As someone who never got hooked by the mainline MH games and loves JRPG, Stories 2 is definitely an amazing game for me. MH Rise and MH World are both great tho
@sergiomartinezvillar9795 reminds me of bobs burgers they find out a dude is selling them horse meat and Tina gets mad and says they have to stop them, the horse is probably almost dead by now. Poor sweet innocent child
When it comes to lore, you are technically doing each quest on MH games once, that's why it gets a checkmark when it's finished. It's more like Borderlands, you can do quest multiple times, but the story happened already. And only monsters who disturbs the balance of nature are being hunted.
Correct. And the riders normally have only one or two monsties, but that would be really lame gameplaywise. And you don't discard the eggs you don't pick. That's more of a bad translation thing. They're still in the nest unharmed. You just decided they weren't suitable companions for you. Therefore, it is more or less logical that you cannot change your mind later. And all the cutscenes (even your own with ratha) more or less debunk the "enslave" myth. You never enslave the monsties. They choose you as a partner. The whole stone of binding thing is more or less a gameplay mechanic to explain the quick hatching. I mean nobody wants to wait an real time month just to hatch the eggs. And yes the "magically" age (again for gameplay) and it is sad that we can't see the babies more, but they're definitely not fully grown, but juveniles. Every wild monster is much lager than your own.
@@t1r1g0n I believe it was once said somewhere that Monsties only grow to 1/3 the size of their wild counterparts, but I always found that a bit suspect with Velocidrome and such, and I believe it’s been firmly retconned with Red and Guardian Ratha.
4:48 Clarification, the parent monster you just fought is not knocked out They’re dead. You killed them and stripped them for parts, and THEN steal the unborn babies
That always makes me wonder whether we find it less annoying simply because we don't know the language xD I wonder if japanese players find him annoying too.
Pawsitively Clawdacious! I played the original Monster Hunter Stories, and I had quite the blast with it. So naturally I picked up the sequel and enjoyed it even more. My only complaint is how they took away the gimmick that you can change your Monstie's element. I want to have an electric Blue Yian-Kut-Ku again. It was the best thing for me in the first game.
I am pretty much in the same boat, I thought the original was one of the best games released on the 3ds, even competing against zelda and mario but I mean really, as a sequel, compared to the 3ds game, I was very happy with this release overall
I'm just on my way to completing the 1st game. 95 hours in the game. And I am a completionist for some games. Probably be finished on 5 - 10 hours more. I'll be playing this 2nd game in 5 - 7 years later because I do not have a Switch until then
"Monster never changes attack" Then theres me fighting a Rathian in the first game and deciding which attack to use that will end mostly wrong ang killing your character in 1 or 2 hit.
Unfortunately the story in the 1st game is basically Naruto meets How To Train Your Dragon Literally I can count 5 or 6 scenes that happen from those 2 anime and movies that happens in the game as well. The dynamic of main character and Cheval is exactly the same as Naruto and Sasuke. Leilia is just Sakura I'd rank it in A. 9/10
10:32 You didn't even mention half of the mechanics, like double attacks, type-less skills that aren't part of the power-speed-technical trio, AOEs, monsters that attack multiple times a turn, monsters that use all 3 types starting about halfway, instant-wins when you get higher level, your monsti's skills, etc.. It doesn't exactly 'evolve', but it definitely expands as more mechanics are used more frequently.
@dsproductions19 I mean you're not wrong but as the title says, these are his opinions. If he was covering all the gameplay, he'd make it a review or a gameplay guide.
Navi's voice is so much better in Japanese, just saying. Like the whole game is. I loved MHS on my ds and I absolutely love MHS2, this is the perfect game for me. I love Monster Hunter games in general but there's just something about the Monster Hunter Stories that speaks to me! I love battling monsters, the story, animation and naming my monsties. I've cried so much during the amazing cut scenes that it's almost embarrassing. This game is so addictive, I sometimes forget to continue the story because I'm hunting eggs and trying to get a monstie with good genes lol.
I'm hoping if there'd be a Stories 3, they'd add a character placement/movement mechanics similar to Divinity: Original Sin. And add the rest of the weapons!
