Thanks John! I don't even use AE and have learned a great deal from this tutorial!!

Flo, I follow the steps and all work withing mocha but when I create the cam and solids the solids do not track as inside mocha. Any idea why? Cheers

Do your frame ranges match? If you trimmed the clip, you may need to precomp it, so that AE knows which frame to correctly start with.
If you're still having problems, please let us know some more details about the project on our forums : forum.borisfx.com/

convert video to sequence and don't worry about frame rate.
      maybe this will help.

this shot has lens distortion, can the new matchmove get that data?

    • @BorisFXco

You can run it through the Mocha Lens module and take out the distortion, adding it back in to the comped elements at the end using Render > Lens : Distort.

I'm still torn on this change.
While incorporating Syntheyes tracking into Mocha is a good thing, it seems you've dropped Planar tracking - and I've used Mocha long enough to remember all the old videos about how planar tracking can solve things a point tracker can't...
So I'd say keep the point tracking but put back the planar tracking as well. It's not like the planar tracking code isn't extant. Plug it back in and give it its own interface tab. Given legacy projects can be opened the planar track code may even still be in Mocha, just hidden by lack of UI access.

Planar tracking hasn't gone anywhere, it's a fundamental part of Mocha. I used it to rotoscope the leaf and radish in this very tutorial! 3D Camera Solve is an enhancement to the toolset, not a replacement.

@@Motionworks I'm glad to read that, because the initial videos detailing the syntheyes addition sure made it sound like planar tracking had been removed!

Don't worry, Mocha is still the industry's leading planar tracking, we've just expanded Mocha Pro out. Now we have sub-planar tracking with PowerMesh and 3D scene solving in addition to all the core tools. One of the things that makes the Camera Solve so useful is the ability to mix Mocha tools and SynthEyes technology together.

no 3d powermesh deformation is really a bummer. that feature need to be implemented quickly.

    • @BorisFXco
      @BorisFXco  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

You can solve for static scenes with PowerMesh, and take that out as FBX and USD data. When After Effects supports those 3D formats, you'll be able to bring them in.
In the future, how else would you like to see PowerMesh data shown and what you like to do with it in After Effects?

@@BorisFXcoas of Now the native straightforward support is limited to cam tracks with a required solve. While mocha now have the SynthEyes tracking capabilities, why not let us have object tracks with still cameras or both. The photogrammetry progress is more or less the same I guess. When I import to SynthEyes and there isn’t assigned a clip to it, which barely works as of now, the trackers from the powermesh appears to be moving(in reality it’s the camera moving) I can assign these trackers to an object, and use them as drivers for an object. Unfortunately this process is unbearable slow and filled with issues. Every time I add footage to the file, the timeline freezes or the trackers looses their path. As of now this new 3d feature is too limited. It’s a shame since you already have a custom script exporter from the live demo that would solve most of this, but it doesn’t seem like support is willing to send me the script:(

We're working on it. Regarding the custom export script that was shown in the livestream, there is a good reason that Support won't send it to you; it's not fit for production use. Seriously unfit. It was a quick proof of concept while we were building out exporters. Ben got overexcited in showing that.
I want you to know that your comments have been heard by the dev team, and we're looking closely at how to get done what you need to get done.

@@BorisFXco Ohh okay, my bad. I had just bought the software and was also way too excited to use that feature. It's completely understandable, that you don't want to share a script that doesn't work properly:) Luckily a user from a tracking forum, shared a way through something called Tracksperanto that allows me to convert power meshes to 2d point tracks in SynthEyes. Now it is truly incredible having the tracking from Mocha exported to Syntheyes. It resolves my annoyances I have been having with SynthEyes' tracking instability on deforming surfaces:)
Thanks for the answer, and apologies for asking the same question several times.

I'm just glad that Tracksperanto was able to fill the gap. There should be a wider set of tools coming in the next version.
