    I wish that the demand for British sea food was bigger by our own population which in turn would encourage more Fish Shops to open and re-open, they seem to be disappearing which is sad. My family love fish and sea food. I’m a big skate and bass fan, smoked eels, fresh octopus, squid, clams, cockles muscles, scallops and crab (cromer Crab is soooo good!). Our seas seems to be emptying so rapidly, beach fishing is harder and harder. Maybe British seas need a complete rest (keep out the French, Spanish and Chinese, would help).

    Without wishing to appear to be a "brown nose," I have to say Bailiwick Fishing is, in my honest opinion, the very best fishing channel broadcasting out of Guernsey. Keep it up, Neil👍
    This channel really should have in excess of 50k subscribers.

    All the skippers i sailed with would have given you an ear bashing for sorting fish with one hand 😆 you should try it up here off Shetland with 3 crew sometimes getting 20=50baskets of cod , haddock,whiting,skate,prawns,ling,coalfish etc for 4hr tows sometimes you hadnt even cleared the deck and the next shot was coming aboard non stop 24hrs a day for 12 days straight then you got sat sun home! It was hard work but good £ and the only job i truly loved as everytime you lifted the net you were excited!!

    Just stumbled across this vid. I must say bloody hell, watching it brought back some memories with all the sights & sounds, & even the various smells. Good to see a young'ish chap as yourself entering into the industry. I'm medically retired from work, especially trawling, knackered spine. If I could I'd do it again. I worked on various size vessels, but mainly around the under 10m like yourselves. Dash good show old young'en.

    I always prefer Seine's netting than trawl netting, that way you know the fish that will be returned will be alive and there is no sea bed damage

    • @jmca3324
      @jmca3324 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Total nonsense , clearly you've no idea how seining works .

    • @southerneruk
      @southerneruk 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jmca3324 I should do, I have done it enough times. Seine netting the fish surrounded, and the bottom is closed, leaving the fish swimming around in circles, from there you can use a fish pump or use a scoop net.

    • @jmca3324
      @jmca3324 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Here in Uk seiners shoot hundreds of fathoms of seine rope in a semi half circle , then the net , then same amount of rope in another semi half circle arriving back at the dhan attached to the end of the first load of coils of swine role shot.
      Then attach both ends to swine net winch and haul like blazes while towing ahead , the ropes scrape along the bottom herding fish into the middle where the net is being towed and if everything goes to plan they're caught .
      Both net and ropes scrape the bottom much like a trawl .
      Pumping fish on-board is a pelagic fishing method here in UK , pelagic being midwater fishing . Hopefully that explains the confusion.

    • @southerneruk
      @southerneruk 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jmca3324 You have said what I just said, you surround and area then close in making the area smaller, after that it's a case of getting the fish aboard, which it's done by a pump or net dipping, you can not lift the whole net and fish into the boat.
      Then you have drift netting, which is even closer to what you describe, and then there is gill netting and Trammel netting.
      Will give you a clue, SU104

    • @jmca3324
      @jmca3324 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@southerneruk No , a seine net has a cod end same as a trawl , the splitter on the cod end splits the catch , if there's more than one lift , into manageable amounts,. What you're describing is purse netting .
      I,m a twin rig skipper . 2x 60ft reduced wing hopper nets , spent half my career working alongside seiners , there's almost none left .
