All those trees look really nice. It's good to see multiple methods, for different requirements. Thank You !

Absolutely fantastic Jimmy. You have utterly transformed the whole layout. It was worth all the work that you put in to it. I always enjoy watching the videos that you produce but this one was something special. I particularly liked the way that you vary the type and quantity of trees in different areas to create a lovely canopy.

Great Jimmy !! One other possibility with those supertrees, without contaminating your glue in the bowl is by buying a box of wallpaper-glue ( which is a white powder ). Spray your trees wet with plain water and sprinkle the glue powder on it, your tree will get sticky and then you can sprinkle your woodland leaves or turf on it.

This is the kind of stuff that I love in modelling. Trains are cool, but interest lies much more with the miniature scale scenery and objects than with the locomotives specifically. This really looks great

I tried out the puff ball method. Could not find any polyfill other than white, so I spray painted it black. Let me tell you that this is such a fantastic method of producing good coverage for vitually zero outlay. I am so pleased with the results especially for the forests at the back of the layout. Thank you so much. Slowly but surely I am starting to use many of the tips that you have given over the years.

Great video Jimmy as usual :) I had made a hilltop of "puff ball" trees before and didnt like the way it turned out. I did use some small remnants of Woodland Scenics tree foliage and Super Tree material scraps to give them some "trunks" along the front edges which helped alot. BUT.... your idea of mixing the different types of trees along WITH the puff balls looks great! Wish I had thought of it long ago!

When making "super" trees, if you soak them in mattmedium it makes them stronger. Also to cover them , dip in preferred "glue" and then I put ground foam in a large pretzel container. I use that because or the large opening so I can get my hand in. I dip tree in glue hold tree by stem turn upside down into pretzel container then shake the whole container 3 times pull out tree stick in styrofoam to dry. After drying I spray trees ( standing in styrofoam) and again shake in container for second coat. I made 400 trees in tree evenings.
The next day I take. Block of styrofoam with trees on it to layout and pick trees that will look good in that location using your method to mount them. Later if the trees loose some cover I just spray with cheap hair spray and sprinkle more cover on it. I have heard that that's how you use the tree leaves now available. I've not done this but I will try as I am about to do " level 2" of my scenery this spring.

I'm jealous of you guys that model the east coast. Trees seem to be pretty easy. In the part of California that I model, oak trees dot the hills. In some places, there are a lot of eucalyptus trees. I have no idea on how to make one of those!

Another EXCELLENT video by you- GREAT overall, tree modeling techniques, that work in a variety of scenic situations, your 'methodology' is well-worked out AND easy to apply in various ways, (personally don't like the 'puff balls' approach, NEARLY as much as I DO LIKE the paint/glue more 'green scenic' material/then plant as needed to make scenery 'stand out' as 'right'; Your I created them 'trees' look AWESOME... Thanks for the share...

Your trees look great. I definitely like the last 2 methods you used, I haven't seen them before. I've personally used the Woodland Scenics kits and JTT trees for my modules. I avoid using the blister packed trees because of cost per tree is like $4.

I’m modeling the west coast of the USA. Mainly Washington and Oregon witch requires a lot of vegetation. Great video and I will definitely give this a shot. Also, do you have tips on how to make dead trees? I want to make the Tehachapi Loop once I have the space. Thanks!

That really makes a layout stand out!!!👊🏻 Also makes it more enjoyable because you did all the work!! Question did you or do you use the Anyrail software to design layouts? I have a couple ?? but will wait for your answer. Downloaded the trail but not sure if it's worth getting the software. Stay Safe & God Bless!!!

    Jimmy,
What do you do to treat the cut edges of your cardboard hillsides so that you do not see that rough cardboard fluted edge?

There's a couple methods. One is to glue woodland scenics bushes on them. The other is to pinch them together with pliers or something similar

How do you make dead or dieing trees and stumps?

    • @honestgbfan5324
      @honestgbfan5324 2 ปีที่แล้ว

one way is by just looking for little sticks along the ground in your yard or on a hiking trail. of course you will need "scale" appropriate sizes but even that can vary with the diferent types and sizes of dead trees you are modeling. Sage brush works nicely for this or even juniper bushes. The under brush in Junipers is usually brown and dried already and works great.

STOP using white glue for the super trees. Just makes a mess and drips all over your flocking. Spray them with some cheap AquaNet hairspray. Quicker and less messier!!!
