I find that once a brush is used a few times, it affects how my makeup looks. I am 63 and I need all the help I can get 😂 Would you do a video about foundatio? Silicone verses water-based, which is best for who or what? Application particulars, etc. Love your brushes!

Would love to see a video as well on silicon vs water based and which is better for skin type. Ive also heard you must use the same type of primer. How do you know if you use different brands?? Please help :)

Thank you so much Nikki !!! My toxic trait is buying new brushes because I am too lazy to wash them. Also been putting it off because I felt like I should invest in a brush cleaner. Now I know that I never needed it. Back in the days I also always used Dawn and good old olive oil. Going to take the time to get this task out the way this week. Thank you for always sharing your knowledge with us and FOR FREE!!! We are forever grateful for you . Every time I see a new upload from you, I feel like it’s such a treat . You are so amazing . We love you so much ❤❤❤

I do exactly what you do to clean my brushes except I use Ivory soap and I slways dry on a clean towel and I press and reshape every single brush and then I move them to a drier area of the towel so they dry faster but I do leave them to dry overnight. I have been doing this the same way for years and if you are careful with washing and drying your brushes, they will last for decades.

@@AudriannaB-World-Peaceme too, and it feels faster on cleaning vs using Dawn dish soap or dish soap in general. Cleans good and rinses out fast!

Love your artistry and channel, Nikki!! I’ve been binge watching your vids after I recently found you through Allie Glines!! Your pro tips have been so helpful to me already and renewed my interest in doing my makeup!
I have to tell you that your BK Pro makeup brushes are at the very tiptop of my Christmas list this year!!
When washing my makeup brushes, I only add two things to what you taught in this fabulous tutorial…
*First, after I squeeze water out of the clean brushes and check for soap, I also squeeze them with a microfiber towel to get as much water out as possible….
*Secondly, I do use an inexpensive WHITE washcloth (or any old towel) to further dry them and make sure that there is no makeup left in them!!!
Thank you for your sweet personality and sharing all your amazing talent with us!! 😊

The dr bronners liquid is a concentrate. I use the peppermint for hand soap and the unscented for hand washing delicates. You have to dilute it WAY down. I buy a full gallon of the peppermint for about $55 and that amount lasts two full years for hand washing. I have one foam pump in my bathroom that gets used 12-15 times a day and one in my kitchen that gets used 1-5 times a day. I buy the unscented in quart bottles for about $16 each and fill one of those 10oz continuous spray bottles. For both hand washing and delicates, I use 1.5 Oz of liquid soap and fill the pump/spray bottle (slowly! or it will foam up) with water from my fridge filter pitcher. The only time I ever used Dr. Bronners liquid undiluted was to clean up a pet accident on the floor. I can’t speak to anything regarding the bar versions, since I haven’t bought any (yet - I will check them out specifically for my makeup brushes).

  • @Rue994
    @Rue994 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

Bronners you can get at Marshals and TJ Maxx (and brush cleaner for spot cleaning and those brush pads for the sink) for a lot less and they always have a bunch of scents. Bar soaps I agree work way better. Shea Moisture bars work beautifully and the bars are huge, it’s affordable and it doesn’t leave that residue or suds you fight to rinse clean (especially at the base of the bristles.) Just trying to save y’all some money if you want any of these but don’t wanna pay such a steep price.😊 Bars though are the way to go, imo. The African Soap (black) of Shea Moisture I think does the best job breaking down foundation, concealer, liquid liner etc but they all work exceptionally well for that.

Nikki, your gorgeous frames reminded me of a video I will need soon, and I know others would love "How to do your makeup so it still looks attractive under glasses" especially evening & fun looks. My love of makeup had me not wearing my last pair and I eventually lost them. I really need to wear them though. I need more than "Wear a bold lip." We certainly have great frames these days but yeah, help!! ALSO, I have been using micellar water on my brushes lately to spot clean. I figure if it is safe for my face, it shold be OK for my brushes. Any thoughts? It certainly works well. It is jut for me, though. Zote is a laundry soap. I can't see that being OK for any brushes except synthetic, non fiber ones

It’s exactly the same technique as to clean brushes for artistic painting. I brought with me this black soap with palm oil (from France) for cleaning brushes which have been used with oil paints, after the turpentine cleaning. It’s not meant to be use for acrylic brushes. I suppose it would be harsh too on makeup brushes but it smells so good, I can’t find this same black soap here in USA. I will try the soap that you are showing and the dish soap too. I suppose that my Mrs Meyer’s dish soap is not antibacterial enough.

I’d love to see a video where you (or a viewer) chooses a makeup item and create a makeup look around it - berry lipstick, coral blush, etc.

How long does it take for the brushes to dry fully before one can use them again? You are the smartest makeup artist I have ever heard! Keep up the great job!

Hi Nikki! I had been neglecting my brushes for a week and a half so I finally washed them while watching this video 😂. What do you think about the mini soap bars from hotels to clean your brushes? I’ve used it plenty this year since I started doing my makeup, but I’ve always wondered if it’s too drying… 0 experience here. You said brushes will let me know with time BUT I really don’t want them to get to that point hahaha.
Thank you for all you do, it’s been really cool to learn to do my makeup from a makeup artist & teacher like you! ❤

emu oil bar soap I use for cleaning my hands and sponge and brushes. Then Dawn dish soap. I found helps with the eczema on hands and it cleans great. It's like $2.25 in Canada 🇨🇦 😊.

The best way to dry your brushes is with a brush tree. I've picked up one on Ebay for $10 or less and another one from the Dollar Tree. Hangs the brushes upside down and prevents water from collecting in the ferrule.

I use a brush tree too. I first use Dawn for harder cleansing brushes like foundation, concealer,, & lipstick. Followed by Zote soap. It's hasn't dried any of my brushes out. I'm not a rough on the bristles. The silicone pad helps to dislodge dirt particles. I find Zote soap gets all the synthetic dyes out of the bristles with less effort.

Dial bar soap(YELLOW!!) works the best for me! It breaks down anything easily especially lips and foundations that are more difficult to get rid off of brushes. It has to be the yellow one! Trust me on this one 😉

I've used Zote soap for yrs. It's never dried my natural fiber bristels out. It gets all the synthetic dye out too. I do use Dawn as a first step for foundation, concealer, or lipstick cleansing followed by Zote soap. I dry my brushes hanging upside down.

I use Irish soap bar and the same silicone mat as shown in the video, it gets the job done. For natural bristles I always use brush guards so the bristles won’t puff out when drying.
