I actually liked playing the demon on my way top top tier a couple months back. Loved the low speed dogfights I got into with it, didnt so much love the lack of flares and lack of speed and how fugly the thing looks.
Also the radar missiles while absolute dogs compared to any other radar missile did scare all the Mig-21's into dogfighting me, which quickly ended with them turning into a red mist. And they arent too bad when people dont expect the missile to keep tracking after they flare

It's a pretty good plane, maybe not right now with the F8U-2 spam. The cannons are especially amazing. I used it to research the Super Sabre which was a massive mistake, should have gone for the Crusader immediately.

The Sparrow-III is only effective against bombers and AI. Otherwise you have to play as a dogfighter.
