Not really.... People seems to ignore the time before this film came out, like it all started with this one movie for them. They both were already rising stars in Hollywood and they both had top billing starring roles in critically acclaimed films prior to GWH. Affleck with Kevin Smith films and Damon with The Rainmaker. Yes, its considered their breakout roles but it didn't launch their careers. They both were already in the industry since the 80s, nearly a decade before this came out. They were on their way to the top, this film just gave them a speed boost.
Also the original script THEY wrote was not this film. It was nearly 100% different. It was an international mystery spy thriller about a genius working for the government going on the run (aka literally Jason Bourne) getting helped by genius street kids. The script was shopped around and well known professional screenwriters hired to "give them tips" on changing the story. Those writers refused any credit

This was a master class of writing a script and improvising a script.
The original script was written by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, while the story about the wife and the last line "son of a b***h, he stole my line" were improvised by Robin Williams.

    • @GK-yi4xv
      @GK-yi4xv หลายเดือนก่อน +1

The original script by Affleck and Damon was a conventional thriller, where Will has to go on the run to escape 'dark forces' trying to track him down because he knows too much, or some such.
A Hollywood executive had the good judgement to advise them to drop the whole 'thriller' angle and focus on the relationships, as here.
      The rest is Hollywood history.

I can't help wondering how many lines/scenes were improvised, or added to the script, by Robbin Williams.

7:34 "How do you like them apples?" - iconic line from this movie, never fails to put a satisfied smile on your face, especially after Will schooled that prick earlier.
10:26 it starts out very pure, lookin like they're having a lot of fun but as the movie progresses, you start noticing just how much Will eclipses his professor and what a toll it takes on the latter's mind.
15:38 such a cute scene and you can see just how well these two match.
17:42 Robin Williams' monologue is legendary but this particular part here is unbelievably powerful and it shows just how well his character understood Will - "You don't know about real loss, because it only occurs when you love someone more than you love yourself"
21:39 he gave Will the perfect question to think about - whether or not he and Skylar are perfect for each other, with all their imperfections.
25:10 Skylar fits right in with Will and the boys, that joke cracked them up good.
28:22 that was one way to scare the living lights out of Will.
31:00 now we're starting to see just how inferior the professor feels compared to Will.
32:58 this little insight into how Will's thinking, how crushed he feels by any possible outcomes/turns his life can take is terrifying.
36:05 Ben Affleck knocked it out of the park with this dialogue.
39:00 what an emotional scene, finally seeing Will break down, being vulnerable.
42:00 that smile on his face, realizing Will listened and just dissapeared, going to live his life to his potential - really warms your heart.
43:06 and he stole his line!
Thank you for the beautiful commentary and this incredibly emotional reaction ❤

One of the underrated aspects of this movie is the supporting cast. I don't know if you recognized Stellan Skarsgard, the MIT professor in this, but he was Dr. Selvig in the MCU from the Thor and Avengers movies. And you just saw him in the Dune movies as Baron Harkonnen. He's also in the Pirates Of The Caribbean series. Will's friends (you know Ben Affleck), but the skinny one is Ben's little brother Casey Affleck, who went on to become a pretty good actor in his own right. He had an amazing performance in The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. And the red curly haired guy is Cole Hauser, who had a number of really interesting roles in movies like Higher Learning, Pitch Black, Dazed and Confused (which also had Ben Affleck in it), and School Ties (which also had Ben Affleck and Matt Damon in it, it's where they al met).

Thank you, ladies, for the best video I've seen today. What I find most special about this movie is that all the emotions are deep and authentic. Disclaimer: this movie did not use children and pets to make us cry 😁

I was fortunate to have met Robin Williams at work. Such a different reserved personality than the crazy comic in person.
    He will be missed. 🥀

Not knowing anything you may read the movie title "Good Will Hunting" and think maybe they're looking for positive acts. Then when you learn the main character is named Will Hunting that changes the meaning of the title somewhat.

I didn't even notice what Laura's tattoo says until halfway through the reaction. You should watch "Yentl." I think you'd like it... even if you don't react to it. That tattoo is quoted in the movie.

If you want to see a great mini driver movie, I highly recommend return to me, it was directed by Bonnie Hunt, she is also in it. It also has David duchovny, James Belushi, Ray loja and Carroll O'Connor. It is a wonderful romantic comedy and I can't recommend it enough.
Mini driver gives an extraordinary performance in that.
By the way, mini driver is the ex-girlfriend of Matt Damon, he fought for her for this roll because he thought she could nail it.

Here is another movie that is similar to Good Will Hunting. There was funny and serious scenes. There was a group therapy session at the end.of this movie I am about to mention to you as well. The next movie that I would suggest the both of you react to next is the Breakfast Club.

It was a hard movie to watch took my date whejn it came out, I have multiple scars due to abuse as a child, I left very quiet and she knew something was wrong. Revealing the truth was the hardest thing I ever has to do. I love this movie but it is a hard watch.
