I wanted to report in here that this DID successfully fix a logic board I was sitting on for a while. It switches appropriately, from Intel to Nvidia graphics and provides HD playback from TH-cam, which it struggled with previously. It started with completely random panics, then they were more frequent. We tried BGA repairs on this, fan mods, software mods to prevent the switchable graphics. None of that worked. I pulled a tantalum cap off an ASUS motherboard that had "330" marking on it. I did not decipher the rest of the markings to figure out what the voltage or tolerance was on it. I was willing to "wing it". This kind of tells me that anything is better than what was populated there. Haha! THANKS!!!
Note, this was all done by HAND solder rework, using a 45-watt PACE iron, stainless tweezers, old-fashion rosin flux, and isopropyl for finishing.

Hello, it is June 16, 2024... I followed all your instructions and repaired a macbook pro mid 2010, I have had it operational since yesterday, working without problems... excellent information, thank you very much, and just as a piece of information, with I have installed OpenCore legacy patcher Sonoma 14.5, it is wonderful to see a 2010 mac running with macos 2024.

Great video - I am going to try this on my A1286. Am experimenting with a junk board first, but struggling to remove a capacitor off an Asus motherboard, using a budget butane hot air gun - the capacitor doesn't budge, and all I get is a damaged component stuck to the board. I am using flux around the capacitor but that isn't helping. Is it my cheapo butane gun ?

My 2010 Macbook Pro stopped working since 2014, took years for me to find the right technician anywhere in this country, disabling the GPU or Replace the GPU paid $2K for this laptop and I don't want anyone to even touch it unless their MAC CERT or EXPERIENCED. Well after 8 years just using it as a laptop holder for another laptop, I figure what the hell, let's go to you tube and check if there's a final fix for this GPU issue with my Macbook Pro A1286 15inch, I so miss it and just can't even afford the 16 inch which is dayuuum awesome, but then again, I really want to finally get this fixed, sentimental Macbook Pro actually.
I can't believe it ...I just knew it being a IBM Tech / Lenovo Tech since 2003 I knew something was up, incorrect part either a CAP was under voltage or something and you can't just get a Schematic anywhere just like that. So finally, I can finally fix the Pro with a upgraded CAP that will get the GPU working like it's suppose to. Man you are one LIFE SAVOR for posting this up ... you can imagine how many people WORLD WIDE what APPLE did to many consumers using their 2010 A1286 Product ... They don't even have a SERVICE BULLETIN regarding this fix and it had to be someone for a mom and pop's shop to get the correct answer for this FIX. Gee's APPLE SERVICE TECH'S should be putting some type of Knowledge BASE online for these fixes and NADA !!!
Thanks Powerbook Medic for this wonderful FIX ... question can we easily get this part online with a part # and specs so if you are traveling in another country you can get it at that country like ASIA or New Zealand or even Singapore? Great VIDEO, again thanks for posting this. After 8 years of waiting finally ... I can get it working. Now after trying to figure out the fix .. I messed up the FLEX for the Touch Pad and Keyboard LOL ... at least now I know what to fix. Dayuuuum !!! you did good for a lot of people with this A1286 and APPLE did Squiggly Nada !!!! Loosers for bad SERVICE BULLETINS Winners for making a very constructive machine. Kudo's

I have disable the Radeonxxxx.kext file and using only the internal. So it's working, but a lot os functions disabled, like external monitor. You think my GPU is dead or could be this capacitor? There is any way to check the cap if it is ok? Tks again.

I just did this repair. Everything went great for about 4 hours till I got another crash but the report was different. After a few errors the computer front light only comes on for a few seconds then turns off. I opened it up again to test continuity on the capacitor. It was showing the same values on both sides. I took the capacitor off the board and tested it. It shows it’s good. I tested the pads on the board and they had the exact same values on the positive pad and negative pad. I don’t know what to do now.
