The musical theatre vibe you get from her here is because she actually had a musical theatre background. You should check out her performances in Stages Sessions. She performed She Used to be Mine, Home and slayed Defying Gravity and two more songs. That's a 100% live and she ate those performances.

morisette tried to be consistent with the original so the intro was in lower register but not operatic like a baritone as chase did a bit exagerrated which is a lot different from morisette's approach . i'm baffled by melias observation about the onset that should have been with forward resonance otherwise thats not typical of you like you sound like some one else's voice . i maybe mistaken though but does forward resonance mean chest voice mix with nasal twang or the natural forward voice like singing a national anthem if morisette did that shed sound like a school girl singing a lullabye song that would sound monotonous . the original version was a bit dark and mellow she cant deviate from that . props to both of you tho when you break down salient points on how aspiring singers should make full use of their vocal instruments . putting all these aside i think chase clean cut aura might project a more commanding persona if only he'd stop shaving for a few months and let some whiskers make their statement .

It is always interesting to hear "technical" feedback on youtube from individuals who pick apart performances for the purpose of discussion or education which is a great service to their viewers. What I like to do is to then listen to their personal performance and or contributions to listen if they "practice what they preach." In this case, I encourage those who watch your channel to listen to your worship music found on your site. I'm curious if they'll find your performances "consistent" with the technical advice you provide in your commentary. For the sake of musicality and performance, after listening to your videos, I'm not convinced that the technical/constructive feedback your provide to others is fully applied to your personal performances. There seems to be a disconnect both in technique and overall musicality. To be honest, it was difficult to listen to the entire song without wanting to go to the next. I'm curious to know if others feel the same. Perhaps it's mainly to do with your vocal timbre that does not mix well. These are songs of conviction and testament. I think you can do a better job. Singing more with your hearts and not your head may be a good start. Best wishes. I hope to see new videos that display such.

I can’t stand them dissect this song and think that they are always right with their assessments.. Please try to listen to covers of the same song live and compare her to them.. look at the voice quality of those singers to her. The fact that they criticize voice crack because they don’t like the sound of it is insane.. It’s a personal choice of the artist respect it.. some people like it even the great Mariah Carey does it from time to time. But she was not even criticized for it..and she is considered one of the best singer of all time…think about that..Well if you want perfection in a song try a recorded version with so many alterations to make it sound perfect.. but the fact that she is singing this live and sounding this good to me is a feat in itself for me…Not so many singers these days can sound this good live..

Great points, Chase and Melia. I think people should not get so triggered by the constructive criticism that they gave. They only pointed out that Morissette’s first verse did not sound forward and she chewed on her vowels. That’s it. The rest of her performance was great and they complimented her.

Well🤷🏾‍♂️......That's her stylistic choice how to sounds good and beautiful and she's right... that's the most loved to her by many subscriber..use logic or commonsense guys think of the million views😅 mori isn't like other singers you used to...she broke the style of old school singing... whose diva now will you find all the good qualities that you want...clearly heard run and riffs, amazing low notes, a sustainable super power long huge high note and right enunciation of word lyrics, clearly heard...her emotions..the growls the squeaks angst attitudes that needed for you to feel it down deep in your heart and the beautiful whistle register that i loved most to her and last guys she managed her voice and breath with unbelievable control that's why so easy to her to sustain and reach those super belted high power long huge note😱wtf👏👏👏👏👏👏♥️👍

You guys talked about how difficult it is to sing at the back of her voice & how it is unnecessary. But we should consider how different each & every one of us specially with vocal mechanics. One that's considered uncomfortable by others might be the ease for her. In this case i think she's simply chaneling her theatrical background to stay true to the original whilst sprinkling a bit of her own color. Her vocal sounds naturally high resonant so she have to navigate her tool to touch those low notes in most comfortable way her tools allow her. Again, works for her but might be uncomfortable & unnecessary for both of you. And i just need to add, you mentioned about the vowel chewing but missed the very prominent consonant articulations. A very rare thing to modern pop artists. Fyi, i'm not a fan😅 just came across this video as i'm looking for some vocal references as prep for school performance. Don't come after me guys😅😂

Its is not just singing its is story telling. For Filipinos if you just sing with out emotions is not appreciated. If you have watch enough videos you will see she has different facade as the song requires.
She does not just hit the notes she brings out the emotion of the song and cascades the emotion to her audience.
