Nice to hear the other side of that story. The corruption is way too deep in Trinidad. May God's light arise within the minds of those who have thought it could be otherwise, and liberate us from the fear that seems to have control. God is !

His metaphorical analogy is accurate. And with that being said, using less discipline and still achieving desired results seems like a solid strategy in approaching anything. Quite a mouthful but it makes sense if you think on it.
Everything else aside and his past, This guy made a whole lot of reasonable sense here. It's only one video and he obviously has other opinions but this one video is better said about the situation in Trinidad then anything I've seen.

I was just in Morvant in April and I'm so happy to see that Vice is bringing attention to Trinidad. In my short visit being with family I felt safe but at night was a little nervous by the gun shots I could hear ringing out. Every morning reading the headlines of murder was a grim reminder of where I was. Everyone will tell you the same thing, "Trinidad has resources and money". The problem is that its bigger then Trinidad, the international drug trade that flows through the island is a world wide problem and cannot be simply cleaned up. Side note about Muslims in Trinidad, they are not your stereo typical extremist. When slaves were brought over from the east, Muslims, Hindus and others had to put aside their differences and work together for survival, along with the vast mixed population of people from all over the planet that still exist today.
I've always said that abu bakr is a ver charismatic leader, able to make the most determined men follow him after a few conversations. That being said, he was once one of the most dangerous men in the western underworld. While he makes a lot of sense in this interview, he also has to answer many questions with variations of the truth and always to make sure that he protects himself at all times during the questioning. Yes there was a lot of control by the jamat in the criminal underworld and they kept things relatively civil. But the also whiped out anyone who could oppose them. Yes they had the best intentions of cleaning up the country with their attempted coup, but they also had their own agenda. Not to mention they went about it completely wrong. It's not what you do, but how you do it. All this being said, the journalist may not have even realised how much danger he was in when abu bakr said "you are insulting my intelligence". Remember at all times, this man controlled the likes of powers, wolfy, wounded, malik, nigga, sappy and a host more of overlords, seasoned and skilled killers, and men with the means of overthrowing a country or rot it out with murderous crimes, rage and bloodshed to rival some of the most bloody ecounters in latin america. Had he not been involved in the underworld and crime, he would have been 1 hell of a politician.

Abu was exonerated of all charges after holding a coup in which multiple people lost their lives... Now, not only was he cleared of all charges that he mentioned in this interview, but he was paid a substantial compensation ($1MIL TTD+) by the Government.... Why??? He rightfully says he as the head of Jamaat, was in control of 'the ground' before the coup...which is curious, as I would think the TTPS would be in control to some extent... There's a lot more to this story... & if it comes out, a lot of ex & present Ministers & T&T businessmen (as well as Abu himself) will have a lot of awkward Qs to answer...

Ok as a citizen of Trinidad and Tobago I have something to say on the matter. Firstly if Abu Bakr is innocent as he claims to be, how did he get the guns to "police" the streets and form a coup. Guns are not manufactured in Trinidad nor were they cheap to get in mass numbers. Now I'm not saying he's the only one who was involved in the coup as ministers were conveniently missing that day. But he is free today because of a forced amnesty at gunpoint in Parliament.
You know your opinion should be heard. Listen to this what about now in 2019 ? The deaths, the rapes, The drug dealing in the poorest regions of the country. He isn't reponsible for this last 15 teen years of lawlessness. The politicians are allowing hundreds of thousands of Venezuelans in the island illegally. Thats for the prostitution to go hand in hand with drug use. That brings tourism!!!!! Wake up! Ya sleep! Dont let them distract you.
Wow I cant believe some of the ridiculous comments ppl have posted. what is more important here is to read between the lines (for the trinis). this was a dark time in our history. I myself was six at the time and still don't understand why it happened and why the state chose to sign amnesty with Bakr and not persecute him but when this came out it was clear that drugs have been a big part of our economy and that 1990 was indeed the catalyst for where Trinidad is at this point in time. rampant with corruption, drugs crime and no resolve. people are struggling everyday to make ends meet and if your a nobody who doesn't know a somebody your arse is screwed. smh
I guess most people are not free minded like you, they only talk what they hear, have no understanding and never seek knowledge, that's the true meaning of the word NIGER, what a shame on them.

Rest in peace to all those whose lives were snatched from them... and my sympathies to their loved ones who are still mourning their loses to this day.
Trini bago the point he was making was that there was no actual coup. It was staged according to him. I’m not praising him and I’m not agreeing with him. I’m just saying that you seem to have missed the point.
His guys are some of the biggest criminals yet they praise him. Trinidad is in a mess because the people are allowing others to divide us by race. Abu Baker can’t play as if he was a rescuer because they’re one of the main groups contributing to crime. He’s full of it.

