I spent a night in jail in Boston in 1998 and the officers not only let me smoke but gave me their own cigarettes, but only if I could do more push ups than one of the cops. So yes, you could smoke in there. Good times.
Nia when Robin Williams passed away the bench in Boston Public Garden became a huge memorial and even today it's a popular place for pictures. What I find most amazing is that Matt and Ben could write such a beautiful and layered script at such a young age. This movie started as a writing assignment for Matt Damon while he was attending Harvard. They both totally deserved their Oscars for Best Original Screenplay
I've been there a few times (Australian) and it was a bench. A beautiful bench, on a simple artificial duck lake. I don't imagine it will stay that way. It's iconic now.
10:17 this monologue about his wife farting is 100% improvised by Williams and Damen's reaction is genuine, no acting. Obviously this goes without saying, but Robin Williams was a legend. This movie is a perfect example of his dramatic and comedic acting prowess.
Considering how beloved he is as this madcap improv comedian, he’s also staggeringly good as an actor in such subtle, warm roles. In this, and in Awakenings, he is just incredible.
When Ben's character talks about knocking on Will's door and hoping that he won't be there - it's like him almost giving permission for Will to get out of here and live his potential. Saying that he won't be angry that he left or hold it against him. Almost making it as easy as he can for him by saying you don't even have to say goodbye. Just do it.
I saw this movie when it was first released and countless times since. When I first saw it, I was in my mid-twenties and I'm now in my early-fifties; this movie continues to deliver. It's a masterpiece. Sidenote: Affleck and Damon wrote this movie. I just saw "Air" (in theaters now), which they also wrote and starred in. It was also great. I totally recommend it .
15:21 and 15:37 Those are my most favorite and meaningful moments with someone, just doing something that might seem boring, but it's just the two of you and the conversation. It doesn't have to be anywhere flashy or planned, just sharing a silly day together. I'm glad they showed those contextual and spontaneous moments at the start of their relationship and didn't just breeze past them. It's such a timeless and powerful movie, crazy it's been 26 years.
I love the shot of the puddles in the road before he leaves the note at the end. The storm is over . It has been weathered . Now it's time to captain the boat forward
@Nia Maki where did you put your "conclusion" video? I'd really like to watch that also, but I missed it at the end of the reaction, and now can't seem to find it (without going back in to the reaction video).
The final phrase "he stole my line" was improvised. Matt Daemon and some crew were behind the camera at the time and they nearly lost their shit with laughter when he said it!
So happy you have seen this movie now. I feel it's one of these movies that change you a little bit. And often for the better. Thanks again for sharing all of this with us.
The "it's not your fault" scene is one of the great acting scenes of all time, but not many people comment on Will saying "not you, Sean" when he's getting riled up. It's the first real glimpse of how much Sean means to him
You don't have to say a lot of words to have a great reaction. Your endearing expression and warmth spoke volumes. This was one of my favorite reactions to Good Will Hunting. Now I have to subscribe and check out the rest of your reactions. Awesome!
This is one of many movies that I also put off seeing for a long time. For whatever reason (I honestly don't even remember why) I just felt it wouldn't be for me. When I finally got around to watching it, I loved every minute of it, and needed tissues more than once before it was over. It's always wonderful to see reactors watch it for the first time. I feel like this is a movie that speaks to everyone in some way. And it's an amazing showcase of talent for a lot of the actors in it, but especially Robin Williams. That man was amazing!
39:14 VERY good call. I never made that connection before, but you're absolutely right. The attempt to put up a brave front before finally crumbling. The only difference here is that Sean (Robin Williams) did that on purpose. He just drilled down on him until he cracked through all of Will's (Matt Doman) attempts to deflect. That episode of Fresh Prince is a masterpiece though. I wrote a paper on it in college. And Will Smith and James Avery's performances in that final scene are incredible.
Some other excellent movies of Robin are good morning Vietnam, awakenings, Jumanji, Mrs Doubtfire,,the Bird Cage, Dead poets society. The bench is still there, it's now a memorial, and Matt says he goes there on Robin's bday and sometimes takes his kids!
You had me getting emotional, I can tell your genuine & you just being yourself. I appreciate that. I found my favorite reaction movie channel. Keep smiling & shining. 🙏
Loved this movie and loved watching your reaction to seeing it for the first time. Very impressed by your ability to recognize the meaning behind the many impactful scenes as they played out.
Loved your reaction. This one hit home and I think this movie has the one of the best soundtracks w/Elliott Smith and great one-liners as well really hits home if you've gone through some of that shit.
I absolutely loved your reaction to it! I think it says a lot for it and for you that you didn't have much to say while watching it. You have nothing to apologize for. You said it all when you were "not" crying. 😉 P.S. it makes me cry too. And I cry when I see you cry. I'm just a mess! 😄 Thank you for sharing with us. Many hugs.
Nothing wrong with keeping your negative comments to yourself. She’s a reactor and unless this is you very first reaction watch that’s what they do and she does it great.
The biggest detail I can't help but appreciate is all the students that didn't take credit for Matt Damon's work in the beginning weren't just being honest for honesty's sake, they know they'll be made to do problems like that and harder if professors think they have the knowledge to solve those complex equations
This film won an Oscar for adapted screenplay and now you can see why, it can evoke emotions just through words and acting mostly by the late great Robin Williams. Another good but different screenplay that won an Oscar too is "JoJo Rabbit". It's maybe a little funnier but still evoking emotion through writing.
Ronin Williams did a lot of improve with his scenes and the crew loved him. The fart scene was all about Robin doing improve and just making it happen and Matt was really laughing. Amazing!
I appreciate your vulnerability and genuine reaction.I am a 45 year old contractor who also cried at these parts...I think you have to be somewhat yourself or yourself to feel right? It's though who are not themselves who don't feel....often anything right.Appreciate you!
Little did I know I was watching a classic when I picked this to see while stuck in Atlanta for a class since Will is also an alias for William as is Bill.
I think that most everyone recognizes Ben's brother, Casey. But, I have yet to hear anyone express recognition of the fourth of the Four Horsemen, Cole Hauser, AKA. Rip of Yellowstone fame.
The younger guy in their gang is Ben's brother. Hard to believe they wrote this starting as teens and had no idea how to script write! And won Oscars! And amazingly got Robin and Stellen Skarsgard to star in this! The red head guy is a brilliant actor but a bit crazy, his dad was a amazing actor but definitely bat shit insane!
I had wondered for a long time why no one took credit for proving the first theorem. I realized that they would probably want them to prove it again and/or explain it.
When I was younger, I had heard of this movie but never looked into it much and I just assumed it would be a boring movie so years went by and I only watched it about 5 years ago and I was so blown away. One of the best movies. So happy you liked it. Also you are like a ray of sunshine. Dont ever change for anyone. Just be you always :) PS. If I may recommend a movie that maybe you've not seen and could react to. Well a few recommendations: Warrior - 2011 movie with Tom Hardy Apocalypto - movie direct by Mel Gibson House of Sand and Fog
This is great, but there’s another underappreciated Oscar nominee from 1997 you should check out, and it’s not Titanic. As Good As It Gets, starring Jack Nicholson, Helen Hunt, Greg Kinnear, Cuba Gooding and the actress who does the voice of Lisa Simpson. Incredible, funny, sad, thought provoking movie with amazing dialogue.
Seconded. Excellent film. It even managed to make me, a dude in his early 20s when I watched it, connect with Jack's character, even though on the surface we would have almost nothing in common.
you know the funny thing about that last comment is people today don't remember that pos clunkers used to be reliable even if they were pos cars since they were better quality back then... the posibility of the car not making it across the entire country was not an issue anyone thought about when this movie was released.
I loooove that you aren't against Lambo. Most people villainize him. And to be fair, he did have his interests going into the situation, but you can see he really likes Will and wants what's best for him, he just tried doing it by pushing him.

