Best 550 video I've seen to date. Nicely done and wonderful car with all of the add-ons and improvements. Also curious what this one sold for. One of the very nicest I've ever seen. Congrats.
You said it yourself it's a kit car and being a kit it will never be 100% correct. They are fun to build and a pleasure to drive, especially with the upgrade to the suspension. VW performance engines are available, some up to 2500cc and 200hp, and a few companies offer a warranty. After a world wide unsuccessful search for an original 550 Jay Leno purchased a Beck 550. There are so very few actual 550's around and they command prices that are out of reach to most.
Wendler badge is correct for original 550 Spyder...but the rivets holding the badge on came from Home Depot!!! Original rivets had solid heads not hollow points.... Can be obtained from NLA or Stoddard Porsche Parts. Lee Raskin, Porsche Historian/Author, James Dean At Speed (Amazon.com)
Its a beautiful car but the hollow pop rivets do jump out at you. One of those things that barks kit car. But as Leeraskin point out, easily remedied. It sounds very nice out on the road. 1300 lbs? Makes my beetle seem like an anchor. Overall a beautiful build. I'm glad it sold. Next project...

For the people saying, yes it does have a spare wheel on the back behind the engine,

And what possible difference does the year manufactured make? It's a replica and should be titled as such.
So I'm curious... what did you get for it?? It sure is a beautiful beast... *sigh*
Why would you have 'non-functional' jack points at the front of the car? Is there any way to jack up the front to change the tire if you have a flat?
Where did you have the wheels reproduced? I'd like to do just that.
who is the maker? great video.
Thank You, the maker is Vintage Spyder in So.Calif.
all the enhancements are mine.
if it has one isn't it in the back with the engine ?
I don't believe it has a spare.
