Z owner here, I've watched a shitload of your videos and never commented over the years, owning my nismo since about 09. I don't see how your videos don't have 1000 more votes brother. Keep making videos. Always happy too watch your videos too get myself in the correct mindset for doing similar things too my Z.
I really appreciate the time you took to explain all of that as I told you earlier I’m rebuilding a G that was in horrible shape but I’m literally replacing every single component that I can and I’m buying a new motor to throw in when this one goes tits up. Thanks for your content and I will be buying some Murch from you thank you
Great video! One question though. I know you can check the performance of the injectors on each bank of the motor but can you look at how they are operating per injector?
George Sada .....probably the most advanced question yet, great question. Honestly, I do not know but on cipher you can see injector pulse width, maybe that is it?
Would like to use this to run a diagnostic on a timing belt job done by a mechanic, seems like the powerband shifted... guess cam advance would do it? Also guessing around zero at idle is expected? Thanks.
just to make sure this works to do data logs on a stock vehicle as well? correct just so i can check certain sensors as well was told told just buy a obd2 scanner …
Great channel great info! I drive 05g with 72,000 miles haven't had much go wrong it was a second drive car but but now it's my daily and I always look at your content if anything funny goes on with my car? What kind of laptop is that or even yet what minimums do you need to run this program? Such as Windows ???? Thank you great job with your channel and ride
Ah Umm.....Yes you can. The secret to cam sensors is buy them at autozone. Why? Because lifetime warranty so if they ever fail, it cost you nothing to replace. Changing cam sensors is easier than tying your shoes.
Let's put this way, non of your mods really work until they are tuned because the ECU is set for OEM parts and doesn't compensate. Yes, I would recommend a tune from a tuner. A tune was by far the best mod. By exhaust, what do you mean? If you have OEM CATS, then I wouldn't worry about a tune because you aren't going to make any power. CATS fail, P0420 and when they do, they are super expensive.....like $1,300 for 2 of them. That is when most people move to test pipes or ART pipes because they never fail, are a lot cheaper and it get's the potatoes out of the exhaust. It doesn't matter if you have other breather mods, when the air is still slowed down by the CATS; that is the bottleneck.
i love your videos man ive been binge watching them since im picking up a g35 coupe for my birthday. i was wondering if you have any tips for tuning with full bolt ons
Lol......thanks for the binge, on my channel. If you saw my how to make 350HP, that basically cover's it. Congrats on the G, what year is it? Auto or 6MT? When it comes to mods, the very last mod should be the ART pipes or Test pipes, whichever you choose because that will make the car run lean. Lean is too much air, not enough fuel which makes the car run hotter. I would not even consider a tune unless you do this, because this how you really make the most power out of any exhaust system, it frees up the potatoes out of the exhaust system. Google the inside of CATS to see what I"m talking about. My most current set up is below. Then my old set up is below that, both are good for power. If you do not have a rev-up motor, you will not need the MREV2. --------Dynapack----------------GAIN 13whp/10wtq Base Numbers: 270whp/260wtq Tuned Numbers: 283whp/270wtq Performance Mods: - KW v3 Coilovers - Injen CAI - NWP 75mm throttle body - Motordyne MREV2 - Motordyne 5/16th spacer - Motordyne v3 ART pipes - Motordyne Shockwave TDX2 exhaust. -----Mustang Dyno------------------------------------GAIN- 24whp/35wtq Base Numbers: 245whp/211wtq Tuned Numbers: 269whp/246wtq Performance Mods: - Motordyne MREV2, - Motordyne 5/16th spacer - Long tube Injen CAI - Resonated test pipes - Invidia Gemini exhaust. this is a great video!! so can you tune your car through cipher? but not know hp obviously. im starting to learn more about this stuff not sure 100% how it all works but your videos are helpfull keep up up the vids man!
Thank you.......Cipher is just for data logging, so you can't mess up the car or the tune playing with it. It helps you see things in real time and see how the engine is performing. I believe ROM editor is used to actually do the tuning and change parameters, which if I knew how to do that, I would be a professional tuner. I wish, I was able to be a professional tuner, that would be the dream. I didn't know about tuning until I had already started my professional career in sales at HP.
Got cha! I really which i knew how to tune my own car i think its very interesting just dont have the funds to go to school for it or know anyone to teach me lol Never know in the future though.
