    I’ve got the DWS 06+ on my E36 M3, and I find them to be unbelievably good in the dry for an all-season. No sense of squirminess or tread block rollover, even after running summer tires on the car for years and years. In fact, they seem to have more lateral grip than some of the summer tires I’ve used.
    Overall, they’re just amazing tires. Can’t see myself going back to using dedicated summer tires unless they’re fitted to a set of track day wheels.

    a very well-done review! I installed 235/45ZR-17 DWS06+s on my W210 Benz this summer, and the amount of grip they have (dry and wet) is frankly ridiculous for an all-season tire - just unbelievable. in fact, these tires are so sticky that for the first 50 or 60 miles, it sounded like the car was driving along on 4 giant lint rollers! steering feel, ride compliance, and resistance to hydroplaning are also excellent. after several thousand miles I'm pleased to report that while the sticky-linoleum sound effects have gone away, both the leech-like grip on the asphalt and my undying affection for the DWS06+ remain. it's an outstanding choice if you need all-season performance.

    🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾 Always a pleasure to see these videos pop up. Much better wet course too with the cones.
    If I don't sell this car for a truck, I'll grab the Michelin tires to run in the 2nd half of winter.
    I've been running the Conti since later winter, and put maybe 30k miles on them so far. My tire setup is staggered and the rear tires are still holding up very well. I do drive spirited most days. I don't do hard acceleration or hard braking, rather progressive with both and I sorta break like a chauffeur.
    My cornering technique is similar to Rob Wilson the F1 instructor to conserve tire wear but also going faster around turns/curves.
    I generally run the high psi setting on my W212. 35-36F, 37-41R Cold Tire pressure. Warm tires pressure ends up being 38-39F, 40-43R depending on temp's, speed, time of day, etc.
    I had 2 punctures to the rear passenger tire. 1 nail and 1 razor blade 🤦🏾‍♂️ on different occasions. Both patched and no issues up to triple digits.
    Rain speeds on the Conti is excellent up to around 20k-25k miles, then it drops off to normal All Season speeds. Where I could go 80-90 in heavy rain new, I'm only pushing 65-70. No I don't drive super fast in the rain, just did some test to it's limit.
    Hydroplane resistance is really good on a RWD car that's also staggered which should perform worse in the wet than a square setup on FWD or AWD. These tires are excellent and the best All Season tires I've ever owned. Much better than the prior DWS06 where those were shot at around 15k-20k in the rear. These ones have added at least another 15k-20k miles of durability to the rear tires and I have yet to need an alignment. I predict the front will go beyond 50k miles easy and the rear will need replacing around 45k-50k which is typically 25k-30k.
    245 front
    265 rear

Let's just say I'm eternally grateful for an oddly placed exit lane...

    My main concern for all season isn't snow, it's cold temps in the dry and wet. Specifically 28-50°F. Love these reviews, though cold wet and dry would be more helpful to me. I already have continental extreme contact sport for the warmer dry and wet.

    • @kunalmishra9463
      @kunalmishra9463 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's exactly where the AS compound should do muchhhh better than a summer tire compound. If these things are handling snow as well as we've seen, it's fair to assume they're going to handle situations much warmer than that and with much more friction available just fine too.

    • @kunalmishra9463
      @kunalmishra9463 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'll also add this having purchased the the PS4AS in December and having taken it on a road trip to ski in Big Bear. The conditions were damp, slightly soggy, but overall no falling snow and generally cold (25-40 degrees) and I felt like there was not a better tire (or tire class than the UHP AS segment) that would've been better equipped for those conditions. Little bit of wheel spin on ice (in a fun sorta way, I was sliding around in a parking lot on purpose), and on the driveway, but overall an excellent choice for the conditions I found myself in.

    • @ml9052
      @ml9052 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree - I find it a bit pointless that AS tyres still soften under 7C/45F. Isn't that the same temperature as a summer compound? Would be helpful if AS tyres had a lower temp limit as otherwise they seem a bit pointless that I may as well just go for an All Weather.

    • @kunalmishra9463
      @kunalmishra9463 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@ml9052 I think you've got things a little mixed up here. At 45 degrees, a summer compound will begin to harden and much further below it's basically a hockey puck. The tire can be easily damaged in this weather and has lost tons of grip. An AS compound will still begin to "feel" the cold but won't have anywhere near the same hardening reaction to it. AS compounds should be able to comfortably hit zero degrees and still be safe, even if they lose a little bit of traction along the way. In contrast, summer tires will probably get you crashed or killed at zero -- they are formulated to provide literally sticky grip that resists heat well and at low temps that stickiness goes away

  • @czierwo
    @czierwo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I fitted the a/s4 on my legacy before summer, and it is so sure footed I feel like I'd need beefier stabilizers to take better advantage of tire's capability. Car is glued to the road, turns great and quite frankly, I had not managed to make them squeal around corners yet even if content of the cabin is getting tossed around lol! No usually I don't drive like I stole it, so after the season and few thousands of kilometers there is literally no apparent wear showing. Won't drive them in winter as I have dedicated winters waiting, but after watching this it almost is tempting to push change over until I get to try them in snow lol! Great review!