Great video my dude but I think the story was pretty good while it didn't change my outlook on life ar made me question my values the story was good enough to keep me engaged which is already better than all of the other mh games combined and on top of that the growth of your character is great and I know I'm in the minority here but I love naviru because life never misses a chance to kick him in the balls and he retaliates with comedy and a positive outlook instead of crying
One big difference from the first game is that they removed the element change from the first game, so no more changing your Monsties appearance and Kinship Attacks to a different element. Worst part, it wouldn't be that hard to fix, because it's works on old and new monsties, like Kulu Ya Ku, Pukei-Pukei, Tobi-Kadachi, Mizutsune, and Gammoth. Edit: You look at the baby Monsties in your Monstipedia. But yeah, I want to raise the baby Monsties so bad, too though.
The game is amazing, long time pokemon fN every sense red and blue came out, honestly this has to be just as good as any pokemon game I have ever played. I have put 250 hours in the game and still playing. Wished it had a better pvp system cuz pvp is soo fun. 250 hours into the game and still playing.
I don't like when people over simplify the story, cause really you can do the same to almost all JRPG stories. And honestly most stories are rather simple outside of one or two sudden twists. But honestly most JRPG stories are Bad things happen, hero gets chosen, hero gets stronger, and hero saves the day.
@@bryanflanagan6144 true but that just goes to prove my point, no the story of MHS2 isn't super complex or anything, but I found it enjoyable and it didn't drag on too long. But why oversimplify the story of one game when the same criticism can be leveled at any game.
@@usscolumbia6149 the thing that irked me in the story was when they were super understanding for Ratha while they went all judgemental on Oltura. They were so happy they could pass the blame on the world's destruction to Oltura. I loved it when Red heard Oltura and that he knew he just wanted to be born. Overall, I liked it still. Reverto is the best character in the game for me.
@@usscolumbia6149 Because that criticism *can't* be used for any game, like you said. You can try and say it for the Kingdom Hearts games, but that'd be crazy, everyone knows how complex that story gets (for better or worse). Same for the Mass Effect games, and a ton of other ones. A game doesn't need a full story to be fun, though I'd definitely expect a good (or at least complex) story from a game with Story in the name.
1) The developers love Navirou. They are happy people don't hate him in this game. I personally still think he sucks, but he sucks less than the previous game (I did not play in English, I would not do that to myself) 2) The story feels SO SIMILAR to the first game - I often got this strange confusion as to who the Red was. Another Rathalos they call Ratha, more holes in the ground, more monsters going crazy, is Ratha a bad boy, or a good boy? Can you control Ratha? 3) I found the combat fun, once you over level you can just quick complete the bulk of battles so it didn't wear out it's welcome. I was often sad seeing cute monsties and not being able to interact with them. The biggest sad point for me is that High Rank doesn't completely take over the world - as hunting becomes stuck into dungeons after that point - rather than sailing around and making good use of out the spaces they spent so much time in.
It is my first game in the MH franchise and since I have none to compare to, I like the game! The battle part does get repetitive at the end. As for Navirou, I don't have issue with him and seems like he is only punny in English. I changed to Japanese audio and he sounds normal. I do WISH my character would speak though.
I dunno, the thing I dislike most is really just Navirou's voice. In the first game, he was annoying at first but he grew on me and was really cute and his "monster hunter" voice was really cute. But the English voice for him in this game is just...tiring and feels like it doesn't fit. It's too low for him and speaks with such a strange dialect that it's kind of annoying. I dunno, I have sensory issues so I'm typically sensitive to voice acting and I see this a lot in "average" English dubs of anime where it feels almost overacting or like the voice actor is forcing. Other than that, I like Navirou as a character and especially in the first game, he was really enjoyable. Overall, I really love this game. I was never a Monster Hunter fan because of the graphics, but Monster Hunter Stories, the first one, really got me into it and I ended up diving into Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate cause I got it at a second hand store for a good price and ended up loving it. Playing this second MHS? It does a lot of improved things I enjoy, but there are certainly changes I don't enjoy as much. It's usually just small things like having to press A to hatch the egg, how the menus look especially with the right of channeling (it's really overwhelming and difficult for me cause of my sensitive eyes and it can actually make me somewhat dizzy, the first game had an easy-on-the-eyes menu imo), no rewards for completing your monsterpedia (just from what I can tell, if I'm wrong lemme know), not having short animations for gathering, not having multiple monster egg patterns (tho I can understand why, I wish there were at least two different colors for eggs), and other small stuff like that. It doesn't bring the game down, however, and I still love the game no matter what. It's a wonderful sequel. I love the improved customizations, the added