I concur, I tried to talk to my tuner about what made him start tuning and how he got started. He shared some info, but not enough to motivate me to be his competition. If you think about, they charge $350 an hour basically because that is all the longer a tune takes. That is lawyer money and his shop is always full of people day in, day out. Most kick ass job ever! Paid to hang out with car people all day in mesh shorts. I can't imagine it to be that hard once you learn it and I'm learning more about fuel trims, which are important. I don't even know what school you would attend. It seems like a lot of older, semi retired, race car drivers getting into tuning. People are emotionally with their cars if they are getting it tuned and want to believe the car is in the best hands. There are some paid youtube channel offers out there to teach you, I did see those. Anyway, lot's of bla bla here, but being a tuner would be the dream. It is like the secret job, I didn't even find out about until later in life. The demand is huge and always will be. Anything goes wrong with my car, I can not figure out, I go to my tuner to talk. Not a mechanic.
You just took the words out of my mouth.. Exactly what im saying! Tuners will never want to teach what they know because then they fear for competition you know so its hard. But where i live they want to charge 500$ smh its crazy. I have heard of HP ACADEMY is online and teach you everything. But i have never really looked into it to much.

Thanks for checking my channel out. Ummm.....uprev.com/secure/ .......Uprev pretty much is all you need. Cipher is the only one you would use, not being a professional tuner.
What did you have to buy to do all this besides the cable? did you have to buy a license or anything else? the installer/program seems to be free but im not sure what else i need.
wrxsubaru02 ...all you need is the cable from uprev. Even though my car is dyno tuned, chipher logs still work on OEM G/Z's. Software is free, no license needed to do data logs.
Oh so you cant actually tune it yourself with that program/cable? I am looking to self tune my car but just basic stuff like throttle response and rev limit.
CK_32 ....I used to think just like you and thought the same-thing. Anytime you come off throttle before the RPM gets to idle I believe it is called a close loop or something like that but AFR goes up to 130 every time. Only at idle and when mashing throttle do you not want it above 15 or that is lean.
Any computer will work and the uprev connection is the same interface plug as every OB2 scanner. All you need is to download the software to your computer and use the uprev cable, that is it.
Ivan Mendoza ....No the uprev cable is only $100-$150, you do not need a tune to use cipher. The tuning software you are correct is $300 and yes, it is worth it. Then a tuner charges $350 to do the tune, so about $650 to get your car dyno tuned.
Rom editor is the new Cipher, this video is of the old interface which you can no longer get. Cipher is integrated into the new Rom editor so you found the right spot, which is on the left under software downloads......uprev.com/secure/support
I bought a turbo kit for my Z, it came with this uprev and a base tune. I plugged it in and it idles like shit. Do I need to connect it to the laptop with those programs even tho it has a base tune already installed?
In Cipher, which is nothing more than a data logger, not the actual tuning software, you are able to adjust the idle. Yes, if you want to adjust your idle, you need to connect to a laptop. If you are installing a turbo kit and you are not a professional tuner, I recommend not trying to figure it out and taking it to a tuner. You can for sure blow the motor, if you do not know what you are doing, especially with fuel maps. Great question.
I have a OBD port plug that came with the kit thats supposed to already have a base tune. I just want to set a 2 step and check my AFR/Idle and things like that. But all I can open/see is the rom editor.
FastingForBuilds ....Yes, I have launch control on map 2. The UPREV software is $300. The $550 one includes a cable and a remote tune. You are better off taking it to actual tuner. A tuner charges $300 and the software is $300 so basically the same price as UPREV standard at $550.
I believe you. I had to reinstall windows after a hard drive crash this weekend, I went to install Osiris and the only thing that it installs now is the ROM editor. It used to contain, ROM editor, Cipher and Osiris in the download. I was going to reach out to UPREV today to see what is up. When I open ROM editor, the notes say their is an updated version of cipher being released so maybe that is why it isn't there anymore. I hear you on this and I myself was like where is cipher? The last version I had was from 2013, so it better still be free.
Motordyne G35 Oh ok. Well it's relieving to hear someone else is having the same problem, which also sucks. It better still be free, because it's been pretty frustrating.
Cipher is still free. I called uprev and he told me 2 things. You can do data logs from the ROM editor, which I'm unfamiliar with how to use. The ROM editor is what the tuner uses to do the actual tune. Cipher is no longer available for windows 7, but it is for systems using Windows 8 or later. After my hard drive crashed, I was able to find the correct system image containing my old copy of cipher, which I"m still using on Windows 7. I will play around in the ROM editor to do cipher logs and try to get familiar with it. Are you interested in a video?

No problem, thank you for watching. Kind of a nerd out session, but knowledge is power.
Motordyne G35 I have a 2003 (DE) G35 Coupe, with intake, exhaust, and soon the spacer. Would you still recommend getting the Osiris Uprev to tune?
