Hey, it's ok to say it. Your new BLACK audience. hahaha It's all good. You're watching our films, and you're giving them the chance most youtubers don't. I'm serious, most youtubers who are not black won't watch the movies you are watching. And it's a shame. So thank you for watching these amazing films(not the Tyler Perry ones) and giving good insight to them. Most people think all of the black films are just low budget with no real purpose. Not knowing we actually have different genres: Hood dramas, hood comendies, biopics, struggle movies (slavery, etc.) And movies like this... the good ones that people should be doing more of. This, The Best Man, The Wood, and a few othrs were just a taste of what we could do in Hollywood given the chance, and I'm glad dudes like you are seeing their worth. Keep it up.
Hahahaha. I kept it open because I have also seen some folks show up who are of other backgrounds. My working assumption is we’re enjoying these movies, so presumably there’s more people like us who might turn up just for these reactions. But you’re right as far as the majority. 😊
Thank you for saying not the Tyler Perry ones! 😂 We all love Why Did I Get Married I & II, but some of us are not huge fans of the others. Either way, grateful for this channel and our favorite duo. Looking forward to watching all the classics to come. ❤
Agreed. I appreciate your channel and the channel Bad Medicine for watching, reacting and giving thoughtful insight whether you like it or not. That's all we ask. I appreciate other cultures who watch the things I grew up with just like I watch other cultures films. Certain channels who I won't name go into this experience with a notion of it being a step and fetch it caricature of black lives so they mock it while watching it. Or they bring their "token" black friend to watch it so they can feel comfortable with joking through it because they heard critics who bash some things and they feel justified in their mockery of what they're reacting to. Hell, some channels won't even watch a trailer reaction for black films unless it's a marvel , DC or Denzel one Just saying thank you for these reactions.
Fun fact: That scar is actually a real scar on Sanaa’s (Monica) face. They wanted to incorporate that into the movie due to a lot of close up shots, so they added the scene when she was younger. Also Monica, her older sister, and Quincy’s side chick were ALL in The Best Man
GUYS.... You totally missed the fact that the guy she walks into the party with, was the "Bus Driver" in Madea's Family Reunion. His name is Boris Kodjoe. 😀
Fun fact:: Sanaa Lathan had to learn basketball for this role. The director, Gina Prince-Bythewood almost didn't cast her. Another great movie with Sanaa is "Something New" - you all would love it.
Sanaa Lathan's facial scar is real. It's not a prosthetic or makeup. She had it before filming, and they decided to included it into the movie with a story of how her character got the scar.
One thing I wish people would talk about more is that this was Gina Prince-Bythewood’s first time writing and directing a feature film. I mean … 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Great comment! And speaking of Gina Prince-Bythewood, she directed The Woman King----if they haven't watched and reviewed that, it would be great to add to the list!

Fun fact: This is the second time Alfre Woodard played the mom of Sanaa Lathan's character. (Remember "The Family That Preys"? 😀) Check out the movie "Something New" for a third time she did it!
I've watched this movie a billion times lol to just realize that at the beginning when he said that he was going to go pro and she would be his cheerleader, she ended up going pro and he (and their kid) became her cheerleader. Also "he's....stable" took me out 😂
Thank you so much for reacting to this! So glad you enjoyed it. It was an absolute staple of my childhood and is still a comfort movie for sure. It's crazy to look back and realize how many incredible actors are in this one movie. We were so spoiled. 😆
We’re embracing because you guys literally react to everything in the sense of you’re able to appreciate film for what it is which is the telling of visual stories. Thank you.
To really drive home this movie’s impact, Sanaa Lathan went to a WNBA game last season and when they showed her on the Jumbotron, everyone went crazy, it was like she was the Queen. It’s because a lot of girls cite this movie as why they wanted to be a hooper and a lot of the girls in the league grew up and remember this as their first motivation
What I enjoy about your reactions are that they have an element of thought and care in the story. I like you two together. I still find Love and Basketball to be a very toxic love story. B/c wtf! She had curfew! And then they made her apologize for it years later??? NO! He should have walked with her to her damn room if he wanted to keep talking.
As somebody who dated a college athlete he made my scalp itch with that bs because when it was him she respected it and took it on the chin. It’s like I get you just found out that info about your dad but it’s not all about you sir and, she worked her ass off to get a spot and he wanted her to just ignore curfew?
Yes!! It always irked my spirit that he was so non understanding. He knows he wouldn’t have missed curfew for her if the tables were turned, and she wouldn’t have asked him too. I hate that women always are expected to give you their dreams “for love”
I agree with you overall, but at the same time I can see his perspective. From a logical standpoint, she was right, but from an emotional standpoint, the guy had just had something very painful happen and he just wanted someone to be there for him. I think men are more emotional and women are more logical and so men tend to get more hurt by stuff like that in my opinion and then they act like idiots over it.

