- Now that the dust has settled around the news of Tyreek Hill leaving the Kansas City Chiefs for the Miami Dolphins, Colin Cowherd takes this time to explore what it means for both teams. For the Chiefs, Colin believes they'll be fine. They have all of the makings for what he calls the new model of a dynasty, and while he could see them coming up short for the Super Bowl, he believes they'll be a better team than Miami. Tua Tagovailoa may have gotten a strong offensive weapon in Tyreek, but Colin isn't confident he'll be a strong enough quarterback to take advantage of it. I think he meant it to mean that, teams never win the Super Bowl because they have the fastest receiver. And I’d agree with that. I think the Chiefs still win that year if they just had any decent fast receiver like Tyreek Hill
He helped but he's not the reason, he wasn't the best WR until he got Mahomes, they can now go can more pieces with the draft or get cheaper guys with those draft picks instead taking a huge cap hit

It was a good long-term move for them. Mahomes can basically attract any elite FA wide receiver in the league in the future if need be, and he can also turn a great receiver from college into an elite receiver because of the way he throws the football IMO…
Where are the chiefs going to get a great college receiver drafting in the mid to higher 20s every year? And Mahomes took lots of cap room so elite receivers aren’t likely to take less to play there. The league has plenty of very good quarterbacks right now and everyone knows the chiefs defense is horrible

for majority of teams the winning formula comes from the draft. for other teams that already have a great core in tact, the formula comes from big name FAs

LAST year Mahomes had to do without his deep ball and learn to take the short stuff... At the end of the season Hardman and Pringle (twice) were the top receivers and both had 100 yard games... Mahomes rookie game against Denver starters (Von Miller and Company) was won throwing to Albert Wilson and Chris Connolly... His highlights are full of passes to DeMarcus Robinson, Hardman and Pringle... There is only one Hill, but there are lots of talented receivers out there and Mahomes as QB is a recruiting plus... So, Mahomes / KC will be fine... Just My Humble Opinion...

So true. 5-1 without hill in the line up with great stats throwing to Kelce, hardman, and pringle. Having hill on the field made mahomes want that deep ball way more than he should have. Valdez and Juju are upgrades over Hardman and Pringle, not to mention how thus should open up the use of the running back more - i think the offense will be more versatile this year.
@@stevenh3508 perfect example is against Pittsburgh in the Wild Card round. One of the best offensive performances in Mahomes’ career, and he was distributing the ball to Pringle, Robinson, and even Hardman. I can’t wait to watch Mahomes prove everyone wrong. He’s the goat 🐐

Andy reid doesn’t care about running the ball at all, yet Mahomes has been the best qb in the league at throwing the ball deep since he started in 2018, the numbers back that up. And dont give me the o line excuse, the chiefs had one of the worst o lines in 2020 from week 10 on, and yet Mahomes led them to a second straight SuperBowl. If Tua was elite, we would know by now even if his o line is bad, great QB’s still show their talent on bad teams. Herbert had a terrible o line in 2020 yet he played amazingly

The rest of the AFC west is in win now mode. This is a good year to retool the offense. It was going to be harder to win the afc west even with Hill. They got 12 picks in this year's draft. Cap space freed up by Hill means they didn't have to convert Mahomes' bonus to guaranteed money, which means they won't have to kick that can down the road. Now they can go young and cheap in the draft or flip the picks for to trade for a wide receiver or trade up in the draft. This is a short-term loss but a long-term gain considering Mahomes ain't going anywhere anytime soon. I'm glad Hill and the Chiefs split on good terms without the mess of a franchise tag next year.
The question is what I’ve been saying for years. Can Mahomes still be the best when his best players and coaches start leaving? Is he still great without the best TE receiver duo in the league? Are you MVP caliber when your best receiver is a number 2 option on most other teams? This is the stuff Brady had to do in order to win consistently

The play calling and Mahomes love for the big play handcuffed him to Hill so much it was more of a detriment than helpful - i think this move will really open the offense up, especially with the running backs.
I actually think Mahomes gonna struggle big time. The Chiefs have relied a lot of Tyreek doing so much after the catch or opening things up with his speed
They're worse today without tyreek, no question. But I dont' think he's as reliant on Tyreek as everyone thinks. having three average receivers on the field can work just as well as having 1 great one and two bad ones, which is what the chiefs had most of last year. They still have Kelce, and they have arguably 3 receivers who are good enough to be WR2 on most teams. They'll draft at least 1 if not 2 receivers this year. Probably trade up to get at least one of them to make sure they get a top guy.

Make no mistake, Reek has bailed out Mahomes on so many big games where the offense stalled. The reason why the chiefs can score in an instant is cause of Cheetah. I was mad for a little bit, but now I’m totally cool with it. Allows us to improve our team.
Tyreek added to the dolphins roster makes the whole offense side of the ball a mismatch. Tua might not be a down the field thrower but he is definitely one of the more accurate short and mid range throwers in the nfl. McDaniels is one of the more initiative offensive coaches in the nfl. If you are saying this isn’t a huge boon for a team that only scored like 20 points a game last year I disagree. One of the few things in this league that you cannot teach is speed and the hardest thing to defend against is speed and now the dolphins have arguably have the two fastest wideouts in the league and two burners at rb. That offense has the potential to be very good and the team with already one of the best defenses in the league has the potential to be a very good to great team. With all that being said it’s a waiting game to see how it all comes together

What made KC so special was their unique ability to seemingly score on any play & make 3rd & 15 look like 3rd & 2. Taking away the home run will make them far easier to gameplan against.
Chiefs have 12 picks in this draft, you really think theyre not using at least 2 of those on wide receivers? I guarantee they take at least 1 receiver in the first or second round. The speed of the receivers in this draft is record breaking, literally. They’re not going into next season with the guys they have right this moment. A lot of offseason left
Ummm they took away the home run literally all last year....KC still hosted the AFC champ game after a rough start. I think they realized hill handcuffs mahomes alot to want that deep ball and without him will make the offense alot more versatile. Look at the 6 games mahomes played without hill: 5-1, 1700 yards, 8:1 td ratio, 103 passer rating while throwing to kelce, hardman, and pringle. JuJu and Valdez are upgrades over hardman and pringle and i think this will open the running backs more.

Colin talks about QBs reworking contracts as though they’re giving up money. Brady is the only one who signed team friendly deals. The rest will get all the money in their contract at different times
I had a similar reaction. I think Hill peaked in 2020 and that his production has been hampered of late by nagging injuries to sensitive areas for a speed guy. He's still a beast with great hands, great athleticism and instincts and who finds ways to get open when it counts, but the Chiefs got a haul for him at peak sell. And as suspected -- i don't think Veach did so without another dude in mind or a kid in the draft with incredible potential that will likely be there to pick...or both.