Can't help but wonder if there's anything behind him being let out for that coup. I heard him before on radio and he's a convincing man and high charisma. High potential to lead this country if *had he* decided to follow the law and be elected.
they definitely gon rig the elections, no way them corrupt men Dem letting him win. it was either he took it by force which he tried or he just let things be which he's doing right now
are ANY of you ppl commenting Trinidadians? Have yall lived in this country post the Coup? Are any of you commenting lost family and/or friends due to Abu Bakr's actions? ................... *crickets.... Thought so.....setta myopic keyboard thugs.
***** well parts of what he left out is that the Jamatt mosque had bands of armed thugs that where involved in the drug trade, now weather or not he authorized these activities is still unknown but there where many a war between them and many other sects. The thing is that in the 90' most gangs where neighborhood gangs, so every area had its own crew who controlled the drugs in that area, the Muslims came in and tried to police these gangs. This was met with complete scorn, as it should. Another problem was that most of the people that joined the mosque where criminals who joined because they had so many guns available. Back then guns where scarce. The Muslims where met with heavy resistance to the point where gunfights started breaking out on sight. Add to that the fact that most of Abu Bakr street team was "reformed" criminals, they used their new power base to take over drug territory, again heavy resistance. When the Coup happened the Muslims weren't as organized as they thought because it was the Army, the Police and the neighborhood gangs VS. The Muslims and they where severely outnumbered. I know personally that this is part of the reason that so many guns hit the streets, the Muslims where abandoning cars full of guns in John John, Gonzales, Cariniage, Bethom estates, Lavantill...we found to abandoned cars full of guns and ammunition and emptied them out. The result was that the neighborhood gangs where now armed to the teeth. The muslims didnt necessarily "give up" controll of the streets, it just became a fair fight and much to dangerous. Im out of time for now. But I will say this, maybe his intention was good but he didnt have the control that he thought he did, and the amount of guns that where thrown into the worst area's during the coup is directly connected to the explosion of gun related violence in the country ever since.
I don't know what your "slant" I gonna be but when I was in the US Army, our standard issue "firearms" where 20 years old so its possible. Drop the other foot so I can give you a real answer please.
lol...the part where he called him a jew because of his nose is hilarious. lol. that was so left field. Anyway..how the hell are people finding it hard to understand what he's saying? he's speaking clearly. Listen closely and you're good.
i think he is innocent and what he did is the right thing to do he was exposing criminals in power and corruption in government i don't believe in his religion but he is a man of faith and i respect that ,it was a really great interview anyways " vice rules"
It's easy to think he is innocent when you just see him speak during a video uploaded to TH-cam. The man is a gang leader and back then he had the means to and did take control of the country. It didn't end where he took the government, many innocents were killed and he destabilised the entire country. He was no innocent. He had his motives and they may seem justified but one video does not absolve him of the crimes he committed and the ones he is committing to this day.
Josh Sammy yes josh u are so right...this man is a gang leader same way..he seems so believable and innocent.I remember when they tried to take down d country,my mom an dad had to hide us under the beds from all the gun fire,we were ordered not to leave our homes as they shot they prime minister...if you did'nt experience this first hand then u don't know the dangerous capability of this man and his organisation...and even tho they got amnesty I'm very happy that they got took to court to pay the bills for a burnt down city...yes restoring order back to a country is one thing but the price of death anarchy and instability is very bad,it brings turmoil
Heres how I here it someone he knew witnessed a crime that was done by people in power in the government she tried to report it after telling him what she saw and she was murderd he decided to make a citizens arrest of the people who were a part of the crime she reported to him I dont know all the details but I think that thats the right thing to do ..you have the right as a citizen of the united states to make a citizens arrest I dont know the laws there but they may be simular ? , I dont care if shots were fired because I dont have any sympathy for criminals "live by the gun die by the gun" sorry you had to hide or duck for cover but doesnt that happen normally with gangsters running your streets ? Personally I think all drug dealers and gangsters should be murderd on site they are just parisites feeding off the weak and poor and addicted ruining peoples lives , we all have a right to our opinion and this is mine also remember the news media in your town is bias to the drug criminals ie police air port sercurity dea oil tycoons political scum so they are going to spin the media to make a muslim a terrorist " im not a suporter of extremists " but I think the guy is not a bad guy
I don't have any background on this; but, just from this interview, Bakr makes fairly good sense to me. I don't see where Sharia law should be implemented, but if what he says is true (and I know that's a big if), he seems to be the better candidate for governance.
The fact is, no little poor boy in the back of John John, Pashley Street, Hell Yard possesses the money to get narcotics on the streets of T&T. Someone/ someones are getting the drugs into the country and then distributing it to these young men and women because they are struggling to survive. The disparity of wealth is such that the divide is so HUGE, the discontent as he says, will come to a head. A holistic problem on the streets and homes of Trinidad. Such a beautiful island. Nice to hear the other side of that story. The corruption is way too deep in Trinidad.
May God's light arise within the minds of those who have thought it could be otherwise, and liberate us from the fear that seems to have control. God is !