My actuall favourite movie though is "Brown sugar". i watch it atleast 4 times a year. it also has Sanaa in it and Taye Diggs ( they already played a couple in the best man) . ❤❤
There’s been so much talk online dissecting this movie in recent years about it being toxic relationship and such but it will always be a favorite for me. I’ve seen it probably easily 50+. So much good acting and great writing. One line in particular that is just a random but gives me chills everytime..”No shot! Offensive foul!”
Sanaa is an underrated actress! She's so good, Regina as well. The while cast did a great job. Thank you, guys, for reacting to these iconic black movies. Looking forward to more. I recommend Antwone Fisher (it stars Denzel Washington and Derek Luke)
The fun part of the movie is it came out a few years after the debut of the WNBA so we know as an audience that there will eventually be a women’s league but Monica is navigating her career without that option. Which is why she insists she will play in the NBA
Fun fact the scar on her face was originally supposed to be a tooth but Sanaa already had that scar on her face so Gina changed it in the script. And in the OG script Monica was the one getting married and Q broke it up but Gina felt something was missing her husband brought out Monica had been fighting all movie so she changed the ending to where Monica fights in the basketball game. Also the WNBA did exist when Gina wrote the script.
Yes! She is actually using the real WNBA Sparks team with Lisa Leslie in the movie. I thought that was awesome at the time because the league was new. 😂

