    Saw the twin variant up close at EAA this year. It looked like it was decked out for comfort. Spacious, soft leather seats, and air conditioning! According to the owner, it apparently still had an impressive useful load. Traveling in that kind of speed and comfort, not to mention range, you'd never need to pay for an airline ticket again!

    Im visiting the factory on Friday for a test flight before putting my deposit down in as SE RG. The new SE have the same big door as the XL. Older Velocities, you did have to slide over the wimg, but no longer. Fantastic review, not that im biased!

      I don't mean to be "that guy" but every time I hear about the Velocity people rave about them. There certainly isn't a lot of content for them, though, which I find disappointing.

    An instructor at my school died in a velocity V-twin crash... He and his copilot were both F-16 pilots... Just can't look at this plane the same way again...

    Absolutely. I ride a Honda Magna VF 750 and i wave at everyone i pass. Motorcyclists are a very tight knit community. We help each other out mechanically, and medically in cases of crashes and we also do our best to teach each other often free of charge.
    I love the community and even after i get into flying i can promise you i'll still ride.

    I was told the "Standard" is the one that you have to jump up onto the wing to get in and the SE is the one with a door. Also the original STD has less wing area and is the most efficient in terms of Miles per gallon and sporty flight. 60K stall speed.

    Love this video! While not as cool as a Velocity, might I suggest that a video on the North American Navion would be cool for a video? I hear it is accommodating for those of us of the taller variety.

    Velocity is probably the most cost efficient 4 seater there is but one of the bigger limitations (for me at least) is the higher take off and landing speeds required due to the lack of flaps.

      The Velocity XL-RG with a Continental TSIO-550 engine is a 240ktas cruiser. Needs 1500 feet to land. The Cirrus SR22T with the same engine is a 180ktas cruiser, needs 2,000 feet to land. Flaps are not a factor.

    I am a fan of the velocity line of aircraft’s. Lots of good things going. But, when I wanted to buy one, the insurance premiums were not feasible. My broker tried several insurance companies but all were eye watering expensive. At the same time, none of the underwriters could give me a sensible reason. Have anyone here had better luck and if so who gave you a reasonable rate?

      The issue is retractable gear. You need 100 hours with an instructor to qualify.

    Awesome video, but I’m confused about the rudder pedals not being connected to each other thing. Can you explain? Anything like the split rudder on the Dark Aero 1?

      Right pedal moves the right rudder to the right when you press it. Left pedal moves the left to the left. Push them both and they both move out. They work independently

      Yes its like with the darkaero just that 1side of rhe rudder is on the end of one wing and the other half is on the other side but they function the same

    Yeah... I'd take building my own, with builder assist, at X26 (Sebastian, FL), over buying God knows the build quality off of some guy with a partially finished kit.
    Join VOBA if you want to dip your toes into the canard club. Great info. Well worth my $40 for the year - even though I am A LONG way away from buying/building one.

    I thought he was going to mention it, but I heard canards are harder to stall since the canard stalls before the wings (so the nose points downward before the whole aircraft stalls), is that true?

      If the canard stalls at 20 ft you won’t be happy. Any other time it’s a non-issue. I flew a Velocity years ago on a demo ride. Stick full back, nose bobbing up and down, and still climbing at 800fpm.

      ⁠@@CompleteWalkaroundTrue. It’s technically a forward wing. But it offers the same benefit as it is engineered to fly at a higher angle of attack than the main wing and will stall first at low speeds/high angles of attack.

    I kinda like canards but theres always the problem with FOD from the nose wheel damaging the prop, which makes it impossible to operate out of soft fields. Also because a tractor canard would look dumb

    Cool looking plane but I don’t think it’s very good for the UK 🇬🇧 we tend to have shorter,less well maintained strips and most are grass. (Imagine the prop damage 😳) would be a cool cruiser though if you could base it somewhere sensible ( i.e. expensive) still we can dream. 👋😀🇬🇧

    It would look better is the vertical stabilizer is in the middle like the vtwin… only downside. And 250 knots is almost as fast as some turbo prop. Wonder how fast it would go with a pt6

      @@shiroyukiwang1252 They have actually done just that using a pair of PBS TP100 engines. Those are about 241hp and they project it'll easily break 300 knots. There was also a builder who used just one of those on the XL kit though I can't remember what speed he got.
      Velocity's Instagram actually has a compilation video of the sounds of all the different engine options, one of which is the turboprop single.

      With a 916is it probably wouldn't get off the ground without a 2 mile long runway. It would climb at dozens of feet per minute :)

      ​@CoreyJones314 I've looked at the deltahawk. Problem is that it's a heavy beast. A sweet engine would be the ULPower UL520T. 220hp turbo normalised engine which is about 80lbs lighter than the normal 200hp Lycoming.

      @@FasterLower The VTwin six seater that crashed had the UL520T and so far from the reports the UL520T is what went wrong on take off that led to the crash.

      @@kvnkaveman it is worth reading through accident report. data.ntsb.gov/carol-repgen/api/Aviation/ReportMain/GenerateNewestReport/102636/pdf Basically an engine instrument issue (low oil pressure) so shut engine down. Then they lost a main gear door which went through the prop on the good engine. They were over the gear limit speed at the time AND they flew the prior leg, a few hours, above the gear limit speed as well. They had a gear problem and got FAA dispensation to fly with 2 crew and a restriction to stay below gear limit speed. They busted their speeds and the side slip from the shut down (but serviceable) engine caused the abused gear door to fail. Poor airmanship IMHO. RIP.

    The twin is a nice plane but it is not a speed demon, really no twin is...If you want speed you need to step up to the Velocity XL-RG.