    All righty, I live in a mostly warm climate with frequent thunderstorms. In the winter, we might get five to seven days of snow and when we do, all hell breaks loose. The car is a Volvo XC70 so more All Season and less UHP tire. I originally ordered the Pirelli but I had nagging doubts. At the appointment I changed my mind, paid the up charge and now going with the Bridgestones. We'll see what's what, thanks for the video.

    Love these reviews. And they are making me think a lot about the characteristics i want in my tyres for winter use. I regularly go to the Alps for a month or more in winter from the UK and stay in high alpine ski resorts while there. So there will be a lot of snow around. However, for me the performance on wet and dry roads is more important than snow, as even in those environments the roads get cleared effectively, and when those roads are covered in snow, you are really not going to be pushing the limits of grip. So decent but not cutting edge snow performance is what is required. That was why i opted for Vredestein Quatrac Pro Plus this year based on your reviews. They appear to be OK on snow based on your tests, and far far better than any summer tyre in that dept, but are also handy in wet and dry tests relative to other similar tyres, and longer wearing. Had them fitted yesterday and will put a review in on your website once i have more experience of them 🙂 FYI, they came with 8mm tread depth as new, measured by the fitter.

    I've been driving on the Continental DWS series since it was first introduced the newest incarnation DWS 06+ I love it, it's quiet, smooth and wears like steel not to mention the grip and no hydroplaning in a downpour. I also feel confident in the snow' it's the best non-snow tire I've ever driven on. Sadly, my newest car (VW Alltrack) requires a load rating of 95 and the DWS 225/45/18 only comes in 91 load index rated tire. I bought the Pirelli P Zero All Season Plus which has a 95 rating and it's better than the continental performance wise but not as good in the All Season aspect I'm happy with it but wish I had the Continentals BTW tire wear on both is very very good.

    For me snow grip is the by far the most important. I know I could use studded tires as many used to do in in my area in the 1970s and 1980s but with the snow season being shorter these days it does not make as much sense to have the extra set of tires for the winter.

    I just purchased the Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4's, replacing the OEM Michelins that came with my 2018 Honda Accord 2.0T Sport. I took a 1,200-mile round trip to South Carolina last month (Sept 2022). All I can say is the All Season 4's has excellent to insane levels of lateral grip, great directional feel, with extra firm side walls, and they transformed the handling on my Accord over the OEM tires. Feels like a completely different car now. Compared to the OEM, it's like changing out casual shoes and putting on track cleats. I'm not too fond of the subtly more road noise than the original tires. It's weird, though. The ALL Season 4's are louder on smoother surfaces, like fresh Asphalt, at high-speeds. Not that distracting with music up to a reasonable volume. Overall, I am very pleased with these tires.

    I bought the DWS06-Plus set for my 2020 Honda Civic Si 2-Door Coupe 6-Speed Manual (235/40ZR18) for a blend of All-Season grip and very sporty handling. I literally just had the tires installed last week, so bad timing on the review for me LOL 🤣. However, having seen the review, like him, I am happy with my purchase. #1 in Wet Performance is a HUGE win for Continental, I just wish the snow performance had been a little bit better and then it would have been the ultimate UHP All-Season. However as he stated - All-Season Tires are a compromise. What made me choose the Conti over Michelin is value. Pilot Sport All-Season Gen 4 tires are known for not lasting very long due to their extremely soft compound. The Contis have a longer warranty and higher treadwear rating while also costing $25 less per tire in my size. This makes them an absolute no-brainer over the Michelins for anyone who even remotely considers any kind of value out of these tires. In my size, people typically get around 35,000 miles out of the Michelins. Im hoping to get more like 40,000-45,000 out of my Contis.

      One big thing you're overlooking though is the wet braking. That 5 foot or so wet braking difference can make the difference between stopping in time or having a collision. Is it really worth saving $100 on a set of tires if you end up doing thousands of dollars of damage or more from a collision that could have been avoided with a tire with a shorter braking distance?

    • @wallacengineering8096
      @wallacengineering8096 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jason3298 5 Feet in wet braking is nothing though, if you get that close to an accident scenario then you are an idiot driver driving way too fast in wet conditions with road traffic. Its so very close to tied with 1st place that you can't really go wrong with these tires.
      Its actually our wet season right now in Salt Lake City as the weather cools towards the snowy season and these tires have been fantastic. The OEMs on this car were GoodYear Eagle Sport UHP-ASs and after driving on these contis for barely a week I could already tell the Eagles were a completely trash-tier tire.
      The only part of performance to be slightly concerned about is snow performance. It is a fair bit behind the leaders, but still 3rd place overall in the entire category of tires. So it will still be plenty grippy for the average driver, just take it slow at first and feel-out how your car responds to the snow before picking up any pace.