Y'ALL ARE KILLING IT!! Black Holiday Films suggestions: The Last Holiday (2006) Soul Food (1997), This Christmas (2007), The Best Man Holiday (2013) Other suggestions: The Great Debators (2008), Whats Love Gotta Do With It (1995), The Wood and The Five Heartbeats (1991)
I so love ya’ll commentary. It’s like I’m watching a movie with my friends. I’m still laughing at your last reaction to Tyler Perry a Big Happy Family. There was a comment about a beautiful dress. It was clear he was not looking at the dress That took me out 😂😂😂
I’m surprised you guys didn’t notice by now that Regina Hall, Monica Calhoun, and Sanaa were all in this movie together along with the Best Man movies and Alfre Woodard has played Sanaa’s mom in a few movies, including The Family that Preys and Something New. Also, Sanaa and Boris Kodjoe have been in this movie together and also Brown Sugar.
@: They really didn’t though. They did mentioned how great each of the actors were and where they recognized them from, but they didn’t make any clear connections between them all being in movies I listed together.
@@Too.Cool.ForCardi Do they need to verbally announce it to make the connection? They went into the movie recognizing Sanaa, they said Regina was from best man when they saw her and they said "oh shes in this movie too" when they saw Monica. That's enough context clues to show that they realized it whether they verbalized it or not 🤷🏿♀️
@@tayshardae: Sorry, but I disagree, and I stand by what I said. Yes, they recognized who these actresses are and their movies individually, but it didn't seem to me that they recognized that they had all been in many of the same movies TOGETHER and things like Alfre having played Sanaa's mother in other movies for instance, which is more nuanced and different than simply recognizing them individually.
Yesss thank you for giving a sister like Regina Hall her flowers. She’s amazing. She always been underrated when she has such good range. She will always be Brenda to me though. I watched scary movie at 8 years old (my parents were way too lax lol) so many times that I can’t watch movies like scream without thinking about it 😂
That's so true to black households though. I'm glad it's in there. and Omg you're TheKittsPajamas! recommending the great videos to the Top 5 guys. You're like famous lol.
FUN FACT: the lady spotting Monica was my elementary gym teacher and she actually wear her Love basketball chain when she would come do PE for us. I went to Broadacres elementary school.
I am obsessed with Jaby and Michael with the Black classic films! Here's some recommendations: The Last Holiday, Friday After Next (and Friday and Next Friday in case those haven't been covered), and The Best Man Holiday for the holiday season. The Five Heartbeats, The Temptations, Soul Food, Juice, Harlem Nights, I'm Gon Get You Sucka, B.A.P.S, Waiting to Exhale, What's Love Got to Do With It, House Party, Class Act, Barbershop, Beauty Shop, and Four Brothers.
One of my favourite films. The director is Gina Prince-Bythewood (The Old Guard, The Woman King, Beyond the Lights, The Secret Life of Bees) - underrated director. Lots of talent in front of the camera too (from smaller roles like Gabrielle Union - his date, to Alfre Woodard as Sanaa Lathan's mom). Classic.
Love that you guys are exploring black film cannon! Soul Food would also be great for the holidays. Also, I want to mention "Crooklyn" cause Alfie Woodard is so great in that, too.
Watching you guys react to this made me actually realize how well this movie was shot. Y’all are my favorite duo. Also her name is pronounced (Sa-nah Lay-than)
This movie is what inspired me to play basketball as a little girl. Me and my Dad's favorite player was Magic Johnson and I wore the number 32 all the way through the end of my college career. So happy you guys enjoyed my all time favorite movie.
This is my favorite movie of ALL TIME 🙌🏾 to see you guys watch and be into a black classic was top tier….especially @54:25 so into it 😂👏🏾❤️ love it. 1:04:28 (Suh-nye Lay-thin) Sanaa Lathan
I love this movie and I'm so happy you guys loved it too, I remember bawling my eyes out on my way home from the theater after watching this movie because it was so good on so many levels and hearing Jaby's appreciation for the technical aspects off the film was greatly appreciated❤
1. Harlem Nights -Eddie Murphy 2. Bait-Jamie Foxx 3. American Gangster Denzel Washington 4. Four Brothers- Mark walberg 5. Ransom- Mel Gibson 6. Kiss the Girls- Morgan Freeman 7. Money Talks- Chris Tucker 8. Fallen-Denzel Washington 9. nothing to Lose -Martin Lawrence 10.The Wood -Taye Diggs ,Omar Epps ,Sanaa Lathan
Sanaa Lathan said she didn't know anything about basketball or played until she auditioned for this movie. Basically she had to learn how to play basketball in order to do this movie
That's crazy. It's wild how often something like that comes up. I think Carrie Anne Moss had to learn to ride motorcycles for The Matrix, particularly The Matrix Reloaded. Same with Michelle Yeoh for Police Story III: Supercop. Although this (Love & Basketball) is a bigger deal as it's so central to the film.
@misstexas651 The director Gina Prince-Bythewood basically wanted to do what Spike Lee did with "He Got Game". Lee originally wanted Kobe Bryant for the part but he declined and the role went to Ray Allen instead.
I’ve always silently watched this channel. Because I love the vibes of the reactions BUT it’s been great seeing y’all get into movies that were classics for me growing up !!!
1:04:27 Her name is pronounced "suh-NAH LAYTH-en". Watching your movie reactions is really making me appreciate how amazing of an actress Sanaa is. I didn't recognize her range before. She really is a treasure.
Thanks. I love that they love Sanaa, but when they pronounced her name, it was like nails on a chalk board. I came to the comments in part to spell her names phonetically, but you beat me to it! I hope they continue watching her filmography. 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
Love that you are going through all our classics and movies we grew up on. It's so interesting seeing people who are new to the genre watching it, and getting to watch them all over again with you guys. Love seeing Black cinema reaching more people. Also her name is pronounced “Sa-nah Lay-thin”.
A truly beautiful film. For real. I love that you guys got to experience what alot of us grew up with. Oh and Shout outs to Sanaa Lathan and Omar Epps. Amazing actors that deserve more credit.
If you guys like young Omar Epps, you’ve got to watch Juice. He did that movie prior to The Program and Major League II. You’ll also come away impressed by how great Tupac is as an actor
Another classic. Sanaa is go good in this movie and the relationship with the mom is so good. Gina Prince-Bythewood is a very talented director. Basketball is really a background vehicle to take us through these people’s life. It’s so interesting to see how female basketball has progressed because female players often had to go over seas to get noticed and paid fairly.
This is becoming one of my fave reaction channels . Also , you guys need to have a playlist on here with just you guys collabs . That’s the only reason I’m watching this channel is you two
Please do Brown Sugar next Edit: you guys are like cookies and milk, peanut butter and jelly, mustard and ketchup. You guys are a great reactor couple. Plus yall didn’t recognize Tyra?!??!!?
Fun fact they put the Young Monica (Kyla Pratt) in the scene where she got pushed and end up with a cut in the movie so they could explain why Sanaa Latham (Monica) had a scar on her face. She always had that scar in real life.

