    To be honest, I would pair Mooney with Lotus more than with DeLorean. They both have a focus on building small, underpowered, but efficient products that are fun to buzz around in, they both like being different, all of their products are variants of the same thing (2 seat roadsters for lotus, M20 variants for Mooney). Most of all, however, they both are on the brink of bankruptcy constantly, but always find a way to claw themselves back into production a few years later.

    • @krisraney3682
      @krisraney3682 2 ปีที่แล้ว +65

      Came here to say this. Also, the Lotus philosophy of “simplify, then add lightness” seems like a match for Mooney. And the M in TBM is for Mooney, just like Lotus engineering has been involved other company’s successful designs.

      Beat me to it. I was going to compare Mooney to Lotus because they both squeeze the most performance out of relatively low hp engines. I also took a little issue with the Beech to Volvo comparison. I've always thought of Bonanzas as the BMW M5 of the sky. Little more luxury, 4 passengers with a bit of luggage, and Autobahn 150mph all day.

    I love how half of these got me confused and disagreeing at first with the comparison but then made total sense after you explained your point of view. 😆
    Although to me I always thought of Beechcraft as the Cadillac of the skies, and it relates a bit better to being the luxury sibling of Cessna and Chevrolet owned by the same respective parent companies, GM and Textron.
    Cirrus for me ALWAYS drew comparisons to European luxury brands like BMW and Mercedes. Expensive luxury planes to buy and own, and maintain, like a European luxury brand. Buying a Cirrus is expensive, the avionics are expensive, the parachute needs to be repacked after a certain amount of time, which is expensive, and they have very specific training requirements in order to get cirris-specific insurance which also adds to the cost, making Cirrus an expensive brand for the category of plane they are. Plus, BY FAR they are the most popular light GA plane that is often sitting at the premium FBOs parked with all the corporate jets and turboprops.
    For Piper, I always thought of them more like Ford rather than Chrysler/Dodge, but the comparisons I think are interchangeable. The J-3 Cub to me is a lot like the Model T of aviation.
    Maule to me always reminded me of the Ford Bronco, while the Super Cub was the flying Jeep. Although where the Bronco could carry A LOT, the Maule not so much (its useful load is actually pretty dismal, especially the big-engine models). So I think it being like Jeep also works well.
    Extra being Ferrari makes total sense, but to me Lancair always reminded me of Ferrari. While not bred purely for competition, they are very popular in cross-country races and of course the Reno air races, and are incredibly sleek and stylish. Also very high performance, like a Ferrari, even the lower-powered models like the 235, 320, and 360.

    My dad used to own a Comanche 400! Some teenager when he was pulling it out over stressed the front landing gear and it wouldn't come down for landing. Had to belly land it and somebody else bought it for parts. Really sad story but it would never forget that red leather interior and breathing oxygen at like crazy altitude I think it was 14,000. I don't remember I was like six. He once put the plane into a dive while I was unbuckled in the back and I remember floating up to the ceiling freaking out xD
    I remember going over the mountains in Mexico, breathing oxygen. That plane could take off like a rocket ship. We once had it on minimum load with very little fuel and only two people. Literally it felt like you were climbing straight up xD Even fully loaded The issue wasn't the power of the engine but actually the strength of the plane itself. Fully loaded with fuel luggage and people you'd still fly like an SR-71. I miss that plane and I never even got to own it. My dad inherited it from his dad.
    I think the only thing I've been in that is comparable to the Comanche 400 in just spirit is the HondaJet. That m*********** can move

    The car company you're looking for to pair with Tecnam is FIAT. Italian entry-level cars designed for one purpose and one only. They both aim at being cheap but reliable by using simplicity thus compromising luxury and comfort. The vehicle itself has many limitations but can do what it's designed for perfectly well. This video was very helpful to me, I live and breathe cars but I have no clue about anything when it comes to airplane brands, this was a fun way to learn!

    As someone who views the world entirely through the lens of cars, mechanical and brand analogies. Thank you for this.

    As a someone who is a car enthusiast, but was never interested in aviation and didn't know any of these brands, that's quite a refreshing video to watch.
