@@liasummers1824 He mentions the watch being easily available, so is the movement. He also mentions the quality for the value, which is also there in the NH36. So, what are you trying to say? That it’s basic? It still ticks off those boxes. Makes no sense lol
I like the Barracuda, but i'm surely biased because i love the old 1016. People despise 'clomages' and oftentimes correctly, but i believe that long discontinued watches (or references, in this case) shouldn't be treated like that since the real ones are essentially unobtainable today anyway.
I own three Smiths: an Everest, Commando (with acrylic crystal and tropical dial) and a Silver Jubilee (with aventurine dial and jubilee bracelet). All 3 are superb watches. I also own a 124270 Explorer, which I love. Great channel, subscribed!
The smiths everest is truly a great watch. The anti magnetism at that price totally blow any competition away. Its truly a watch that can be that one watch collection..
Love the explorer im wearing a great little tisell explorer Sapphire, glide lock, super accurate miyota 9015 , great lume . Didn't really get the explorer hype at first but i get it now. Mark and islander watches are amazing and continue to get better. He is plugged in and pays attention to the watch community and delivers great quality at a great price and is top notch business.
Nice job, very smooth music background. Based on "This gives you the exact same feeling on the wrist" I just ordered another Islander. Just can't wait. Thank you Sir!
Islander watches came out with the Rangemaster a couple years back and it takes inspiration from the Rolex explorer, Tudor ranger, Seiko Sarb033, etc, it’s 38mm 100 meters wr, sapphire glass with AR coating, solid links with solid female end links, BGW9 superluminova and finally a Miyota 9039 Hi-beat automatic movement inside.
Nice review(s). Just liked & subscribed. I previously owned a Z-serial 114270. I loved the design & execution, but it was just too small for my 7.5" wrist. Then I tried the Exp 39mm Mk1. Kept it for 8 yrs, but finally couldn't take the short hands, lol. Now I'm collecting Exp homages. Steinhart, Tisell, Addiesdive, San Martin, and a beautiful 40mm PRS-25 Smiths Everest. Super-happy with all of them and I'm looking to add a few more, lol. Will check out your other reviews.
Hey, at the end of the day, it’s what ticks boxes. They all tell time and it’s not always worth spending thousands for a Rolex. The T-Rex if funny looking 😄😄😄. Out of homages I think the Lorier Falcon does it for me the most 🙋🏻♂️🥃
Really cool video. Well done. Personally I love the Smiths version, it just has that little something. I love the Serica and it has been on my radar for a while. Glad I did not buy it when it came out initially after the terrible issues with the crown.
Very nice variety! I’ve got my Lorier Falcon II that sort of scratches that itch. I really like the acrylic crystal on it. I’d still love an Explorer, though. Did you see the Rangemaster collab this week between TGV & Marc from LIW? They looked really nice!
If you’re ever able to get your hands on the Falcon 3 I highly recommend it. Definitely scratched that explorer itch for me while also not being a direct copy. Feels very much like it’s own thing.
I love the explorer and one day I will own one. My personal favorites that are in my collection that fit in the place of the explorer are the Tudor BB36 mines in blue but the black version would probably be a better explorer alternative. The Lorier Falcon I have the gen 2 but the new Gen 3 is good alternative. And out of left field is my Sinn 556. It can go anywhere and do anything, wonderful quality and impressive specs, 200m, high and low pressure resistant, and anti magnetic. The bracelet even comes with a dive extension even though its not a diver. But there's tons of options because the explorer is a legend and is probably favorite Rolex model.
@@igorz.3972 I currently own the Sinn 556 A RS and I've also owned the Sinn 556IB blue dial with applied markers which I regret selling. Even though they are the same watch having both didn't seem repetitive because they looked so different. I sold the 556IB because I just got the Tudor BB36 in blue as well as a Lorier Falcon 2 in blue and I didn't want 3 similar watches but now that I have the BB36 in blue and it is a gorgeous watch I think the Sinn 556IB really did give it a run for it's money. The specs are better. The brushed finish with that dial and fine link bracelet had amazing light play. I personally think its better looking than the Oyster Perpetual as well. The Sinn 556A RS is like my "explorerish" watch that I take with me on my weekend outdoor/vacation stuff. Regular people don't know what it is so I don't have a chance of getting stalked and robbed over having a nice watch on and it's up to any task. The 556 can literally go anywhere do anything the bracelet even has a dive extension. If you want a more dressy watch I'd get the one with applied indices and a wicked dial. If you want a under the radar rock solid tool watch get the Regular 556A or 556I. I liked the 556A RS because I like 3,6,9 dials because it's easy to tell the time at a very quick glance and in the dark due to it having more lume. The red seconds hand throws in just a pop of color.
How would you compare the Smiths Everest PRS-25 with the Lorier Falcon? They are about the same price, but what would the pros and cons be of either as an explorer alternative?
Nice review but so many miss the best homage. The Zeno super precision is very very good, like the original it uses acrylic and and a new old stock AS movement that has been serviced. The newest ones are now using Miyota movements but you can still find some with the AS if you take the time to look around.
Marc is a great guy, and I have several Islander watches, but if I bought the Islander Explorer I'd have to replace the hands. Even stick hands would be better.
@@maciej6293 The hands are flieger hands, not appropriate for this kind of watch. I'd replace with stick hands (like a field watch) or cathedral hands, like the Explorer.
I used to own a smiths I sold it because it looked tiny compared to a rolex explorer. The islander sits to proud makes it look odd. And the other one I don't like the dial
Great vid. I like your approach comparing them on their own merits vs any sort of point system like some reviewers do. I do really like the patina of the WMT. Not sure I'd buy it as my only Explorer homage though, at least not that version. The Smiths is great as well. I like the Islander, esp if you prefer an 'inspired by' approach rather than a strong homage. I bought an 36mm Alpha for cheap and... it was OK, but just feels relatively cheap. It's fine on wrist but when handling it, it is pretty subpar. No Miyota stutter on mine. Then I got a Tisell a while back. I went for the 39mm. They are creeping up in price. Mine was $225 when I bought it. Some may say it is too derivative but it doesn't say 'Rolex' so I prefer to think of it as a very close homage. Great bracelet and clasp as well though I usually wear it on a grey vintage leather strap. It's a top five watch for me. Maybe top three.
Great review, all of the watches appeal to my taste I particularly like this style of watch and yeah being of a certain age nostalgia is becoming my thing
Hi Leo Nice vid. Would prefer the Smiths as it has the same history. Imo the only thing San Martin does better is their beautiful case finishing.
