This is what I think about the Snow Golem:
The Snow Golem is the Player's creation, not created to defend, but to be a friend.
It is around the same height as a player! The Carved Pumpkin it wears over its head symbolizes that it is happy on the inside, simply to exist.
It throws Snowballs to try and defend you, because it wants to protect you, even if Snowballs aren't that effective.

    What about blazes?
    - Their sounds are metallic in nature, down to the breathing, that sounds as though it's happening via a mechanical pump, rather than lungs.
    - Their existence clearly relies on supernatural principles, what with the core obscured by smoke and rotating rods around it, as well as the charged fireball attack that requires gathering heat and has a cooldown.
    - The material they're built from is inorganic, and totally uniform, with no organs or anything else suggesting that they have biological functions
    - They only occur in Nether Fortresses, where they spawn from spawners

I’d like to imagine that the villagers hiding their hands is some superstition among them that they would be cursed or something if they didn’t. They believed it so much so it became a religion and they would pass it down to their children so they would continue the legacy of arm folding.

    • @maniacalmurderer4123
      @maniacalmurderer4123 2 ปีที่แล้ว +16

If we want to go into greater detail what if the illagers were the non-believers people who were logical and didn’t base their knowledge off of superstition and were of course outcasted. Maybe the reason their skin turns to an ashy grey is them slowly distancing themselves from their religion? Nah, that wouldn’t make sense. Just a superstition.

    Isn’t the wither a golem?
It’s creation is a point to support this although the wither skeleton skulls must also somehow influence its creation. Perhaps just as soul sand creates the power for the wither and the faces release it, maybe the iron/prismarine/snow/whatever the ravages use either power the different golems or are imbued with power by the faces.

My headcanon as to why illagers were shunned: They were aggressive, simple as that. The villagers have thrived as a merchant society that would sooner offer trades that attempt to fight anyone that might cross their path. The only time they're ever "mean" is when they mark up their prices in retaliation for abuse or when their iron golems catch you hitting them. Having aggressors in their ranks that would rather ransack other settlements instead of opening trade routes or simply visiting is a no go in their society.
However I also see illagers as a sign things are changing. The illagers are very much looking foward to conquering territory, which probably means society in the Overworld is far enough removed from whatever apocalypse erased the civilization that created the ruins and monuments, and thus there's groups that, with enough time and influence, could set up an empire once more.

    • @tanjeeschuan4999
      @tanjeeschuan4999 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

Illagers also seem much more inclined to experimentation and exploration, as seen with their golem experiments and the fake end portal rooms in their mansions.

  • @patchworkfellow4262

What interests me are the Golems’ _personality._ There is often a noticeable difference between the different species, be it the Iron Golem’s fervent protectiveness, the Ravager’s hatred, or the Snow Golem’s simplicity. What if that’s just because of how they’re _made,_ and the environment into _which_ they’re made?
For instance, Villagers - the Iron Golem-makers - are simple-minded (which an Iron Golem arguably is, having limited thoughts aside from the protection of Villagers), kind and tight-knit in general. This can also be seen in the Iron Golems as they have an almost one-track mind, are very caring (so long as you don’t attack them or the Villagers) and can be seen giving flowers to baby Villagers, which seems to be a thing only people tight-knit groups would do.
As for Ravagers, it’s simpler; their anger and hatred against Villager-kind is a _reflection_ of the Pillager-subspecies’ similar rage and hatred. Looking at their faces, Ravagers always seem contorted by rage, and literally _race_ to attack; a sign of a poisonous and bloodthirsty fervour, generally.
For Snow Golems, it’s a bit more difficult - but still explainable. Their one-track mind and somewhat gormless-seeming nature can simply be attributed to their primitive design, but their neutrality to everything (save for hostile mobs) and _newness_ to the world could represent the Player, who’s often the one to make them; no matter the Player’s intention, their outward impression is always neutral and unchanging, so it would make sense that their “child” of sorts (the Snow Golem) would emulate that. As for Iron Golems built by the Player still acting like Villager-built Golems, that could be as simple as a long-standing race-memory; if a species has had the same personality for _so long,_ it would make logical sense that they could be “born” that way.
Guardians are interesting. If we use the logic that they are artificial beings created by the Builders millennia ago, it wouldn’t be unfair to say that they might not have been designed to work that long. They might have gone _insane._ However, nature will often trump madness, and so their instinct to protect their Temples would remain, albeit twisted so intensely that they simply attack _anything_ that goes near, even Squids and Axolotls; this could also explain why Axolotls attack Guardians; perhaps it’s an ancient, species-spanning attempt at pre-emptive self-defence?