“What’s love got to do with it”, “Boomarang” “Waiting to exhale “, and “Something New”
Yesss what a list !! Must watch!!
Boomerang!!! One of my favessss
Y'ALL ARE KILLING IT!! Black Holiday Films suggestions: The Last Holiday (2006) Soul Food (1997), This Christmas (2007), The Best Man Holiday (2013)
Other suggestions: The Great Debators (2008), Whats Love Gotta Do With It (1995), The Wood and The Five Heartbeats (1991)
The Last Holiday! 🎉🎉
They actually did notice and mentioned it in the reaction
@: They really didn’t though. They did mentioned how great each of the actors were
and where they recognized them from, but they didn’t make any clear connections between them all being in movies I listed together.
Yes, they recognized who these actresses are and their movies individually, but it didn't seem to me that they recognized that they had all been in many of the same movies TOGETHER and things like Alfre having played Sanaa's mother in other movies for instance, which is more nuanced and different than simply recognizing them individually.
you can continue to feel that way. common sense isn't that common 🤷🏿♀️
I love that you guys are reacting to these classics. The wood is a must watch too
I love this channel and all the folk…but you 2 seriously are my favorite! I love when y’all do these movies together!
should defiantly watch This Christmas for the holidays great cast as well
Yess! Their chemistry was so good they actually were a couple during this time i dont think many on set knew that tho
Yesss thank you for giving a sister like Regina Hall her flowers. She’s amazing. She always been underrated when she has such good range. She will always be Brenda to me though. I watched scary movie at 8 years old (my parents were way too lax lol) so many times that I can’t watch movies like scream without thinking about it 😂
@@Heychampion Not mom and dad catching a stray... 🤣
“You would be pretty if you did something with your hair” is absolutely wild to say to your daughter.
That's so true to black households though. I'm glad it's in there. and Omg you're TheKittsPajamas! recommending the great videos to the Top 5 guys. You're like famous lol.
@@digthewarmth 😂 Hey family! ♥️😘
I love yalls channel ngl it's so comforting like watching a movie with friends ❤😂 keep them coming
I love when you guys do reviews on classics like these --- Im kicking my feet, giggling. Love you guys. Specifically this duo.
Thank you guys for watching these black classics, it's kinda rare to see from the big reaction channels
9:37 “is this church?” 😂 No that is the magnificent MC Lyte. I love this duo so much please keep them coming!
😂
😂 I died when he said that
@@Monicahappened The way I hollered! AS I PROCEEDED TO BOP MY HEAD TO THE BEAT! 🤣🎵

Also her name is pronounced
(Sa-nah Lay-than)
This movie is what inspired me to play basketball as a little girl. Me and my Dad's favorite player was Magic Johnson and I wore the number 32 all the way through the end of my college career. So happy you guys enjoyed my all time favorite movie.
Something New. It also has Sanaa Lathan
Yes... I love that movie !!! 😀
Love this one too 😊
I love this move!! 😍
1. Harlem Nights -Eddie Murphy
2. Bait-Jamie Foxx
3. American Gangster Denzel Washington
4. Four Brothers- Mark walberg
5. Ransom- Mel Gibson
6. Kiss the Girls- Morgan Freeman
7. Money Talks- Chris Tucker

Fantastic list recommendation!! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
“He seems…stable.” 😂
What did he mean by that
@@roselynholloway7863I’m assuming he’s saying the ex husband was rich and the new husband is stable financially but not rich

@@roselynholloway7863 I think they meant unattractive as well as not flashy. So he won't be having groupies like her ex husband.

