Great video, very informative i have a couple of cars in my garage which i drive not often but start them once a week and let them run for 20 min until they get to pretty much normal operating temp. one is a BMW the other is an Alfa. It would be my dream to own a Porsche 550 spyder, i just love them.
Awesome video. You're the kind of person that I would like to buy a car from, quality individual. Not enough people like you in the world. Everything has a procedure and a purpose and it packaged nicely. I also frequently will lift the hood on my car in a mechanically sympathetic gesture when it is extremely hot out. Nice to see I'm not the only one.
Best 550 video I've seen to date. Nicely done and wonderful car with all of the add-ons and improvements. Also curious what this one sold for. One of the very nicest I've ever seen. Congrats.
You said it yourself it's a kit car and being a kit it will never be 100% correct. They are fun to build and a pleasure to drive, especially with the upgrade to the suspension. VW performance engines are available, some up to 2500cc and 200hp, and a few companies offer a warranty. After a world wide unsuccessful search for an original 550 Jay Leno purchased a Beck 550. There are so very few actual 550's around and they command prices that are out of reach to most.
Its a beautiful car but the hollow pop rivets do jump out at you. One of those things that barks kit car. But as Leeraskin point out, easily remedied. It sounds very nice out on the road. 1300 lbs? Makes my beetle seem like an anchor. Overall a beautiful build. I'm glad it sold. Next project...
Wendler badge is correct for original 550 Spyder...but the rivets holding the badge on came from Home Depot!!! Original rivets had solid heads not hollow points.... Can be obtained from NLA or Stoddard Porsche Parts. Lee Raskin, Porsche Historian/Author, James Dean At Speed (Amazon.com)

I have a similar set up I bought one in 81 and I fell in love with it Now I have a 350 SBC and it is worth it just to not have to adjust the valves !
The music ruined it
No
I have always wondered about the noise/heat from the engine infiltrating the cabin.
What wheels are these I need them
Fuchs
You may be able to fit the center console from a VW MK1 or MK2. There are 3 types from that year.
Engine bay was immaculate, fab looking 550 Spyder.
Did you ever sell it, Karl?
who is the maker? great video.
Thank You, the maker is Vintage Spyder in So.Calif. all the enhancements are mine.
Curious to know the paint color. Both the body and stripe. Thank you!
I built that car. Bought the wrecker for $100 in 1997. Blown engine, 4 flat tires, and so on. Delighted to see she lives on!
How much to build another?
Looks terrific.
chatsworth....
Small block...not short block. Nice car.
For the people saying, yes it does have a spare wheel on the back behind the engine,
if it has one isn't it in the back with the engine ?
I don't believe it has a spare.

Why would you have 'non-functional' jack points at the front of the car? Is there any way to jack up the front to change the tire if you have a flat?

So I'm curious... what did you get for it?? It sure is a beautiful beast... *sigh*
And what possible difference does the year manufactured make? It's a replica and should be titled as such.

Where did you have the wheels reproduced? I'd like to do just that.
