As long as fund is risk reversed by diversification. All that to say - 500 good mango trees instead of 1. Fund managers do risky bets to make more gain and end up staying less than the index funds. If you lose money, there is nothing to compound.

Excellent question. Value creation is primarily not on transaction it is on the company using your capital to create goods or services that creates value. Imagine a mining company gets your capital and they can monetize more gold with it. That creates value and you generated it for them. You are not owning a stock - you are owning a company.
