That's awesome, that it worked on first plug in. Man, I'm so glad to have grown up during the arcade boom. It was always so magical to spend your Friday night in the arcade. My go-to game was always TEMPEST. Something about the sounds, I just loved. If I ever am lucky enough to add a machine to my home (beyond a KISS pinball of course), I would go for a TEMPTEST or a Ms. Pac Man. I see my childhood when I see those machines. Great story. Great game. Thank you for sharing your collection with us. Take care man.
Wow before you could say where you got it from I thought about my shakeys down the street. Man I miss both the game and shakeys. Why they moved out of Indiana I will never know their dinner buffet was strait up fire.
so cool man I remember playing asteroids on an old windows PC, and although I never got to play it on a real machine, I hold this game very near and dear to my heart. Great video!
Loved old school shakeys pizza parlor. We had a local one many moons ago but when I am in the Disneyland area still will stop by to the current version. Thanks for sharing that story and goodness!
Nice...my favorite arcade from the 80's was JOUST...my grandparents had a little luncheonette with a few arcades, pooltable an jukebox in the back remember asking for quarters playing Joust an listening to "Disco Duck" an NOT ashamed to say it.great times ! Can't wait for the 2nd episode of the THING with 2 HEADS...🎃🤘
That’s a wild story about how you got it! Love it. There were two Shakey’s local to me as a kid; fond memories of eating there and playing video games. In fact, the last time I ate at the last one in this area was less than a year before they closed. It was lunch with a friend of mine since I was 6 years old.
@@mick_c_horror_and_pop_culture Actually Del Taco bought out Naugles and that is why all of those locations turned into Del Tacos. But they were able to get the rights back a few years ago and are slowly reviving them. It's glorious.
@@malfuncseanI did not know that. Nice return of kick butt Naugles, burritos. Thanks for the info, Sean.🤘🏻 Oh?! One more thing. My friends and I use to go to Naugles. Get food. Then rent from Video Tyme( they had a great Horror section). Those were the days🎃
I turned this game over back in the early 80s, Sean. lol It was at a Golf N Stuff here in Norwalk, CA. It's featured in the movie THE KARATE KID, the original. The key to turning it over was to only have one small asteroid on the screen and then moving your ship vertically, very fast, until the small spaceship comes out. Kill that and it's worth 1,000 every time. I own 2 game cabs, one tabletop with about 1150 games on it and the SW Arcade1Up with the Riser. I like them both and they play very well. Thanks for the video, Sean!
A connector on the power supply or monitor just needed to be wiggled . I've had that happen so many times . I got a few cheap games , even a free galaga that they thought was broken but it was just a connector on the power supply that needed to be unplugged and plugged back in . Getting the actual arcade game you played back in the day is very rare . NEVER sell or get rid of it , it can't be replaced . That is your asteroids .
Omg there’s still a naugles ??? There used to be one where I grew up in Colton Ca. Btw loving your videos your collection is killer. Had to box up most of my stuff & put away in my garage temporarily ( having another baby)
This story rings true. I recently housed a friends pinball machine. It was a bally's original playboy. Rockin grotto. He was gonna sell it..and i said no way. I will store it, play it and love it until you can have it again. He was very thankful... and so was I..💋
at a jeffy mart here, early 80s, it was walking distance to complex i lived, they had this, defender, and galaga, i would practice at home on my atari, and go play kids there, god, mimused to get so pissed off when i had a good run and got hit, lol, had 2 since then in my stores, bought to keep, but each time, a guy would make offer to buy, well above vaule, so would sell, and buy back later, myour a brother from another mother bro,lol
Cameron Custer Yes. The mask on the display is a store bought one but I do have the screen used mask as well it’s just not on the display it's in a display case because it’s fragile.
Hey Sean I’m a big fan of your videos I love your content thank you so much for these! Just wondering where you got that Demons mask on your wall? I make the same scale resin masks
daniel gamgamgam Yes and no. The one in between the two posters is an artist’s interpretation of the Demons mask which I really love but then if you look just above the Red Devil next to the game the real Demons mask is on the wall that came directly from the movie mold and made by the films special FX artist Sergio Stivaletti.
Oh nice, that’s a really great interpretation! Hopefully I haven’t spoiled the chance of there being a video about the masks in the future😬 you really do have everything! Demons is my 2nd favourite horror film so thank you for the info!
You need to change electrolytic capacitors in the power supply and in the monitor. Those caps will leak or self destruct and you no longer have a working game. Also, the X-Y transistors in the monitor are prone to be bad after 40 years. You need to reflow solder on all header pins in the monitor in order to have reliable connection between the transistors and the pcb
Love that game. I have it on my MAME cab but it looks crappy because the screen doesn't have the colored ring so it looks black and white which makes it not as cool.
@@malfuncsean That's cool, still fun times to be had with that, but no castle is complete without a skee ball machine in it. unless of course you got room for an actual bowling alley
Not to pry, but uh, are you really rich or just very slowly build up that collection? If you are rich, what's your secret? Horrors Hallowed Grounds really pay off? I mean, great show but I must be in the wrong racket. I've seen every Halloween probably a zillion times. Was able to catch the original on opening night where it made it's worldwide premiere right here in Kansas City in 1978 at Watts Mill theater. It's now a Subway I think. But I never even bought a Shatner mask or bought a Funko Pop. Sad.
Well I guess that depends on what your definition of rich is. I've done quite well for myself over the years. Horror's Hallowed Grounds pays nothing. That is a hobby more than anything. This is a lifetime of collecting combined with a shit ton of hard work. Also I do consider myself a very lucky guy as well. Grateful for all of it.
@@malfuncsean Thanks. Love Horrors Hallowed Grounds. Many imitators but not nearly as good. As a "super fan" of franchises like Halloween I've always wanted to check out filming locations or collect merch, but it seems time and money are usually needed elsewhere. Love the Asteroids machine. I played Space Invaders as a kid at a Mexican restaurant and can still remember the smell. I literally could hit the side of the machine to get more credits. Great times. Congrats on your success and thanks for your contributions to film and horror.
@@capitalcitygoofball1987 Much appreciated. You need to get yourself out to the Halloween locations in South Pasadena someday it's an experience I can't put into words.