No idea if this is factual, just speculating. For example, comparing the same tires you did in this test, they gave the Continental the edge in comfort over the Michelin AS4 which is the opposite of your experience. Anyway, It appears to me that your tests are very well done, real life unbiased tests which I really appreciate! Thanks!

    Excellent review, but I think as part of the snow test, you should add something like a hill climb. Drifting on a snow track doesn't show anything. The point with the snow test is not to show a lack of traction, rather the amount of traction. It's analogous to how much slower a car is drifting on a dry track. It's fun, but what's the point when traction and adhesion are the points?

Also a comparison of noise at different tire life stages, although that might not be practical. I have read comments about tires that were quiet till about half life and then became noisy. With less insulation because of emphasis on reducing weight and improving fuel efficiency, tire noise is becoming more of an issue.

With a car like mine, it's never "quiet" and so noise is literally a 0/0 score - not a factor. On my son's SUV.. That thing is extremely quiet inside and so any tire noise would probably be noticed. Also, there's your attention. Being manual with a lot of power, my car requires 80% of my attention to drive or it will happily wrap itself around a tree while my son's SUV is 1 finger easy to drive. Again - he probably has the mental space to listen FOR things like tire noise. :)

    Would be interseting to see a comparision between the pilot alpin 5 and the pilot AS4. I am not quiet sure which is the better winter tire in a climate where snow is rather a rarity

      AS4. Sadly both aren't always offered in the same regions.

    This is the perfect video for me at the moment as I'm looking to replace the tires on my car by the end of the year. I was torn between these exact models of Michelin and Bridgestone and it's nice to see a direct comparison between both. As far as I can tell, they're both very good tires. The price difference between both full sets is about $100 so I might save a bit and go for Bridgestone.

    Ordered the Continental DWS 06+ last week for my '17 Jaguar XF 2L Diesel. Glad to know I made a good choice, although it wasn't done blind. I will let you know how they work out- getting them put on in a day or two. Cheers and thanks for the comprehensive reviews!

    I live in Calgary, AB which is 1 hour east of the Canadian Rockies. Now I do have dedicated winter tyres it can and get quite cold and snow in any month. Of course spring and summer snow does not stay long the mornings can be chilly. Thus the Bridgestone are by far the best option. Just got a set for my Mk 8 GTI performance. I did have the Hankook Evo UHP summer which were great but too many days where (due to the weather) they did not perform that well. Thus the 980+ are what I just went with.

    My golf R came with continental contisportcontact 5p summer tires. I run the Michelin pilot sport AS4.
    I feel like summer tires are only useful if you’re taking your car to a track. It’d be different if they were cheaper, but considering the fact that they’re more expensive and wear much faster, it’s not really worth the cost. Even on the canyon roads out here in CA, the UHP AS are very good.

    Immediately swapped the stock Bridgestone Turanza EL440 on my Mazda3 AWD for Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 Plus and they have been very impressive in the dry and especially the wet. These are like dedicated rain tires. Heavy rain and standing water no issue at all. I live in Southern California so I rarely get rain and never snow. In the dry they’re stable and grippy, also quiet. I was going to get the Michelin Pilot Sport AS4 but they were significantly more expensive.

    There are so many excellent tire manufacturers in the world, offering products with nearly identical performance for the same purpose. Whether it's sports, all-season, winter, or fuel-efficient tires, the differences between them are often marginal and hard to rank. However, I always choose Michelin for any purpose, and I am willing to pay the extra cost. Even when the tread is almost worn out and road noise becomes noticeable, Michelin maintains its performance until the very end.
    Some competitors might beat Michelin in "brand-new tire" comparison tests. But what about after 40,000 miles of use? After purchasing a new car and experiencing other brands through the stock tires, I’ve come to realize there are indeed "better-performing" tires in certain aspects. However, as a tire that lasts and delivers consistent performance until the very end, Michelin has earned my trust and ensured my safety.
    This is why I will continue to choose Michelin in the future.

    I don't deal with snow but just installed a set of Bridgestones on my Lexus LS430. I think it's the perfect tire for that car, very comfortable and quiet compared to the previous two sets of Michelins I had prior.
    Only downside is more noticable rolling resistance for sure.

    Hmm, due to my wife reporting hydroplaning in the rain, I've been researching tires for our 2012 Hyundai Genesis sedan and pretty much settled on the Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 Plus. And, considering that we almost never get snow here in east Texas, and based on your testing, it looks like that tire may be the winner.

    Where I live, there is no snow. So in my 34 years of driving experience, Bridgestone Potenza is the best followed by Pirelli and Michelin last. Haven’t tried the Continental.
