Flowmaster Delta 40 Series vs. Thrush Welded Mufflers (1968 Pontiac 400)

  • On this video we install some very close mufflers on the car. I have not found 1 comparison between these 2 mufflers. 2.25 in exhaust engine back, true dual tailpipes
    Flowmaster Delta 40 Series
    The extra delta plates inside reverb the sound a bit more, and don't allow it to get as deep as the Super 44 and the original 40 series. They also have more of a tiny sound than other Flowmasters and the welded. Good mufflers overall but just not my style. The drone is still considerably there
    Thrush Welded
    These have a completely different interior design. They are still a chambered muffler, but ive gained a few decibels in noise and even with that the drone is not as bad. still there but better than the Flowmasters. I am very happy with these as they have a little less drone even with the 40 delta series being advertised as a quieter loud muffler. The sound is also deeper and you can feel it more. And at the cost they are I definitely recommend if your looking for the deep sound of chambered mufflers and your more on a budget.

    Gorgeous car! I remember back in the day people would talk down to guys for showing classic 4 doors. Now we're much deeper into automotive history and people rarely do that anymore. Which is good because this thing is pure rolling history.

      Appreciate it. People still don't like them, but they are a bit more acceptable.

    The thrushes welded are exact copies of the original flow master 40s. Flowmasters parent expired or something like that so it’s not illegal to copy the design anymore. I had these on my trans am, def same thing.

      Ah. I did not know. I think the original 40s sound a little deeper from the videos ive seen, but I do like them alot :)

    You have a great car , it deserves a engine detail and cam that says you have arrived not just made it , and also please please get new set of battery cables, those universal battery clamps only look ok on old farm equipment .

    i think it sounds great "then again most v8s will sounds great with any muffler". Are there resonators on the car? is there drone?

    • @16abind
      @16abind  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No resonators, I thought about putting them on. Yes there is drone but only at certain rpms. Its not enough to disqualify the mufflers though. It really depends on your cars shift pattern, and auto vs manual trans and where you cruise. I love them. Its less than my Super 44s had a while ago, but sounds a lot like them with the sound without the drone those produced everywhere.

    • @danhoyland142
      @danhoyland142 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh yeah man. These came out in 2009 and sold like hot cakes bc they got half the price of regular flowmaster 40s. I just bought a 79 trans am when they were released and they sounded great at idle. Honestly the reason why yours don’t sound as deep might be your pipes. Mine made the car sound like it had a nice Lopey idle and that was using the stock manifolds into a y pipe then into dual pipes. I changed to headers and true dual exhaust and it sounded completely different. I lost that chop and was like wtf?!? Honestly after that swap I didn’t like them anymore so maybe that’s the reason.

      Thrush are better. But I liked the other mufflers I put on even more. Orileys Rumble performance. Deeper sound like I wanted. I don't have the car anymore either. Check my channel for why. But thrush are ok. I like deeper sound better though.

      What do you mean? The flows are the 40 delta

    • @AdmiralRustyShackleford
      @AdmiralRustyShackleford 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Flowmaster has 4 different 40 series mufflers. In order from least to most loud: Delta 40, Super 40, Super 44 and Original 40. Any quieter than the Delta 40 and you go to the 50 series. Any louder than the Original 40 and you go to the 10 series.
