Driving, esp owning a car, is a pretty big dude flex here in Japan exactly because public trans is so great. It's almost purely for leisure, so you're definitely considered well off if you have a car, esp in big cities.
Public transportation doesn't include privately owned vehicles lol, that's why it's "public". Only a small percentage of the population owns a car, the majority use trains, buses, taxis, or jsut bike where they need to go.
Now switch to countries where you're completely FAQed if you don't have a license and at least a motorcycle...
