"Although this work is today generally known in its published form for bassoon and cello (dating from around 1800), it is considered by most scholars to have originally been intended for two bassoons. This appears more likely than the unusual instrumentation of the published version, duos for two wind instruments being popular in Mozart's day. It was composed early in 1775 during Mozart's visit to Munich, where he and his father Leopold had gone to supervise preparations for Wolfgang's new opera buffa La finta Giardiniera, K. 196. The sonata was probably composed for Baron Thaddäus von Dürnitz, an amateur bassoonist who also commissioned from Mozart the Piano Sonata in D major, K. 284 (K. 205b). In recent years, at least one scholar has cast doubts on the sonata's authenticity. There are three movements: Allegro; Andante; Rondo (Allegro)." (Brian Robbins)

It's so beautiful. I love the cello like no other bowed string instrument. And while I don't have a favorite woodwind, I absolutely love the warm tone of the bassoon. And I find Woodwind instrument + Cello to be just such a beautiful combination. And then combining that with the intrinsic beauty of Mozart, just, I love this sonata on first listening.

I can feel the start of the bassoon concerto with the melody’s overall contour

Not to mention the first measure of the first movements being the same notes and similar rhythms!