battle buddies is nice though I do prefer battling alone in the story, the expanded world is really great, and the added monsters are all great choices. The voice acting and graphics are solid, the online is really fun. I do miss customizing my rider card, I was really disappointed to see that was just changed to be just a phrase, but none of it really ruins the game for me. The story is really fun, I enjoy the new Ratha though I do wish we didn't have to keep the exact same nickname as before. Especially with Guardian Ratha, it was kind of confusing since we now have like 3 different Rathalos named Ratha. I wished we could have named the Rathalos we hatched since in the first game Lilia named it, but it felt like we should have a chance to name it, but I also understand how that would have affected the story/cutscenes. To finish it off, it's an incredible game. I wasn't excited about the addition of voice acting, but I thoroughly enjoy the English voices (I've only ever played with the English voices). I honestly absolutely love this game. I still do prefer the first one in a lot of ways, but both are incredible games and separating it from the first, the second is a solid game. Great customization, great progression, intriguing story, amazing characters. Some things aren't always clear, at least to me, and I've had to use google to try to figure some stuff out, but it's never taken away from the enjoyment of the experience. I do wish they'd make it more clear that you couldn't get certain monster eggs in dens until you fought them (if they did, I must have missed it) because I ended up with a bunch of repeat monsters trying to get other monsters that I would have gotten if I just kept playing the story. I like to take a break from the story and just explore and set up my monsters/team and the first thing I do is always get all the eggs that I can so if more were added, I wouldn't have realized this. This was in the first game, but not to the extent that it is. In the first game, you'd be able to collect most every egg available at the time. Rarer monsters would be the only ones added after a bit of the story aside from the Lagombi egg since it was related to the story. But I didn't realize that so I was trying to get some eggs before I had even encountered the monsters because I saw on the guide that I could get them. A lot of my complaints are just small things due to personal preference/play style/personal sensory issues and the like. I'd say anyone would be able to enjoy the game and I'm also glad that it wasn't necessarily a direct sequel so even if someone didn't play the first game, like my friend, or didn't finish the first one, like me, then we can still enjoy it without really getting spoiled. The most you'll see is recurring characters like Avinia and Navirou and it may cause some confusion, but it doesn't ruin the game at all. I like that. If it was more of a sequel, I probably wouldn't have played it yet since I'd try to finish the first game. It feels like its own distinct game that can be enjoyed despite it being Monster Hunter Stories 2 and I really appreciate that. I've always found indirect sequels like this a lot more fun since it doesn't restrict others. Sorry this comment got so long, but Monster Hunter Stories is my current hyperfixation/one of my biggest special interests so I love to ramble. There aren't too many flaws, at least in my opinion, and it's a great entry into the Monster Hunter series if you've never been interested in the mainline games like me or my friends or even if you're a big pokemon fan or into "monster collecting" like games then this is perfect. The pokemon aspect is what got me to download the demo of the first game all that time ago. Also I appreciate the online and how it works. As someone with severe social anxiety, I often avoid online co-op modes, but doing the co-op in this game was nerve-wracking at first, but it's never been a bother for me. I feel on even footing with the player I get connected with even if we're vastly different in levels and it's pretty fun to just hop on and do a quest and most players always thank you for the help with the stickers. It feels really inviting and I love collecting their rider cards and examining their team. Since it's so simple, it is really inviting and is a feature I actually enjoy, especially when I can help someone out who's lower level than me. I never feel "lesser" just cause I'm so much lower in level and I don't have the same "cool" monsters from late-game that they do, I feel on even footing which is something I rarely experience in online co-op modes. It's really nice and I definitely appreciate it. Love the video and loved seeing your opinions on it :) I always love seeing your reviews especially of games that interest me or I have played. Keep up the amazing work and content
I'm really enjoying Stories 2. Being a MH fan, it's a nice casual way to enjoy the franchise when I'm not really in the mood for a real hunt. That said. The game would be SO MUCH BETTER if that cat never existed.
Monsters dont always use one type of attack, they sometimes use yellow typeless attacks which you need to have a sharp eye to notice and figure out the best way to deal with an attack that cannot be countered.
I think the story is fine. Not revulutionating storytelling but good to keep me engaged. I was astonished by the looks and ton of details when talking to npc‘s. I was so happy after waiting for years that mhs2 was produced. I think the idea that the monsters movement could be more randomized and visible in it‘s behavior would be a really great addition. As well as the part of raising the Monsties. I hope this sells really well and see where it progresses to.