In his quasilore video minecraft abnormals proposed that water in Minecraft represents preservation and loyalty as it slows down mining, nullifies all explosions, and the trident literally has an enchantment called loyalty. I feel like the builders weren’t one culture and like the villagers would differ depending on biome hence the vastly different architecture. I feel like the guardians would represent the builder culture tied to the water in that they’re fiercely loyal to them and since the builders wanted them to protect the monuments that’s what they’ll do to the extreme preventing anyone but the builders from entering. In a way the guardians are attempting to preserve the monuments.

I'm still onboard with the theory that Ravagers were once Villagers (or heck, maybe Illager "volunteers") that the Illagers experimented on to turn them into beasts. They have the same face and (most importantly) they have the same eye color. They don't have golem eyes, they have emerald green eyes like that of the Villagers and Evokers. Their sound effects also sound like modified Villager and Pillager grunts. Additionally, they're covered in chains, implying they have been enslaved or being controlled (they also don't drop anything other than the saddles they wear on their backs... just like Villagers and Pillagers, and unlike the Golems which drop the thing they are made of).
Also, during development the Ravagers were going to be afraid of rabbits as a joke... but they removed that easter egg because it interfered with the lore of the Ravager. Villagers and Pillagers wouldn't be afraid of a harmless rabbit, because they know what they are already.
You're definitely right about the parallels to the Iron Golem though. The Ravagers are basically foils for them, the yin to their yang. And the Illagers do seem obsessed with creating their own artificial life, so it checks out.

I have a theory that the wandering trader is actually a nitwit. Y'know the ones that don't trade with you. I think that villagers kicked a nitwit out for not being like the others and actually trading. So that nitwit with no other choice, decided to _wander_ the world. (maybe even the nether considering wandering traders can sell Glowstone) While wandering, the nitwit found various biomes and various items in those biomes. Eventually they ran out of space to store those items so they either traded them or found llamas to store more items on, Idk which first.
Another little bit of evidence to support all this is that if you look at a wandering traders robes, underneath all those robes is a bit of green. The same green as a nitwits robes, which implies that the nitwit tried to mask themself as much as possible to hide the fact that they're a nitwit.

    Great video!
Here’s a theory: What if shulkers are golems too? In various versions of the game code, they have been referred to as “ender_golems.” Also they share many similarities some of these other “golems,” especially guardians. Not only do they have unibrows, but they share the same boxy shape that makes them look like part of the structure they are guarding. They also have a similarly weird attack compared to the guardian. If the ravages can be seen as the counterpart to the iron golem, I think it’s fair to say that the shulker is the counterpart to the guardian.

      @childish4487 2 ปีที่แล้ว +21

potentially that was the original idea, but they are there own species as of 1.17 as they were given the ability to reproduce. It is interesting to look at the links between shulkers and guardians though, both appear similar to the structures they spawn in, both have the ability to reproduce (as shown by guardians spawning even after raiding a temple). Both shoot some kind of projectile that locks on to the player and both can affect the player with potions.
Another point against guardians being standard golems is the fact that they age and grow as evident from the elder guardians.
So what if there was a more advanced form of artificial life? One that could more closely emulate life and reproduce without more being made?

Or perhaps the golems were given so much life and were created so intricately that they evolved the ability to reproduce or change over time.
Or perhaps reproduction was a convenient trait that the "Builders" or whoever gave to these creatures so that the golems breaking down, going insane, and/or getting killed would be less of an issue in the future.

This opens possibilities to another kind of golem: the truly alive one.
As Guardians could be classified as a mid-term, Shulkers would be "truly alive".
Another species could also be classified as a truly alive golem: the Villagers.
Imagine: they are not full of technological advancement, but are somewhat intelligent; they can build "pseudo life". They have the mono eye-browns (my only evidence, by now).
The Illagers might have left the villages because they discovered the truth, and they disregards for the Villagers is that: for them, Villagers are only golems, and without recognizing it, can't be "truly alive".

You know, the iron golems don't just bear a resemblance to the villagers. With their height and long arms they also somewhat resemble endermen, especially considering that they both attack in a similar fashion, a upward strike with their arm.
Perhaps the endermen helped to construct the first iron golems for the villagers, they seem to have some understanding of faces considering their attitude towards the player wearing a carved pumpkin.
One interesting detail is that iron golems will attack endermen on sight, even though they are normally peaceful unless provoked. Perhaps the iron golems are too protective? Maybe the iron golems sense ill intent towards the villagers from them, or perhaps there is a bad history between the endermen and villagers.

