I didn't notice. What I did notice is the love and acceptance in your voice. Thank you so much for your loving encouraging words. I love watching you because you cause me to feel so good. 😊❤❤❤
I've been a bit down this week, because Sunday, I had a man come and pickup one of my favorite roosters. I had 5 roosters, and I needed to re-home at least 2. Henry was the friendlies to me, but he was too aggressive with the hens and other roosters. I prayed about it, and felt he should go. The man that our local feed store uses to pickup roosters came, and I told him how much I loved this rooster. He said he had a neighbor with 6 hens and no rooster, so if he was nice to people he would see if they wanted him. I said okay, and went and picked Henry up (he didn't even run from me) and gave him to the man. After he left I began to cry, because I felt like I had betrayed Henry. I pray he is okay. How do you deal with getting rid of roosters that are so friendly to humans but not so much to other chickens? Ugh! I will be more careful in the future to not buy unsexed chicks. Nearly all the ones that grew up the friendliest, ended up being roosters!

I agree sometimes we just work! work! work! We really do need to take time each day just to sit and be with our chickens. I make sure to take 10 or 15 minutes each day doing nothing but observing them, and sitting with them. We can learn alot about their health and personalities doing that too. And it's like a meditation..

I just had this convo with my husband last night. People have been raising chickens for a very very long time. So many things going around TH-cam about the feed debacle… what did people do before premade feed was available? That’s where my head is right now getting back to basics and simplify everything .

I was thinking the same. I am very new to chickens and I have to Google search for a few things, she ran into some wild onions in the yard and she acted like a T-Rex and I thought she knows what to eat, right? So of course I asked Google and I read they shouldn’t eat a mile long list! I was like this can’t be right, can it? Azure farms says no raw meat or eggs and I thought aren’t they omnivores? Who cooked their food thousands of years ago in the wild? 😂 well I need better resources for sure. That could be true but my gut says find someplace else for info.

@@dianeespinoza8647 so much conflicting information. Bottom line is all you can do is your best. I don’t think there is one right way to feed the girls. I was just on azure farms looking up different grains to order to make my own feed. I free range my girls and boys, give them scraps, give them treats and there are few items I won’t give them but other than that they are pretty smart as to what they want to eat and or should eat (like all my flowers and herbs 🤦🏼‍♀️). Chicken raising shouldn’t be that complicated.

Right, I am very new and I am better off buy a book than asking the internet. I think my common sense is ok when I do check on my own ideas. I want to give them a good life without being a helicopter mom. 😂
Btw, I’m sorry if I was offensive by naming the website that I went to it could have been any website that I have seen lately they all seem to repeat the same stuff. I am not going to say that Azure farms is or isn’t a reputable source, I am not qualified in any way, so there was not attempt to drag them. I should have been careful with language. I will say that that list is a bit alarmist when I cross checked the no onion, there is a study done in 2001 that was blogged about by eco peanut that contradicts this, I think it would be better to keep the list short and list or link more info than to list food as forbidden, bloggers do this with garlic and dogs it takes cloves of it before it is harmful yet people say don’t give your dog this because it is SEASONED with..blah blah. people then pass info on feverishly and of course creating anxiety. I guess I am making more out of it than I should, I apologize. It is was just some that is annoying to me and I am sure the vet doesn’t enjoy answering calls about intoxication panic when your dog eats your bowl of pesto, I wouldn’t be able to allow my chicken to free range if I had to worry about onions and raw meat, since we probably have mice and other critters out there. 🤢
Thank you for your time and comment.

@@dianeespinoza8647 just to be clear I took no offense to the azure farm mention. I actually ended up going to a feed and grain about 40 minutes away and found feed that works for me or I should say my girls. Mr. Miyagi was a fantastic character whose philosophy can help everyone. While you were speaking about chickens, I was thinking that we could replace "chickens" with "humans" and your comments would still apply. Humans belong in nature. Humans need balance. Humans need proper nutrition. Humans suffer from stress. Use natural solutions. If it feels wrong, you probably shouldn't do it. Trust your instincts and your life will be happier and safer. So many truths in a short video. Thank you, Mrs. President!

A few weeks back, I made an impulse buy and put an order in for 15 baby chicks to be delivered in the spring. Today I realized that that would put me under too much stress because we are going to have our kitchen renovated, so I sat down and meditated and decided to cancel my order and I already have a flock of 17 beautiful hens. I’ll get more chicks next year.

I've had chickens 30+ years and believe in natural all the way. Have several acres. My management is different than most. I have a double carport as well as several open door buildings. My chickens are never cooped up. They are free-range all the time. I have double fenced property with LGD to protect them. In fact early spring will hide nests and hatch out their own eggs. I have nesting boxes under carport they use when not broody. This keeps down ticks and bugs. I love chickens they are very humorous.

We have coyotes near the property but we let them be. Of course the hens are locked up at night but they are most happy when free ranging during day light hours, even with 2 plus feet of snow on the ground. I haven't had a problem with predators and my flock. The Ravens chase the hawks away and I've only seen one owl. Both the owls and coyotes help keep the rodent population down, which when we moved in 5 years ago was really high (due this being a vacation home, used only a few months out of the year). One of our cats is also a avid huntress, she eats everything she kills. Thank you for the advise.