It’s inspiring, {gonna go see about a girl.}) I’m 23 now so I know I don’t know shit, only person I’ve been truly vulnerable with is my parents & that’s bc I trust & know they’ll never tell what I said. It’s hard even with parents, but an orphan or abusive family would make it even harder, everyone has a chance regardless of their circumstances. Very luckily I have great parents. So no I think anybody with a heart cries or thinks deeply about themselves or others they care about or feels the need for therapy watching this movie
Fun Fact: the fart story was made up on shot by Williams, furthermore, you can see the edges of the screen shaking in every cut of the scene from every angle. This is because EVERYONE on set was laughing, including all the cameramen, so none of the footage is steady.

I LOVE how Robin goes from calling him "sport" and ends up calling him "son" at the end.
"It's not your fault." I don't think many people get through that scene without tears.
Unless u have no empathy
I sure as fuck don't. That one hits hard for the abused kids.
This movie is a big therapy session for all of us..

One of my all time favorite movies. Robin Williams delivers his lines with such emotion that it’s almost impossible not to be moved.
Considering how beloved he is as this madcap improv comedian, he’s also staggeringly good as an actor in such subtle, warm roles. In this, and in Awakenings, he is just incredible.
That park bench scene is the scene that absolutely sold me on this film and made it become one of my all time favs

Yes! The music really complemented the story well, made it so much more impactful

Best part of the movie , helped Robin break the ice between him and Will
, laughed my head off watching it !
This movie was so authentic. It found a way to hit everyone in the feels in some way.

I tear up everytime I watch this movie. Great reaction as always.
That military picture at 13:34 was used in the bionic man from the 70's. I might be the only person on the planet that knows that.
There's no thick wooed roads on the way to Logan airport, but there is on the highway heading west ;)
Robin Williams ad libbed “Son of a bitch. He stole my line.” They loved it so much they left it in the film. ❤
"can it make it all the way there or is he just driving to the airport?" LOL!!
9:24 this is Harmony Korine, who wrote Kids and directed such movies as Gummo and Spring Breakers.