    • @imogengr4073

there is also a theory that the ancient builders could have been the endermen we have today which would also make your theory prove more sense, perhaps the endermen once looked like the player, 2 blocks tall, shorter arms, different colour etc. maybe when getting trapped in the end the endermen adapted to that lifestyle and over years and years started to shape differently and colour differently. i saw a comment before saying the enderdragon may not have always been black, and she has adapted to that colour to defend from the cold in the end, the same theory could go for the endermen. maybe as the endermen look so different the golem cannot recognise it as the ancient builders they used to be and attack instead

Before I watch this video, I want to make my own claim.
I think that the knowledge/magic needed to make golems is known only to the Ancient Builders (I think Steve is a descendant). Village iron golems were constructed long ago to protect the villages of the world, as Guardians were created to protect the Ocean Monument (and they perhaps have self-replication).

    • @vadernation1233
      @vadernation1233 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

While I’m not agreeing with them being golems I think we can work off of this. Maybe why we can’t construct them is because their construction methods are too dark or too complex for the player. They look fleshy so it could be possible they used meat or live animals to create the raveger something that we couldn’t do as that’s too cruel. As for the guardians they’re the only golem to have one eye the others have two. I think the pumpkin needed might’ve been carved different perhaps super intricately to the point where carving it in any other way would be impossible for us. It could explain why the guardian is by far the most advanced golem as the others are simple like the face carved in the pumpkin. Maybe the more advanced of a carve the more complex you can make a golem.

In my option there are 1, maybe 2, golems that betrayed their creators. The Wither and possibility the Warden. But I lean more towards the warden not being a golem. But I do think the deep dark and Nether are connected, maybe the End too.
The Wither, in my opinion, IS a golem and not just some ancient evil creature that you summon to the world.
My theory is that the ancient builders might have been at war, a war that they were loosening.
    Story:
Back when the Ancient Cities were still inhabited, they had frequent contact with the Nether. Evidence of that being the soulfire lanterns and soul sand. And already being well established there, fortresses.
One day, by accident or otherwise, the builders found evidence of a 4th dimension. Probably the last, or second to last dimension they discovered. They built a portal at the heart of their cities, the portal's base doubling as a redstone testing area.
After a team returned fron journeying through, they revealed and started testing skulk sensors.
But one day, someone returned with something they'd never seen in the other dimension. A Catalyst. They tryed, and failed, to find a use for it. They discarded it somewhere deep in the caves, believing it was useless. The catalyst went unchecked for weeks or months. This allowed the catalyst to slowly spread skulk as it obsorbed soul energy, exp, from the mobs that parished nearby.
Eventually, it spread far enough to be noticed by the builders.
When a team was sent into the monster infested caves to investigate they discovered the catalyst as the source of the strange new blocks. They realised that when they beat a moster near one, the skulk spread and when they mined the skulk they received exp. To them this was a huge and exciting discovery, a way to store exp.
But that excitement was short lived, for a few unfortunate builders had descovered the Shriekers and set them off. By accident, they'd summoned the first Warden to the Overworld.
At first, they kept their distance. It didn't take long to realize that it was blind und picked up vibrations like a sensor could. But one foolish builder wanted to see what would happen if they attached it.
In seconds, they were a man down, faced with an enraged warden and setting off more shriekers. Soon, the whole team was wiped out and respawning back at their city. They warned their city leader(s), tried to come up with was to stop the skulk's spread, and defend against the warden, but they were in way over their heads. They closed the portal, warned other cities and tried to soundproof their city with wool and carpet, but they were soon overwhelmed.
They likely tried using the iron golems they made alongside ancient villagers, but that didn't work. (I believe the ancient builders and villagers had some form of alliance. And maybe with the piglins too.)
Defeated, but not ready to give up, the builders fled to the nether. After some time, they had made a new, stronger type of golem. The Wither.
They returned to the Overworld, ready to take back their home. But soon, they realized their wither(s) were unstable. Not just attacking the warden, but the builders too. After a while, the withers ignored the warden and went after the builders. As well as any other living mob in the area. Now, they had 2 strong and deadly enemies to deal with.
After dispatching the last wither, now having to deal with destroyed cities and no closer to fixing their warden problem, they returned to the nether. After hearing of the builder's defeat, the Piglins chaced the weakened builders back to the Overworld.
In the process of creating the wither the Piglins were hired as extra help in fighting wither skeletons and collecting their skulls. But over time the builders treated poorer and poorer. They received less gold, few proper traids from the builders and their mortality rate was steadily rising. At this point, they felt more like slaves then equal allies.
With nowhere else to go and believing the Overworld would soon become a lifeless wasteland of skulk, the builders turned to the End. The portal was built and lit, but the dimension sat unexplored due to the discovery of the skulk's dimension taking priority. So, they gathered all the supplies they could and fled to the End. Only a small team stayed behind to close the portal in order to prevent the skulk from possibly spreading there as well.
The ancient city ruins, golems and the wither paintings are all that's survived to tell this story.