Navirou, in the Japanese version, is actually amazing. As soon as I heard his American voice, I died a little in the inside knowing that people played this game with that annoying voice the whole time.
Loved playing the game. Sunk around 60 hours into it, which for me is kind of a miracle, even did some of the post-game stuff. Despite the faults, it's fun and definitely worth if you like this kind of game
yeaaaaah the first game didn't sell that much despite being good (there were like 3 trailers, 1 is the official game and the 2nd is the epona dlc. the 3rd was the anime). I blame nintendo for that. also my only complaint atm bit of a spoiler so don't read on your own saftey kinda wish we had an exclusive look on the rathalos wings. they're basically same aside from the scales being black, the wings having a different pattern, the eyes looking night blue and the chest being a bit more detailed.
Or just in general being able to use those badass looking destruction wings or whatever (the ones in the legiana cutscenes where he fireballs the windmills) cause HOT DAMN, those were epic af, could have atleast made us able to "switch" into his fury (?) mode but because of the kinship hes not that dangerous anymore and stuff so we should be fine lol oh well, I actually prefer Ratha 2's design more, I likethe little extra but yeah, he doesn't stick out that much
Mh stories in a nutshell is Early game: "wow this game is easy" Late game: *starts having to micro 5 different rts games at once just to kill the most basic of enemies* Same with mh stories 2
It took me hearing 2 lines of Navirou's English voice before I instantly changed to Japanese, and never looked back. The Japanese voice is far better, and I didn't have any complaints for the rest of the cast either.
i just finished the story! i don’t think i’ll ever get sick of this game, it’s really great! my only complaint is that i want to punt navirou into the sun
woods is the reason i am buying a nintendo switch tomorrow. i have been watching him for 2 years and he has been my favourite youtuber. i have tryed convinising my parents to let me buy a switch myself but they said no untill now and i want to say thank you woods even if you don't see this.
Now I remember why I quit the first game...and the TV series...and now the same reason why I'll pass on this game: Navirou. Some folk go on and on about this game, but when a dad-joke-lovin' dad says, "Dear Lord, someone euthanize that dumb cat!" you know the game should be taken out back and put down. Thanks for the best review of this game I've found so far. Money saved.
Actually beat this game this morning! Definitely had fun with it, the story is pretty cookie cutter but the art style still got me w each cutscene. Overall it’s a solid pickup and worth the 40 or so hours I put into the game.
"Pawsitively Clawdacious" Thats Right, I love the game so much, It was first introduced to me by a friend of mine, when I first got my hands on my friends copy of the game, I never wanted to let go, It was just plain good. It was amazing how you can hatch monsters and ride them.
I love this game so much. Actually studying a monsters behavior so that you can nope it on everything it does is so rewarding. Yes, there is this morality issue of slaying monster and taking their eggs but for me with a combined playtime of almost 3000 hours on Generations Ultimate, World Iceborne and Rise, I have grown numb in hunting them and putting them down. Awesome review though. Keep it up. :) Edit: English language Navirou is more tolerable for me than World's Handler. XD
really enjoyed the review! been psyched for this one! I thought Wood would love this game, I really did; but ya strict turn based doesn't always hit you right. imo the co-op and pvp are where the endgame is at! check out YS IX: Monstrum on Switch after it's patched! Riiiide On
Pawsitively Clawdacious. I’m glad you brought up the premise of the story, nicking the eggs! I’ve got to say I played the demo and I honestly felt a bit icky about it! However I’ve since heard how great the game is and have some FOMO. So I hope I win a copy!
My biggest complaint about every game that doesn’t have the main character speak is the main character can’t speak 😂always ruins the game. But thanks for your opinion, Wood. I always enjoy your videos. Look forward to your opinion on Baldo!
That and the fact they kept flashbacking to their grandpa. So its like...why not just have Red be the main character then? Instead of getting these sloppy second flashbacks to the past smh
As a person who literally knows nothing about this series, except that it’s pretty popular among certain people, I have to ask. Can you customize your character with different outfits? And will I be completely confused if I choose this as my intro to the series? This game looks so cute and right up my alley.
You can customize your character with all kinds of armor. There's also Layered Armor, which basically lets you dress up in your favorite looking set while keeping the stats from the one you're actually wearing. As for your other question, you can play Monster Hunter Stories 2 without having to play the first one, or any other Monster Hunter game. At most some characters from 1 return/are mentioned in 2, but that's about it.
