  • @andy5178
    @andy5178 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    It’s pretty common here in Europe too. Not as extensively and generally limited to pharmacies though: gifts are a way to convince them to suggest that specific company’s product instead of a competitor’s. Not really a healthy practice, but it’s thankfully heavily mitigated by a legal obligation to inform clients about equivalent drugs by lesser known brands, which are chemically identical but cheaper.

    Damn the puns, and triple-entendres. Curiously though, I'd have thought the Viagra hardware would have gotten rid of any software. Also, Hard Drivin' for the DOS might have a been a game to try. Though, even that had worked, I'd wager the steering would have been stiff.
    4D mouse would actually be useful for scrolling through PDF files. I often read service manual, which have minute text and pictures on them, so a +100% zoom is constant, as is scrolling in the, 4th dimension, which we all know, is horizontal. Would the programmable button have been useful for rudimental macro key inputs? Or could the extra scroll wheel be used for, say, gear shift in racing games?

    The drifting on the "4D mouse" is probably due to the roller only being on one side, and when the mouse is moved too fast the mouse ball is bumped against the opposite side of the cradle and not making contact with the roller anymore. The tactile clack of the keys on the keyboard and the weight of the classic ball mouse are both fantastic, I don't understand why hardware sometimes gets worse when people think it's better. Genuinely my only complaint is that the looseness of the ball makes lifting the mouse to reposition it without moving the cursor can cause the cursor to move when you don't want it to, but otherwise, it's sick. I gotta find a CRT monitor now.

    Fun fact about that NASCAR car you were talking about: in 2002 it came 2nd in the championship with Mark Martin, after a five-way battle for the championship went straight into the dumpster in the final stretch of races. It was Mark's 4th runner-up championship finish in his 15th try. Tony Stewart would eventually win the championship in 2002.

    10:46 The package contents for the 4D mouse are on the side of the box, that 3.5mm cable is not supposed to come with it. Also the cable isn't inside the compartment with the transmitter, it is sitting on the side wedged in by the mouse where anyone could just steal it from the front of the box. I pretty sure someone else stuck that 3.5mm cable in there and that it didn't actually come like that from the factory.

Like the "best wireless with longest lasting battery" the "cool optical" or the "advanced wireless keyboard" So yeah it looks like that is just an advertisement. Why they couldn't just make it one mouse. Like a wireless optical with the option for the 4d wheel. weird.

    Around 1998-2000, I thought that soon all mice will have two scroll wheels. It was just SO useful when making stuff in CorelDRAW! The wheel was saving a lot of time when creating details in images, especially when drawing precise Bezier curves - you could draw at high amplification, and easily scroll the screen for the next part of the curve.
    I had several 2-scroll A4Tech mouses over the years; only moved on after I stopped creating graphics.

    So, let me get this Viagra mouse thing straight:
    • The part that was supposed to be long was short.
    • The front end goes up when you use it.
    • Using it is really *hard.*
    • As in, you had almost no control over it.
    • It had way too much lube applied.
    • It's black and larger than your average mouse.
    • If you're not careful, it could cause pain.
    • LGR was done after using it for only a few minutes.
    • After LGR used it, the ball was dry.

  • @Gary_Hun
    @Gary_Hun 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    12:00 - I've been learning under input devices back in school that a ball mouse is an optical mouse, on the basis that the wheels inside count rotation through light sensors. Then non-ball mice came, called... optical mouse. It was brilliant.

    A4 Tech, thats a name I haven't heard in a long time. I recall in the 90's they used to be really common here in Australia, but over time Microsoft and Logitech, and others became more popular. Good to see they're still around. Regarding the Viagra mouse - regarding your comments on drug advertising on TV - we never see that here as its completely illegal, but having started a new career in the TV industry last year, I occasionally watch live broadcasts from the US (usually live sport), and get to see the raw feed from the US before its overlaid with the local Australian ads, graphics, etc. Seeing your drug ads was a bit of a shock at first, and nearly 12 months on I still giggle every time I see them, because its just something you never see here.