I LOVE your channel! Your information has helped me become a better chicken mama in a much shorter time, and I agree with your natural approach to letting animals be who they're meant to be. Would you be able to include in one of your upcoming videos some clarification on all the rumors going around about Tractor Supply's chicken feed causing chickens to stop laying eggs? Here on the east coast there are TONS of youtubers who are spreading what I believe to be false info about a particular brand of layer feed that TS carries. According to TS, they have not changed their formula in over 10 years and everyone's complaints about chickens' egg production going down "because of the feed" actually coincides with the onset of cold winter temps. I hate to see backyard chicken "parents" switching away from reliable and quality layer feed because of more crazy conspiracy theories. Our chickens deserve better.

We have more wildlife running on my land and that's a problem. But I work it out and you have helped. Last night when I went to put the girls to roost, a possum near the coop allowed me to feed it some food by hand. I was amazed at the trust it showed in me. Your discussion about living with wildlife is so important. Not trying to kill it but finding the balance so we can create an urban environment that includes wildlife. It's a big challenge but we need to think about this because as the climate collapses wildlife will now seek other habitats to survive and it's obvious to me that the urban environment will be option number 1.

One thing no one told me was that my chicks at a few weeks old would start running from me. I made sure to handle them from the day they came home. Hand fed. Treats, etc. But, at about three weeks, the problems began, especially with the leghorns running from me, except when I bring their feeder or any treat. Then, they peck and run.
They’re out in the run now. It’s sn Eglu my hubs purchased for me. as a surprise since he said he didn’t want chickens. It’s wonderful for a small flock and I can easily move it around the acreage every few days. It’s proving to be very safe from the predators and cleaning is simple. My only issue is the run is short so I must crawl around and the girls can get under the cube which means I can’t reach them at all. I told hubs the run must be changed. It doesn’t work for me.
How am I supposed to check them for external parasites?
    Will they stop running away?
So, I guess I have several queries.

I have raspberries and rhubarb grown in terrace beds; I'm deeply considering building a little run in there between the crops so my chickens can take care of the vole population living in those garden beds 😆
Lass crop loss for me, and more enrichment for the tiny raptors

I just saw a video where a keeper had his large flock in open to the world round pens under roof, no sides, zero protection. First, I thought, how awful for the hens!! They couldn’t see out the sides of their pens and they never got sunlight!
The predators, even foxes, were climbing across his rafters and decimating his flocks. So, his answer was to kill the predators. HE INVITED THEM!!!!!

Some creature has been raiding my feeders in my coop. Made a surprise visit this morning, caught a small squirrel in the act. I laughed out loud. I don't mind, and the chickens tolerate it. I have started sharing around the base of it's tree for a private stash. 😄

Hi. We have a hawk/eagle issue here. They have tried a few times, unsuccessfully to grab a chicken. My chickens have a safe coop with attached roofed run. They also have a huge fenced in area for free ranging. My husband put fishing line in a criss-cross pattern over this entire area to hopefully discourage the predators. That said, my chickens are spending a lot of time hiding in the ornamental grasses. I know they are fearful. How long will it take for them to relax and is there anything else I should be doing to help them through this? Thank you!

We noticed a hawk very close to our chickens last week when I let our dog outside, dog scared him off. He was soooo close, sitting right above the coop & edge of garage roof, about to go for one of our girls. He flew up to the telephone pole and was watching our girls until my dog started barking he flew off. We have not been letting them free range in the backyard since, now that hawk knows that they are there bc we are so scared he’s going to come back 😢 I feel bad that our girls are cooped up but I don’t know what to do… I don’t want them getting attacked.

I've been feeding crows since I've acquired chickens and have witness countless times, the crows defending my chickens by chasing off the hawks. I surmise the crows understand where their daily food source comes from i.e., without chickens, they will not get fed.

Even if you supervised your chickens during free range the hawk will still attack, happen to my wife in Nov right in front of her. It freaked her out, now they don't free range, extended run is all I can do, maybe chunnel system in the future.

Do you have neighborhood crows? If so, observe them, listen to them, watch and befriend them!!! They are wonderful guardians
Crows are very territorial & they despise hawks! When one crow spots a hawk, he/she will LOUDLY announce it so that all the other crows can come to help. The crows swiftly & efficiently work together-screaming, chasing and dive-bombing the hawk until the hawk is like “F-this, I’m out” 😂 It’s amazing to watch!
My chickens listen to the crows too-Idk if this is innate or if they somehow learned from me, but when they hear the crow’s “hawk alarm”, they all quickly run to hide under a low bush or make a beeline into their covered chicken run.

I'm noticing a bunch of TH-cam channels popping up because of the chicken stuff going on in the world and they're giving out very very bad information stuff like using poisonous materials as building materials I'm so worried about people right now getting the wrong information and causing a lot of harm to chickens.