Absolutely hilarious video, but also very well done! I played the demo (I’ve never played Monster Hunter before and was told it was like BOTW so I thought I’d try it). I actually kinda liked the demo, but I also found many of the complaints you said. Not sure if I’ll still pick up the full game, but overall I enjoyed it. Thanks for the informative video! Definitely lets me know what’s really happening before I buy it.
This game is AMAZING 😁 although I've got so many games now not played half of them all the way through. But so far this game is gorgeous funny, fun and just darn brilliant 😺 and I love navirou he's hilarious and so cute.
As a solo Monster Hunter, all the way from MF: Freedom Unite, the first Monster Hunter Stories is actually in my top 3 Monster Hunters. I love the switch up, but you can grind materials and eggs until your heart’s content. I accidentally made a Molten Tigrex fairy early in the game. An Ice spewing Zinogre. The paper, scissors, rock system (Power->Speed->Technical) is very risky and rewarding, simple yet so fun. Every Monstie (cringe) has its own animated attack when you build up your Rider’s Kinship Stone by winning HtH battles and Team Attacks with your Monstie, which can be devastating while simultaneously generously filling the Stone’s gauge, all the way to a LV3 attack. I’m so ready for a Switch do I can play the sequel. Damn bills😭. 🤘🏻❤️
Yes, honestly I always change to japanese if a game has the option. The only thing in english that I liked or still like in this game, was the opening cinematic song
@@maykaeppeli i did that too before as my weeb side was too strong but good thing i stop there is some games with awesome dubds, i almost miss xenoblades shulk dub when i play it.
What's up my dude! I'm watching my sister's cats while she's outta town and these lil fekkers are Pawsitively Clawdacious, just a pair of bright shiny lights in the dark angry void of nothing that is my life! Have a great day and shine on ya crazy Mormons!
When Wood said he talked too fast in old videos, I thought "Well at least we can always reduce the playback speed. Then I turned playback speed to 50% on this video and Wood starts sounding really bored and sleepy.
8:33 I like that you threw that in there. "If you played Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory, you get it" is what you really mean with that armor onscreen.
haha being a creator I can tell you that greenery takes up alot of data in a system. The elf city is packed with leaves and such which uses alot of alpha mapping in game and it makes the game drop frame like *pukes but the open area field are mostly rocks and such so it makes a huge difference in the game on frame rate!!!
Pawsitively Clawdacious! Really enjoyed this review! I played the demo and I found it super fun as well, but was equally as disappointed to find out that we couldn’t train the baby monsties 😞 Thanks for holding such a cool giveaway, Wood!
on the DS the monsters had a pattern like two technicals and the one power attack, so you had to pay more attention to the battles. And these patterns changed when they were mad
I'm not sure if it's just me, but I actually enjoy navirou. He's hilarious with his cat puns and interactions with the poeple around him, the only annoying thing about him is that he has to talk when you enter the nest area of the den or you get too close to the riding skill areas
I like him too especially in the first game. I just don't like the English voice because I feel like it comes off as "overacting" but for voices. But Navirou as a character himself is one i always enjoy. He's really grown on me and I even find moments in the English where I don't mind some of his voice lines. I don't understand the hate of his character as a whole, I find him a great addition and really grew to care for him when I played the first game and even playing the second one.
Thanks wood for brightening my day up once again after a anxiety filled first week of school. This video was (you know what I’m going to say) Pawsitively Clawdacious
The silent protagonist doesn't work at all if you put someone/something else to speak for you, it actually feels worse. It was so weird watching my character not say a word when other people are clearly trying to have a conversation in the cutscenes. It's no problem when it just a text box, but when it's animated and you can't just put ... , it's just feels weird. And so the most surprised moment for me was actually the last cutscene where my character actually calls his monstie, after not uttering a single sound for the entirety of the game
Well it's slightly more disturbing than Pokémon (having your "pets" fight for money), but in MHS2 go kill monsters, use their parts for weapons and clothes, and steal their babies to make them either help you kill more monsters or as spare parts to boost another monster. But overall it's a fun game, haven't finished it yet, have like 5 story missions to do. (I looked at a walkthrough to see how far was left) And yes the Cat puns do get old after the 5th time, luckily there is the skip battle if your high enough level over the wild monsters (which is good for farming parts)
A lot of pokemons state that they like fighting and some even dare you to catch them or jump in the pokeball by themselves, i dont think the "monsties" ever want to be orphans
@@caquita402 but they'll never know that But there are instances of monsters bonding with humans naturally like ranmar,mhst1's ratha, frostfang, and possibly redans rathalos as he was the first true rider. So really all except ranmar are/were wild monsters that decided to hang around.
