  • For the past month and a half, I have been hitting the Cajon Pass non-stop. Finding new spots and racing up and down the Cajon sometimes multiple times a day. BNSF has assigned over 20 SD70ACes to the Barstow manifests. So I took advantage of that. Despite the recent fire, that didn't stop me from bringing you guys new videos. The recent addition to the BNSF SD70ACe's made me want to hit up the Cajon even more.

This is one of the best places to railfan. There so many good places to get photo opportunities or just watch the trains. But it's amazing as to what that recent fire did to Cajon. It looks like some plants survived but not much. This is a really great video by the way I enjoyed watching it.

Are some of the power unit in this video new or have they just washed and polished the old ones. How much time did you spend videoing, cutting and editing this 1:34:55 video? Odd ball color on that Salt lake power plant. thanks for a lot of beautifuly scenery and a very outstanding video.

Pretty crispy out there. I note that plenty of your footage is taken from hard-road accessible locations, however your shots from the inside of Sullivan's curve, and by the memorial on the third main just north of Rt. 138.... I was thinking that the forestry service had closed any off-road incursion into what they turn the "burn area". Is this not the case out there????

I was not aware at the time that the off roads were closed off till a few weeks after the video was made.

Perhaps they aren't as strict about all that as I had been led to believe originally. I was planning a return trip to the area in Mid-November, and wasn't looking forward to having to shoot everything from the roads.

A couple views caught some kind of memorial with crosses and flags 33:06 and again at 53:35 since they are positioned for viewing from the trains’ perspective...what is their significance? Did a train get caught in the fire storm and we have loss of life?

    • @TheNazar123

The memorial is dedicated to two ATSF crew members who died in a runaway train that was trying to climb the pass in 1996.

@@TheNazar123 You meant "descend" the pass, but otherwise correct.