It's sad a beautiful country is crumbling with crime and drugs, something must be done, just can't sit back and watch. As a film producer, I am working on a project about this problem Trinidad is facing.

His metaphorical analogy is accurate. And with that being said, using less discipline and still achieving desired results seems like a solid strategy in approaching anything. Quite a mouthful but it makes sense if you think on it.

True but it is one sided.

True but the other side isn't doing a lot lot of good, His side is at least accurate. I'm not referring to his religious side, That side of him is fucked as with any religious side to anyone ever lol. His political ideology however is right on. Oh my
I get that but in my opinion there has never been this type of act where innocent people wouldnt have been affected aswell and that’s just unavoidable. I don’t think we should judge the man just based on that

Believe it or not but my grandfather trained Abu bakr to be a police officer
Extra judicial killings
For real. This man brought so much pain for so many families. And now he gets to gloss over it with a smile.

It's how in 2018 we are seeing what he's talking about
How ironic I'm watching this July 27th, 2020
I like this guy. Religion is good for helping the downtrodden and weak members of society and seeking social justice. But Religion becomes bad when it has too much political power. Religion should stay at the grassroots level.

Sorry dude i don't believe in hell or heaven. I am an agnostic. You are entitled to your stories about the afterlife. i am from Singapore. We have a sizable muslim community here. ***** Lol, western culture is spreading to eastern countries like an uncontrollable fire. Why? Simply because it's better. "Especially in Islam you cannot split politic and religion because they both work together to create peace and harmony in a state."
***** I don't agree with what your saying but even I could have put across your argument in a much more coherent manner. You mention Egypt, Libya, Ukraine and Germany and I have no idea what point you were making
Kaelyzz "Lol,western culture is spreading to eastern countries like an uncontrollable fire. Why? Simply because it's better."
no stop lying to yourself the only reason western culture is spreading is organized violence and corporations. Even then its not spreading like fire like you say.
One of the best convos i have ever seen ...
I grew up on negative stories about this man. Seeing this video for the first time. May his soul RIP
Wow I cant believe some of the ridiculous comments ppl have posted. what is more important here is to read between the lines (for the trinis). this was a dark time in our history. I myself was six at the time and still don't understand why it happened and why the state chose to sign amnesty with Bakr and not persecute him but when this came out it was clear that drugs have been a big part of our economy and that 1990 was indeed the catalyst for where Trinidad is at this point in time. rampant with corruption, drugs crime and no resolve. people are struggling everyday to make ends meet and if your a nobody who doesn't know a somebody your arse is screwed. smh

Rest in peace to all those whose lives were snatched from them... and my sympathies to their loved ones who are still mourning their loses to this day.
Trini bago the point he was making was that there was no actual coup. It was staged according to him. I’m not praising him and I’m not agreeing with him. I’m just saying that you seem to have missed the point.

mark daniels Stop spreading your racism . Where ever you’re from I can say don’t trust y’all.

I could verify much of what he said. Ask me, I could tell stories. And I knew him personally.
Dirk Antoine hmmmmzz sounds more legit lolzzz u look like u kno yo stuff
I don't know what your "slant" I gonna be but when I was in the US Army, our standard issue "firearms" where 20 years old so its possible. Drop the other foot so I can give you a real answer please.
Interesting,
really interesting stuff. why wouldnt the muslims destroy the guns instead of "giving" them to the gangs?
That interviewer ask questions in a detective manner patiently and picking when to.
No charges stuck because of the amnesty which was offered, but presently charges can now be pressed because that ruling has since been overturned.

i think he is innocent and what he did is the right thing to do he was exposing criminals in power and corruption in government i don't believe in his religion but he is a man of faith and i respect that ,it was a really great interview anyways " vice rules"
The boston tea party was a terrorist act

I don't have any background on this; but, just from this interview, Bakr makes fairly good sense to me. I don't see where Sharia law should be implemented, but if what he says is true (and I know that's a big if), he seems to be the better candidate for governance.

Someone/ someones are getting the drugs into the country and then distributing it to these young men and women because they are struggling to survive.
