Bears defense was so feared n hated by other teams for annihilating qb after qb they went after McMahon with an angry hurtful intent... he still ran rt at them n never backed down. Thanks jim

I used to hear that a lot when I was a kid and really treated it like all of the other chaos that surrounded him but as the years have gone on, your statement is fact and was rather openly on display.

I'll always remember him as the last great drop kicker.

Sure was one of them. Would’ve been so cool to see him pull one off in a game.

He may not have been the best performing QB, but he could lead a bunch of guys to get it accomplished.
The Defense was a whole different topic. I would never put the 2 together. 2 different discussions.

If you take McMahon's YPG Passing ×16 plus TD passes ÷ games played × 16, Interceptions ÷ games played × 16, then YPG rushing × 16 and TD Rushing ÷ games played × 16, McMahon's career numbers in Chicago look like this:
    1982: 3,001 18-14 Rushing: 209-2
    1983: 2,496 14-16 Rushing: 350-2
    1984: 2,037 14-4 Rushing: 491-4
    1985: 2,944 18-14 Rushing: 310-4
    1986: 2,653 13-21 Rushing: 405-3
    1987: 3,746 27-18. Rushing: 202-5
    1988: 2,394 11-12. Rushing: 186-7

God how I long for the Bears to draft another Jimmy Mac! Not the best athlete! But under center he could read a defense and place a football into his receivers hands like very few could! No matter what uniform color he wore! He was A Winner and the Bears should never let him go! Never! Unlike this dancing fool the Bears have now! Hell I've already seen Bobby Douglas play! And Bobby had a better stating record and arm than Justin Fields! But he wasn't as good as a dancer as Fields! The way he dances after making a first down makes you feel like we won the Superbowl!

Mac was all heart and intelligence. Every quarterback that’s been through Chicago since, seems to have lacked one or both of those qualities.

And always away from the defender.
