    Well done. I don’t think the DR1 was designed for windy conditions, but you got it back in one piece. The ailerons would feel anemic in that situation, with so much wing area for the wind to grab. Definitely a fair weather plane.

    Great 2nd maiden flight, Cliff. Check if your receiver or servos are faulty. Those Fokker DR1'S were always tail heavy and tricky to fly. Even my previous Guillows Fokker DR1 I built back in the year 2000 didn't fly well with rubber band power. So I just hung it up from the ceiling because it would fly straight up and drop out of flight and fall to the ground. As usual, my mother broke it! She breaks all my models even when I didn't live at her house!

I wish I could take a picture of my collection for you to see, but TH-cam doesn't have that option as like FaceBook does. I am 56 years old turning 57 this year. I've been sick, but better. I've had 3 major surgeries in the past 1 1/2 years for Adominal reconstructive surgeries from botched surgeries from the year 2009. Plus I suffer from Charcott Marrie Tooth Disease(C.M.T.). It is a slowly progressive degenerative nerve disease with no cure as like Muscular Distraphy. I am just tired all the time and in pain 24/7 with pins and needles sensations and lack of strength. Surprising that it wants to turn right, but not so much left. It may have a little too much right thrust if there are no warps in wings. Model may be easier to fly with rudder/aileron mix, with a fair amount of rudder throw. Remember that you can over-ride amount of rudder throw with rudder stick when/if you need more throw. A little more nose weight may help but model will have a tendency to go nose up with high throttle settings, needing down trim or hold down elevator for "high speed passes". Flight looked pretty good overall, congratulations!!

    • @CliffHarveyRCPlanes
      @CliffHarveyRCPlanes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think I added to much right thrust Gary, easily fixed though. I have mix on the rudder and aileron but I'll increase it a bit. I love the image of high speed passes, thanks for painting that, cheers.

    Beautiful take off Cliff. Landing was good considering the wind...which also makes it hard to tell in flight if what you're feeling is the plane or wind. With my old DR1 the ailerons were good for rolls but thats about it...lol. Definitely a rudder plane. Congratulations Cliff...I know you'll get her dialed in.

    I sort of expected low ailerons performance, bi- and triplanes where mostly flown with rudder and elevator while the ailerons helped to coordinate the turns. Plus Koala is right, the wind loves to grab those triple wings' surface and the ailerons can't profit from the prop's thrust like the empennage.
    Now on to the fine tuning. You'll do a marvelous job, I'm sure. Cheers!

    When a dr-1 is a bit top heavy it will turn on it's own like that. Nose weight will help allot. I have heard experienced dr-1 rc pilots say you almost allways need to add nose weight.
    With the real deal Dr-1 they did not have the top heavy issues and did not so much need nose weight added to the lower or underside of the cowl area, preferably inside the planes nose😳👌😍. Because the real thing had the heavy steel motor up front of the tiny light weight fighter.
    Great to see your flight went really quite well with her. Fairly standard landing for a dr-1 especially with the wind up a bit. Cheers Cliff.

    Fantastic maiden, have found on Biplanes all ailerons do is tilt the plane left or right and the rudder is where all the turning happens. In those kind of winds your fighting all the drag of the wings and wing supports. Looks great in the air, Well done Cliff, Jeff in LA USA

      I have a Tiger Moth (ailerons on the bottom wing) and it turns beautifully on the ailerons only. I wonder if it's the ailerons being on the top wing that reduces their effect 🤔 just a thought. Or possibly the size of the ailerons on the Dr1 relative to the combined wing area of the 3 wings 🤔

    Cliff. I fly a 3/4 scale airdrome aero
    planes kits and I’ve built and flown many rc triplanes over the years including a 33% scratch build that you can find on my channel. Ailerons are only induced drag devices. Pretty ineffective overall at least initially at the onset of the roll It’s a rudder elevator airplane. Turns should be nose up a few degrees above the horizon and kick rudder and coordinate with ailerons. Easier to do in the cockpit because I can feel the wind and the skid in my butt. And shoot for wheel landings. Hold off the tail until it wants to settle then stick the tail down. You will be less likely to end up on your nose. And carry some power until the wheels touch. In essence you are flying it onto the runway. I rarely three point my triplane because you loose airflow over the rudder and elevator. Hope that helps. • @CliffHarveyRCPlanes
      @CliffHarveyRCPlanes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      HI Dan, I've increased the prop size by 2in over the factory prop, I'm getting close to max amp draw, a bigger prop again and I'll have to decrease the throttle curve, this was the reason I increased the right thrust just in case of the extra torque. I think a good landing with this model is going to be the exception but hopefully I'll be filming when it happens, cheers.