@@caquita402 don't blame you as its very uncommon especially ratha's as he hatches right in front of you without a kinship stone.but mhst doesn't have much in the way of lore outside of the razewing legend and redans legend so I hope they expand on it in mhst3.
Come on all you guys need to leave Naviru alone he's pawsitivly clawdacious and just trying to help! Man monster community just doesn't like characters that talk and stick around huh?
Im imagining Wood, looking back at this or any other video and say, "Why am I always shouting". Don't worry Wood awesome video, and I like ur energizing and enthustiac personality. Awesome review, I been curius about this game
I didnt know this existed til E3 when the second one was shown. Now it's most of what I play on the go and I made sure to get the second one too for when im done.
I hope kove and these other companies are lining your pockets man because you're ads are the only ones on youtube that makes me actually want to buy the product. No matter how unrelatable it is to me
12:55 The size of the map doesn't really affect performance. Density of objects and npcs, things that need to be calculated and rendered, are what actually matter. That town has a lot of foliage, plants, NPCs, some monsters, etc. And if it got patched quickly, then they probably just didn't get to optimizing that area before the cartridges were manufactured.
I played the originals DEMO for hours, never mind the full game ( though didn't finish it because of that one volcano lizard boss fight). 10/10 game all the way.
My younger sister Pawsitively loves the 3DS Clawdacious monster stories series so I’m doing this for her in the hopes she can Pawsitively Clawdacious win a copy of this game.
Puursonally, I do find this game pawsitively clawdacious! Okay, in all seriousness tho, I was surprised by how much I loved this game. I don't play the Monster Hunter series as the gameplay is not my cup of tea, however, I find this game so charming and therapeutic. I find the grinding and battles nice for when I'm having a bad mental health day and want to play a game that is cute, but isn't something like stardew and also wont frustrate me. I definitely agree that there are a lot of missed opportunities to add interesting gameplay into it regarding raising the monsters ( I absolutely refuse to call the monsties) and a deeper storyline (why not dive into why both hunting and riding is problematic???). At the end of the day, I really hope this becomes a long-running companion series to monster hunter itself.
Ngl I hate English narvirou, every time I try fighting a deviant or something in the monster dens all I hear is “My paws are tingling” specifically that one phrase annoys me the most, like bruh I can see the dam monster in front of me
The thing I pissed off about is that they changed the entire damn landscape and added new regions and took away the original regions along with all the rare monsters are in just one place now apart from that it was kind of good but there are the same characters just aged up to adults you know cheval's there he's an adult now where is loot what happened what happened to his rathlus we have his original voices and his original look and even his name why do they keep on calling him the legendary champion why did they break up I'm so confused

Same! I really enjoy it. Got distracted by Zelda Skyward Sword but now that I’ve finished that I’m back to MHS2!
you have to be pawsitively clawdacious to play this game. :)
I feel the same way about it
Yes, They Are Both Great In Their *Own* Ways
Rise was trash
I like how they pretend how we are just knocking them out, but uh.... we get meat, and bones....
And still they can get up and run/fly away.
@sergiomartinezvillar9795 reminds me of bobs burgers they find out a dude is selling them horse meat and Tina gets mad and says they have to stop them, the horse is probably almost dead by now. Poor sweet innocent child

@@t1r1g0n I believe it was once said somewhere that Monsties only grow to 1/3 the size of their wild counterparts, but I always found that a bit suspect with Velocidrome and such, and I believe it’s been firmly retconned with Red and Guardian Ratha.

I loved the game, but Navirou was tough in english. I've changed the audio to japanese and it was way smoother and actually pretty cute.
I'm going to add the first he's "pawsitively clawdacious" comment I've seen
That always makes me wonder whether we find it less annoying simply because we don't know the language xD
I wonder if japanese players find him annoying too.

I am pretty much in the same boat, I thought the original was one of the best games released on the 3ds, even competing against zelda and mario
but I mean really, as a sequel, compared to the 3ds game, I was very happy with this release overall

I'll be playing this 2nd game in 5 - 7 years later because I do not have a Switch until then
Loved Monster Hunter Stories 2. I didn’t play the first one so I had no idea what I was walking into. It was a fantastic ride.