There is some things that I believe are flawed with the iron golem theory, first of all, it states in the mobiestiery that villagers don’t spawn iron golems, they just appear, also, if the face of a ravager is supposed to look like and act like an illager, why do they look more like just a grey villager and why are there sounds more like a villager, also, if the illagers can just spawn a ravager, why don’t we see any evidence of them spawning ravagers? No evidence in the outposts, no evidence in raids, none in the mansions, nothing. Also, the pumpkin things in the pillager outposts are clearly scarecrows.

When I was making the model, I realised it was much harder to draw a texture for it - the larger it is, it gets more detailed. I absolutely love this video- I’ve been waiting for a content creator to address Minecraft’s magic of Golemancy! The concept that the Illagers were using the wool statues and pumpkin farms within woodland mansions to attempt to understand the creation of Golems adds some much-needed context to the most obscure of the rooms in the mansions.
The point made at the video’s end that the Villagers are unlikely to have developed the technology or understanding to construct the Iron Golems on their own, combined with the nature of Guardians, indicates that another culture developed Golemancy, the most likely candidate being the aptly named Ancient Builders discussed. I also believe there to be two other Golems within Minecraft not mentioned in the video- Blazes and Shulkers, which, while able to be infinitely generated in the world, fit the one major category for mobs that I consider Golems- they serve as protectors of something. Blazes, Shulkers, and Guardians all defend structures, while Iron and Snow Golems defend their creators. It’s also worth noting that the Minecraft code apparently labels Shulkers as “endergolems”.
However, I disagree with the notion that Ravagers are Golems for what could be interpreted as a significantly weaker reason: it has been canonically stated, though I do not offhand know the source of this information, that the Illagers were expelled from the villages for their unspeakable activities. In combination to the unibrow of the Ravager, the quote leads me to believe that Ravagers are not artificial life forms, but rather Villagers that have been forcefully converted into monsters. This likely would convince other Villagers to drive the Ravager’s creators into exile out of fear. That being said, I’m open to the idea that they are simply a form of Golem, thanks to the evidence provided in the video.
Finally, I’d like to propose there are three determining factors in the creation of a golem: their face shape, the materials they are constructed with, and the shape of their bodies. Perhaps the Ancient Builders, well-versed in Golemancy, understood it enough to consider it a trade or craft, and thus had the knowledge and resources to create all of the Golems seen in present-day Minecraft. They educated the pacifist Villagers, who retained the knowledge of Golem creation through the generations enough to remember the recipe, but not invent new ones. Even after they were cut off from each other by the Pillager Patrols, villages kept passing down the story of their defender, the Iron Golem, so that they may always have a savior to call upon during the terrifying night.

I have a little of my own lore how the ravager was made: The illagers knew that the villages had a Golem that they could not destroy, or they could not destroy with great difficulty. The illagers saw that the iron golem was a little similar to the villager, with their nose and unibrow. They decided in one raid after defeating the iron golem they would take the villagers to their mansions. They used the villagers as test subjects until they got something they did not expect, the ravager. The illagers stored the information how to convert a villager into a ravager in their libraries. The huge prison cell in the mansion was used for the experiment. That is my theory about the ravager.

Whats funny is that, Minecraft Story Mode (made by Telltale) in season 1 episodes 5-8 play off the theory that "ancient builders existed" and made minecraft, aswell had highly advanced technology such as travelling to other "dimensions" or "worlds"

Retro, will you do a video on the Ancient Cities and the Warden soon? I think there is a lot to unpack since the warden now exists in game, and the Cities seem designed with skulk in mind. Wool is included in many parts of the build, and skulk sensors are used to power lamps. The cities also feature a warden-inspired looking centerpiece, with what appears like a massive portal. Miniatures of the structure are called portal statues in the games code, and it seems to follow your pattern of hard materials and heat required to make portals. Soulfire is beneath the portals, and reinforced deepslate is one of the toughest blocks in the game, close to bedrock. I think there is definitely a lot to look at.
