Wow this is a great interview! Thanks to both of you for doing this, its so very important. Epipens should be cheap and easily accessible! Its mind blowing that they aren't. I hope the bill passes and changes that!
I realize you specialize in allergies, but you are the only immunologist i know of. I have asked about this on your Instagram, but do you think you could touch on drug allergies/reactions as well sometime?
I had an episode of Stevens Johnson syndrome triggered by Lamictal back in 2019. From what i understand it is considered autoimmune but not a lot is known about why it occurs. My case was severe enough for a month in a Burn ICU, not knowing if i would survive. I carry a tracheotomy scar bc i went into respiratory failure, i needed head to toe cadaver grafts, picc line & NG tubes, the whole nine. it was so insane.
It certainly changed my life. In some ways it damaged me, in some ways i managed to find positivity & strength in my experience. I didnt know the syndrome existed until it was happening to me, and it could have killed me, easily.
I just think people should know that this is a thing that can happen, they should know the drugs that are known to trigger it and the warning signs.
Anyways. thanks for the work both of you do, youre awesome for educating all of us!

I just paid for a new EpiPen recently, so even with insurance, the price is too high.

Please tell me more about how to get over fear of anaphylactic reaction. I have never had a severe allergic reaction but due to excema I had skin testing and was told I was allergic to things I ate daily and never had a reaction to. As a result I now have an eating disorder and have gone to two different counselors but have not had any improvement. I’ve had anaphylaxis reaction a million times in my head. It’s miserable and affects my life everyday.
