    I don't have Iaito, I have a sakabato shinken. My tsuka ito came loose and has to be replaced after 13 years of use. It has been my training partner for all these years because I am in America and only recently discovered Iaito, otherwise I'd have purchased one years ago. I will be replacing my tsuka ito myself, you can find helpful videos on TH-cam if you don’t know how. My saya also needs to be tightened, sanded and repainted. I will be doing all that myself as well. My only hope is that I won't need to separate the tsuka from it's fittings to re wrap it. Thank you for video and the tip on tightening the koiguchi, I was unaware of that process and I very much appreciate the knowledge.

    Thank you for this video as so far there isnt another one on this subject. My iaito is actually also a Minosaka but its brand new, this will come in handy if any real maintenance has to happen years down the line. This is fantastic advice, I had no idea it was no problem doing some minimal re-bending of the blade, or the wood product oil being good for the saya, somehow that hadn't occurred to me.

    Thank you very much for the video, I learnt quite a lot. I indeed had some problem with my iaito, some months ago, with the blade being a little loose on the handle and completely loose in the saya, but a friend in the dojo has some knowledge on sword maintenance and did it for me. If ha had this video I could have done it myself! =)
    The video also is very good for giving clear perspective of how each of the pieces in the katana assamble works

    Merci, very nice, informal video! Is there a similar video on maintenance for the bokken? Oiling, sanding and those sorts of things?

      Yes! We're thinking about it. Probably in a month or so.

    Where would I go to get wood paper? My saya is a little bit loose now and needs to be tighten.

      @@seidobudostudies Ha, turns out it's harder than you think. I initially went to Home Depot, a chain home construction supplies store here in the US. All they had was wallpapers that look like wood. Same thing when I searched on Amazon. Tons of hits on wallpapers that look like wood. It wasn't till I changed my search query to "wood sheets" did I finally get what I was looking for. Also, one more question. Would any household glue works or do I need a speciality glue for this?

    • @seidobudostudies
      @seidobudostudies  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      True! Wood sheets is a much better keyword. Just found that out a few weeks ago! Most DIY stores have them in stock, at least in Japan. Can't say for the US, but it's a pretty standard item.
      A specialist would say that wood glue is the best, but we very often use cyanoacrylate (fast glues / power glues) on wood, it works perfectly fine. It's much easier to use actually, and it is fairly easy to sand off if you put too much.

    Bonjour ! J'aimerais avoir des conseils par rapport au tsuka ito, le mien est malheureusement encrassé par la transpiration de mes mains, qu'est-ce ce que je peux faire contre ça

    • @seidobudostudies
      @seidobudostudies  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honnêtement, pas grand chose. Le lavage endomagerait le bois de la Tsuka... la solution classique étant de refaire le Tsukaito.

      @popolele4738 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@seidobudostudies merci, c'est bien ce que je me disais. Je ne pense pas que j'ai la possibilité de refaire le tsukaito

      @@popolele4738
      Vous pouvez démonter la tsuka et faire refaire uniquement le tsuka ito au Japon par exemple.
      Ce a un coût cependant, notamment au niveau du transport aller/retour.

    Krazy glue gel is your friend. Just don't get it on your fingers.

    My Iaito broke after it fell on the ground. That was really sad. It is not fixable, i believe. :/
