I can't believe how Regina always retains that vividly magical hue in each of her songs. Her voice is so limpid and pure, it just lifts you to the point you're floating over space and time. Can't wait for the new record, it's been a while! What a wonderful artist she is
When she said... "Let the ones who want it bad get all the things that make 'em better, Let the ones who don't care feel a thrill" Literally made me shed some tears. So powerful.
Fun fact about these lines, she's taking inspiration from a very old russian song that she covered in one of the bonus tracks off "What We Saw from the Cheap Seats" called "The Prayer of François Villon (Molitva)." The song's verses ask that God give certain things to certain people. "Господи, дай ты каждому Чего у него нет/Умному дай голову/Трусливому дай коня/Дай счастливому денег/И не забудь про меня "God, give everyone what they don't have/Give the wise one a head/Give the coward a horse/give the happy one money/and don't forget about me" I love how in "The Prayer of François Villon" he's begging to not be forgotten, but here the speaker just wants "to ride." To me, it's a resignation to what she does get given and a trust that the ride will be what it's meant to. It's so beautiful to me to hear her influences coming out in this song. She's taking the art that made her her and spinning it into something all her own. For all my fellow lyric nerds out there I recommend you translate "The Prayer of François Villon" so that you can consider these lyrics through that lense. I feel so grateful to be able to know russian and wanted to share this little easter egg with everyone.

Can you try ways to meet new people...Meetup groups...volunteer work...attending book readings at libraries or bookstores etc? Also, when I feel alone, I like to think of nature as a 'friend'. Look up at the trees...feel the breeze...watch the clouds move... feed the birds...see the bees pollinating flowers...see the squirrels play... etc. All of nature, wild animals etc are 'alone', and yet One. And so too are we. We are all a part of this. And humans, unlike animals, can use their brains and creativity to come up with ways to become more engaged with their fellow humans. And if for any reason that doesn't work (maybe because of where you live, difficulty connecting with people etc) then try to focus on connecting with nature and doing some volunteering. ❤
I love Regina…always have. But this song hits me extremely hard right now, more than usual. Ive been dealing with overwhelming loneliness, despite being in a crowd of people. I find myself asking God “why isnt it getting better..”
I promise you that you aren’t the only one feeling alone. I don’t know if that makes it better or worse, but it isn’t just you. Hang in there. Try to find things that bring you joy on your own. Shared experiences are wonderful, but if you can’t have them at the moment, have some experiences for yourself. You deserve joy. Hang in there.
That line could be quoted a thousand times and every time, it hits me harder. Another two lines that are so impactful are "And I just want to ride, but this whole world, it makes me carsick. Stop the meter sir, you have a heart, why don't you use it?" From the get go, the title "Becoming all alone again" hits home because that's how it feels, it isn't just becoming alone, but becoming alone again each time.
Sometimes it seems that things were meant to never get better. Things should work out, there should be peace, less conflict, if we tried, one small step at a time, to do something better, with less suffering. However, it seems that this does not happen, and the way things usually evolve, this will never happen. I may be wrong. I hope so.
Hi, Regina. I don’t know if you’ll see this. However, my mamma just past away and so did my birthday (22). She knew I loved you since I was a very little boy. You’re the reason I made it into music school. You’re the reason I perform. I’m so happy my mamma was able to see you inspire me to be the artist I am today. I’m Maxximo.X on Instagram and I post to your photos sometimes. Thank you for being a light in my life. Thank you for creating and sharing. I ask god to let my mom stay, but I know she is happier in heaven. Thank you for being here at the right moments. Regina, you’re amazing. Thank you for all that you are. Love, Maxximo
Beautiful story but let the story be about you and your amazing journey. It's cool to praise our heroes, but let's not forget about the journey we make to get to where we are.
I would assume you and I are close to the same age, but the amount of things your music has gotten me thru is truly astonishing. From being in a bad relationship, to my dad dying, to become an addict, then getting clean, then another shitty relationship, then a child, and now being a single mom... your music has carried me all the way from high-school to 35. Well done. I appreciate you.
Is it just me or does this song have a whole new level of poignancy now? Aren't we all just in various stages of becoming all alone again? And, no, it doesn't get easier with time! But music and art can provide moments of relief amidst the pain of loss. Rest in peace Ilya. I hope Regina is finding some of the same comfort and peace she has given to all of us through her art during this time.
I like to think that even though were "all just in various stages of becoming all alone again," it's actually that were all just a part of a big mosaic or droplet of the ocean, trying to find ourselves in a mass were all connected to (for better and worse).
No puedo creer que hayas regresado. Estoy muy muy emocionado y contento. Una enorme sorpresa para mí. Adorarte muchísimo y tu música me transmite una paz hermosísima.
Oh my gosh, I literally just stepped out of the office to listen to this. I’ll risk unemployment at this point just to get more tunes from Mme. Rejinki. 💚
I downloaded over 400 songs on Spotify in 2022. This is, without a doubt, the best song of the entire year. Absolute high-quality singing, songwriting, chords, lyrics. You're a genius, Regina.
😭😭😭 Regina!!! How do you always manage to find the most tender parts of my soul, and lay them out with your signature combo of wit, story-telling, frank sincerity, and depth? Also, being raised on classical music and having played in many orchestras, I love the sweeping grandiose classical vibes. Especially juxtaposed with the simplicity of music during the conversation with God. Sometimes you feel so much, but there's very little to be said. Little words that mean everything, like, "Stay, stay, stay." For me, when I chase down all my emotions to the root, it always seems to wind down to the fact that I just want to be with God, and can rarely get as close as I'd like. Thank you for expressing this so beautifully. ❤️
I'd like to think so, but too few seem to know this outstanding woman and her voice. I guess the rest of us who have heard her will just have to do her uprising spirit justice!
It’s very moving to see so many fellow people in the comment section who feel the same about finding comfort and healing in her music 🥹 It makes me happy to see everyone appreciating her return
You’ve released a new album my first year of middle school, high school, college and now (hopefully) grad school! I take it as a welcome sign that your music is always there for me during new stages of life and I couldn’t be more grateful
Thank you. Your songs have been there in my darkest moments. This one hit me deep in the feels since I’ve felt lost for a few years now and kind of drifted off from my basic beliefs. Still fighting to get up everyday. Been thorough a lot of insomnia months and I almost gave up a lot as well. This line: “and I asked God, please call my name”, just made me cry, because I’ve prayed for so long for a silver lining. I love your songs and I’m really grateful for you, you always find the words to express those feelings that I cannot describe. Really, from the bottom of my heart, thank you.

7 months is no time at all. It's still so fresh. It will improve, but slowly, over many years and repeated passing of notable dates and holidays.