"Monster never changes attack"
Then theres me fighting a Rathian in the first game and deciding which attack to use that will end mostly wrong ang killing your character in 1 or 2 hit.
Same! I prefer stories 2 predictability by far!
lol. rathian always do speed so most of the time use tech. this is true even in high rank.
Absolutely loved this game, and it lasted me a long time too. This felt like what Sword & Shield should've been.

Unfortunately the story in the 1st game is basically Naruto meets How To Train Your Dragon
Literally I can count 5 or 6 scenes that happen from those 2 anime and movies that happens in the game as well. The dynamic of main character and Cheval is exactly the same as Naruto and Sasuke. Leilia is just Sakura
I'd rank it in A. 9/10
How so the combat system is completely different from Pokemon.
@@naylisyazwina6836 the story is very different bro
10:32 You didn't even mention half of the mechanics, like double attacks, type-less skills that aren't part of the power-speed-technical trio, AOEs, monsters that attack multiple times a turn, monsters that use all 3 types starting about halfway, instant-wins when you get higher level, your monsti's skills, etc..
It doesn't exactly 'evolve', but it definitely expands as more mechanics are used more frequently.
instant win was a godsend, farming has never been better, just find the monster you need and that's it!

Did your phone just autocorrect Navirou to Navi? If so, YOUR NERD IS SHOWING.
I’m loving this game. Am I the only one who doesn’t mind Navirou, even with English audio? I think he is so cute!
You. Just you. He was fine until the donut joke. Then I was done
After hearing him in this review, I'm VERY happy I kept the game in weebspeak. Navirou at least sounds somewhat endearing in JP.
The donut thing was too far but the rest of the time I just treated it like a Saturday morning cartoon and it was great lol
As someone who also loves Teddy from Persona 4…I kinda love Navirou.
Honesty I think navirou is purrfectly fine, like I dont understabd why meowst people hate him so much :/
I'm hoping if there'd be a Stories 3, they'd add a character placement/movement mechanics similar to Divinity: Original Sin.
250 hours into the game and still playing.
dang you beat my 170+ hours approx. by a whole minute, props. good luck in pvp and Riiiide on!
Not being able to train and level up the monsters feels like such an obvious missed opportunity that it's almost as if it wasn't included by mistake.
I don't like when people over simplify the story, cause really you can do the same to almost all JRPG stories. And honestly most stories are rather simple outside of one or two sudden twists. But honestly most JRPG stories are Bad things happen, hero gets chosen, hero gets stronger, and hero saves the day.
I mean, that’s a bare bones description of tons of games, not just Jrpgs
@@kennethchong3722 a world destroying monster is pretty bad
@@usscolumbia6149 Because that criticism *can't* be used for any game, like you said. You can try and say it for the Kingdom Hearts games, but that'd be crazy, everyone knows how complex that story gets (for better or worse). Same for the Mass Effect games, and a ton of other ones. A game doesn't need a full story to be fun, though I'd definitely expect a good (or at least complex) story from a game with Story in the name.
1) The developers love Navirou. They are happy people don't hate him in this game. I personally still think he sucks, but he sucks less than the previous game (I did not play in English, I would not do that to myself)
2) The story feels SO SIMILAR to the first game - I often got this strange confusion as to who the Red was.
I love the format of the video with you sitting in front of a green screen, talking about what’s happening on the screen behind.

That said. The game would be SO MUCH BETTER if that cat never existed.
I don’t know why they had to have the WORST part of the first game in this but at least he didn’t speak English so they were more tolerable.

I loved this game! I switched to original audio though after playing demo. I would most definitely not finish the game with English voices...
I blame nintendo for that.

kinda wish we had an exclusive look on the rathalos wings. they're basically same aside from the scales being black, the wings having a different pattern, the eyes looking night blue and the chest being a bit more detailed.

It took me hearing 2 lines of Navirou's English voice before I instantly changed to Japanese, and never looked back. The Japanese voice is far better, and I didn't have any complaints for the rest of the cast either.

I love Monster Hunter, but I gotta admit that the way monsters are treated in this franchise is pretty fucked up once you stop to think about it
"Pawsitively Clawdacious" Thats Right, I love the game so much, It was first introduced to me by a friend of mine, when I first got my hands on my friends copy of the game, I never wanted to let go, It was just plain good.
Keep it up. :)

As a person who literally knows nothing about this series, except that it’s pretty popular among certain people, I have to ask.
