This is the intro of the first episode of the original New Zealand version of the heart-pounding quiz show "The Chair" hosted by ex-rugby player Matthew Ridge. It was shown on TV2 in early-mid 2002 and though it ran for 10 episodes. It has a top prize of NZ$50,000. Like the United States version, it ran every Tuesday.

The Chair was originally developed in New Zealand but the New Zealand version was not the first version to premiere. The show first aired in the United States, and it would be a few months before the show made it to New Zealand.
A similar situation happened over five years later when the game show format Duel was commissioned. Duel was developed in France but the show was commissioned in the United Kingdom first. However the American version was the first to premiere and it only lasted 16 episodes. Regardless Duel lasted the longest in its native country. Both formats failed after almost a decade due to high production costs and poor viewership performance.
"The Chair" was a worldwide groundbreaking game show phenomenon developed in New Zealand, even though it first premiered in the United States on ABC in January 2002 hosted by John McEnroe, the original New Zealand version would be the second version to be hosted by ex-rugby player Matthew Ridge and to be aired on TV2 (chosen by producers of Touchdown Television), the Turkish version would be the third hosted by Osmantan Erkır to be aired on Kanal D and the Spanish version would be the fourth hosted by Constantino Romero to be aired on Telemadrid, Canal Sur, Forta and ETB. Other versions include Malaysia (NTV7), United Kingdom (BBC One), Bulgaria (NOVA), Greece (ANT1), Russia (STS), France (TF1), Germany (VOX), Austria (ATV) and Arab World/Middle East (Abu Dhabi TV).
