My favorite track off that album, both beautiful and chilling, and Orson’s narration, like a cherry on top! (Although that may not be a fitting analogy)
Parsons has done a wonderfull. Job with this peice. And after 40 years I never knew Debussy wrote it. Play it on a good hifi full blast and it shakes the house... Note... Neighbours are not happy!!!
Its not Debussy but Parsons Recording Engineer Wolff who had the idea for a long time and who wrote it, being a Poe Fanatic. This just Fyi. Look it up on Wikipedia.
as I entered the gothic archway of the hall . . . a valet of stealthy step, thence conducted me, in silence through many dark and intricate passages . . .
For the first time I heard accords on this song that in the cassettes and CDs that I had, were not audible! Something new!. This goes to show how intense are these songs!
Yes, the original blew my mind as well, I played it insanely to death!😄 I think the original mix sounds better, but I do like the added narration. I wish they had added it to the original mix as the reissue.
The best concept album ever composed.
Thanks for sharing this walk down memory lane. I wore this record out in college.

Like an ornately carved lid on a crypt ?🤔

Beautiful video featuring my favorite author and great album of my youth.
For those uninitiated, the magic starts around 7:00
But there is so much more within this album
10:36 The Pavane, this is the good part of the song
That’s not only a song. If you need songs look for Pop music.
@@klausbadenAlan Parsons Project was pop music. They had several songs on the pop charts.

@@feymreichmanostenrn8751 Actually the beginning is by Debussy. Look up "La chute de la maison Usher (opera)"
Obra de arte musical😊❤

This is the remastered version. I believe the originally released version from the '70s didn't have the Orson Welles narration and some other touches.

The one I posted is the original without the narrative!
The mix of the original is better. Too bad there isn't a version of the original with the added vocals by Wells.
I do love poetry..... Blood Moon
6:26 - where the power of the properly-employed oboe proves the words of Poe as spoken by Orson at the beginning, 🎃 😁
Thanks for the explanation
Used to (alas) own the MoFi Lp of this work. A masterpiece, as is I Robot (had the UHQR). Gaudi has some good music, too.
Scary
Excellent edition
Ahh, lots of Debussy in there...
A connoisseur!
What a pity that M. Debussy didn't finish his opera. But how delightful to hear a part of it in this.
Thanks for your explanation
Better than Innagottadavita !! Excellent 16 minutes on my tube audio system ! WOW
This is Debussy
Which composition?
@@poconos27 La chute de la maison Usher (opera)

Who is the artist who produced the ghoul near the end of the piece?
Absolutely, wonderfully grotesque!
That was Andrew Powell, Arranger, Composer and Conductor in the Project.
The original 1976 album blew my mind - I don't understand the later Narrative version at all. I think it ruins the product.