My two favs on this channel! And PLEASE watch
-Love Jones
-Crooklyn
-Roll Bounce
-Eves Bayou
- Brown Sugar
Love y'all two!!
Im nervous about Loves Jones ‘chile. That’s my ish and I’m sensitive bout that one!😂
Forgot about Crooklyn. Great suggestion!
😅😅😅 @@atarainreallife
Now THESE are good recommendations!!!
The director said she originally wanted a real female ball player for the role but none of them could act😂😂
@misstexas651 The director Gina Prince-Bythewood basically wanted to do what Spike Lee did with "He Got Game". Lee originally wanted Kobe Bryant for the part but he declined and the role went to Ray Allen instead.
Just Wright next! With queen latifah and common
I LOVEEEE Just Wright.
Love that movie
Yessss
Absolutely
Yes! I love just wright
Love Jones
Waiting to exhale
The five heartbeats
What’s love got to do with it will blow their minds. Fun to see black films get shine through the eyes of people that didn’t grow up watching them.
YALL BEEN ON YALL BLACK CINEMAAAAA !!! I love it I HOPE YALL TRULY ENJOY THE GEMS
1:06:28 Sanaa wasn't in Why Did I Get Married lol. She was in The Family that Preys and the Best Man though
LOL YUP, I think they meant Family that Preys and got confused because they first saw Lathan in the Tyler Perry-verse
"Something New" with Sanaa Lathan is one you'll love
I’ve always silently watched this channel. Because I love the vibes of the reactions BUT it’s been great seeing y’all get into movies that were classics for me growing up !!!
Aww that thank you in the intro was so real ❤ thank yall again for exploring these films
Dennis Haysbert is such a good actor that I forgot him and Omar Epps were TEAMMATES in Major League II
the best duo ❤️
- Jason’s Lyric
- The Help
- Good Deeds
- For colored girls
- Tyler Perry’s Temptation
thanks 🥰
THE HELP!!! I love that movie.
I have The Help on dvd, just haven't watched it yet.I've had it for years. LOL.
I keep telling y’all that for colored girl is a horror movie 😂😂 let leave it for next year lol
@@cm88__nyi love it too i watch it over and over again

1:04:27 Her name is pronounced "suh-NAH LAYTH-en". Watching your movie reactions is really making me appreciate how amazing of an actress Sanaa is. I didn't recognize her range before. She really is a treasure.
Lol thank you for this😭
One of my fav movies. Fun fact Omar Epps & Sanaa Lathan dated in real life. Both great actors 👏🏾 👏🏾Great reaction as usual.
They dated during the filming of this movie
For the list: Remember the Titans & The Great Debaters
Yes they need to watch those movies . I love Remember the Titans!
Yes, “Remember the Titans”!
Ooo good choices!
Y'all know Sanaa Lathan was Blade's mom right? She was also the lead in Alien VS Predator.
She was also in Disappearing Acts. So she was Wesley' mom and his girlfriend! The gag is she's possibly old enough to be his daughter 😭
You guys are so great to rewatch these great movies with. ❤
For the holidays Almost Christmas is a good comedy movie.
Me dying at the fact neither one recognised miss flight attendant is pre op Tyra Banks 😂😂😂😂
we did. we just didn't say her name out loud. that was the reason for my reaction.
@ Ah fair.
If you guys like young Omar Epps, you’ve got to watch Juice. He did that movie prior to The Program and Major League II. You’ll also come away impressed by how great Tupac is as an actor
📠 Omar Epps's role in higher learning was originally written for Tupac. He would have killed that
Another classic.
Best man holiday and soul food would be great!!!!! You all do amazing reactions ❤
This is becoming one of my fave reaction channels . Also , you guys need to have a playlist on here with just you guys collabs . That’s the only reason I’m watching this channel is you two
Jaby will cry seeing Alfre Woodward (her mom) in holiday heart! I also commend Brown Sugar
Sanaa's name is pronounced more like suh-nye lay-than. Her dad is Stan Lathan, a long celebrated director/producer. She grew up in the industry.
It’s not pronounced like Suh-nye. It’s pronounced like Suh-nah
@@gigiravenRight!
Manifesting Last Holiday - Queen Latifa
It’s literally one of my favourite movies and it’s perfect for the holidays
Fun fact: Alfre Woodard played Sanaa’s mother in 3 movies. Two of which you’ve covered. Might as well recap the third. It’s called something new.
Please do Brown Sugar next
Edit: you guys are like cookies and milk, peanut butter and jelly, mustard and ketchup. You guys are a great reactor couple. Plus yall didn’t recognize Tyra?!??!!?
They sure didn't recognize Tyra Banks! Wild!😮
The fact that you guys are taking the time and effort to reacting to these movies truly speaks levels.. Hands down the best reaction channel.
Fun fact they put the Young Monica (Kyla Pratt) in the scene where she got pushed and end up with a cut in the movie so they could explain why Sanaa Latham (Monica) had a scar on her face. She always had that scar in real life.
Sanaa got that scar from hot play-doh when she was little. I read that somewhere.
❄️Once it hits December you gotta do ❄️:
This Christmas, Almost Christmas, and Last Holiday!!
You'll recognize most of these actors from your recent reactions too