Can you customize your character with different outfits? And will I be completely confused if I choose this as my intro to the series? This game looks so cute and right up my alley.
monster hunter stories is very different from regular monster hunter gameplay wise, if you like pokemon then this is the game for you.

Pawsitively Clawdacious! I recently got into MH and this one looks like such a good addition to the series. I hope to try it out!
on the DS the monsters had a pattern like two technicals and the one power attack, so you had to pay more attention to the battles. And these patterns changed when they were mad
I don’t think there’s a pattern now, but they do switch up when they are mad
pawsitively clawdacious! it looks like a interesting and fun game, thanks for the video :)
I wanted nothing more than to punt that stupid cat into the shadow realm
I'm not sure if it's just me, but I actually enjoy navirou. He's hilarious with his cat puns and interactions with the poeple around him, the only annoying thing about him is that he has to talk when you enter the nest area of the den or you get too close to the riding skill areas
I think it's just us buddy, because everything else seems to hate him and I don't know why.. I enjoy him for the same reason you do
I like him too especially in the first game.
And so the most surprised moment for me was actually the last cutscene where my character actually calls his monstie, after not uttering a single sound for the entirety of the game
in the first game? yes that was actually really cool! Being able to SPEAK FOR YOURSELF *looks at navirou*
(I looked at a walkthrough to see how far was left)
And yes the Cat puns do get old after the 5th time, luckily there is the skip battle if your high enough level over the wild monsters (which is good for farming parts)
A lot of pokemons state that they like fighting and some even dare you to catch them or jump in the pokeball by themselves, i dont think the "monsties" ever want to be orphans
@@caquita402 but they'll never know that
But there are instances of monsters bonding with humans naturally like ranmar,mhst1's ratha, frostfang, and possibly redans rathalos as he was the first true rider. So really all except ranmar are/were wild monsters that decided to hang around.
@@rerega3177 guess i should know more about the lore before opening my mouth. That sounds nice
@@caquita402 don't blame you as its very uncommon especially ratha's as he hatches right in front of you without a kinship stone.but mhst doesn't have much in the way of lore outside of the razewing legend and redans legend so I hope they expand on it in mhst3.
While I did enjoy the main story and all, I actually really started to enjoy the game even more during the post-game!
There is actual post game? Nice
Saw your tweet that this video wasn’t doing well so came to check it out. It’s really well done and funny.
Come on all you guys need to leave Naviru alone he's pawsitivly clawdacious and just trying to help! Man monster community just doesn't like characters that talk and stick around huh?
Seriously, I don't understand it. Him and the Handler are burned at the stake by the community
@@WolfanTerror very true
Im imagining Wood, looking back at this or any other video and say, "Why am I always shouting". Don't worry Wood awesome video, and I like ur energizing and enthustiac personality. Awesome review, I been curius about this game
Well this video was pawsitively clawdacious!
I didnt know this existed til E3 when the second one was shown. Now it's most of what I play on the go and I made sure to get the second one too for when im done.
You mean stories 1 when your done?
1:31, and here I was thinking he was genuinely in the room the whole time
I hope kove and these other companies are lining your pockets man because you're ads are the only ones on youtube that makes me actually want to buy the product. No matter how unrelatable it is to me
115h in, I can't stop. Please send help, this game is too good!
One doesn’t experience self-transcendence, the illusion of self only dissipates🎈
Waiting for my copy to arrive in the next few hours. $40 on Amazon right now!
Sometimes I wished that Navirou would just. stop. talking. 🙂
his english voice is really annoying, i gotta admit that but his original japanese voice is so much better and cute! (^^)/\(^^)
Honestly I must be the only one who is perfectly okay with the English voice...
@@WolfanTerror I'm okay with the voice, I just don't like NAvirou in general xD Mhst 1 gave me this burning hatred...
Pawsitively Clawdacious!
I'll just tune out the parts that the cat speaks in.
I completely forgot how much I loved your video’s man! Great job!
Pawsitively clawdacious review!
Ngl I hate English narvirou, every time I try fighting a deviant or something in the monster dens all I hear is “My paws are tingling” specifically that one phrase annoys me the most, like bruh I can see the dam monster in front of me
Can we just appreciate how much time and effort that Wood puts in to these videos, it really pays off!!
The best turn based RPG released this year until Shin Megami Tensei 5 comes out.
Well done, Wood! This is really fun and funny! I also like the “sit beside the background video” style that you do as well.
