Nice! 🙂 5:28 You clicked into East Tyrol in Austria - nowhere near the Isonzo River. ;-) The spot was in the Marmolata mountain range, the highest part of the Dolomites and on the Italian/Austrian border during WWI. 9:20 This actually is the Isonzo River (Soča - "Sohtcha" in Slovenian), near Kobarid.
Ft. Pulaski was Civil War era, Chris. As a Savannah native, I’m disappointed. I assume you’ve never been and if that’s the case, you ABSOLUTELY should. It’s incredible. Ft. Pulaski was finished in 1847 and it’s famous for being the place where the Union Army successfully tested rifled cannons during combat in 1862. It was also a place on the Underground Railroad that slaves would go in search for freedom. In 1862, slaves on the island were declared free men and the military at Ft. Pulaski began traveling down the Savannah River to ferry slaves back to the island for freedom.
I think it would be funny if you did a video making a tier list of your knowledge on several subjects: so the American Civil War would be S tier, and maybe WW1 would be A or S, while topics like the Korean war or ancient Egyptian history would be closer to C
The sight in the Italian alps is the Marmolada, the tallest mountain in the Italian dolomites at 3300 metres. I was there literally day scaling up the preserved trenches with my daughter.
A little tip, there is a little arrow in the top corner of the map you can hit to make your mini map bigger. Helps for map scanning and keeping your berings
Regan is buried in Simi Valley at his Library. It's near Thousand Oaks as well. His Ranch was actually near Santa Barbara but they decided Simi Valley.
I remember when I was at the Tyne Cot cemetery in the morning at around 9-10 am. I will never forget how it was misty outside the cemetery over the fields, but inside the borders it was way less misty and while it was raining a little and the sky was gray there was a sun ray coming through which landed right on the big cross of Sacrifice in the center of the cemetery. The most beatiful of it all was that on either side of the cross sat a bird. One big black crow on one side and on the other a light gray pigeon. Idk why but seeing the eerie sight of the crow and the symbol of peace, a pigeon, on top of the cross of Sacrifice while the weather was bleak, misty and wet while the only sun ray was right on the cross gave me shivers like no other. We were lucky that we were the only ones at the time and only after we left a tour group came along. The beautiful yet eerie sight will always be engrained on me.
Hey Chris - would you ever consider doing a video recommending some key sites/spots to visit, maybe from both/either world war in Northern Europe? Hoping to plan a trip in the next few years and would love to hear your top “must sees” and best ways to plan etc. Great work as always - Cheers!
If only he new about the Ghana black tape meta Edit: Having been to the Ronald Reagan Museum having only a random In-and-out that I’ve probably eaten at, which is in a completely different city as the museum, called out as the area’s defining feature (alongside Santa Clarita being used for movies) is hilarious to me
Good fun! I'd suggest playing these types of maps NM (No Moving, they are more fun that way, and they have a more accurate, separate leaderboard), and also give us challenge links so we can play against the same rounds/locations as you!
As a fairly competitive Geoguessr player, I only managed to beat you on that last UNESCO map (I got 20,635), although I was only 100 points off your score in a similarly poor performance on the Revolutionary War one.
I didn't know any of them, except one! Took my sons to Fort Mifflin for a school project about 25 years ago. I was actually shocked I still remembered it, and was totally jazzed that I knew something you didn't!
For me, what a coincidence that you mentioned Ticonderoga where I’m from (which is a fantastic fort you need to visit one day). Ticonderoga is Iroquois meaning “place between two waters” Lake Champlain/Lake George. And then the next guess was Fort Moultrie in Charleston/Sullivans Island where I live currently. Thank you for all the history content!!!
I have been at Huis Doorn myself and if anyone wants to go: you can't go into the house on your own, you must book a tour. The reason for this, is that the interior of the house itself is extremely cluttered. The reason behind that is that kaiser Wilhelm brought a train filled with furniture with him and he wanted it all on display/to be out of storage. And unfortunately, we can't trust all people to not sit on furniture from the 1800's or try and steal a photo from the walls.
If you’re talking about Fort Pulaski near, Savannah,, Georgia it was built between 1829 and 1847 it did not exist during the revolutionary war. it is the first masonry that was attacked with rifle Cannon. One of the walls was left with all the bomb holes. The civil war fort we loved as kids was for McAllister in Richmondhill, Ga because it was an underground fort. That survived many Navy bombardments, but was eventually taken from the land side When Sherman Sharp shooters took out the gun crews. Henry Ford at a plantation in Richmond Hill. He restored the old Fort. I have to good friend when she was a girl play in the building left on the old ford plantation after it was abandoned
So excited when I saw Fort Stanwix on your Revolutionary War round. I've walked around the fort time after time and lived in and around the city my whole life 🇺🇸
Great video as always! I recently found a channel you might find interesting called retro today, he's been doing videos on historical games and the real history behind them, could make an interesting video?
Herbert Hoover not close to Des Moines. I wish. I used to drive by him all the time when going to college at Iowa State. I’ve camped out at his museum there because weather was so bad and Ames was on a good day 3 h away and Des Moines 2.5…
Unrelated to the video but have you had the chance to visit the Flight 93 memorial in Somerset PA. It’s very moving to see what the passengers went through and the decisions they made to prevent that plane from going to the capitol
Hey Chris, you mentioned that you will be playing risk with other youtubers. Did you guys stream this and if, is there a VOD of it. Sincerely Sascha from Germany P.S. Took my parents to Verdun and the Somme Battlefields on the way to the 80th Anniversary of D-Day for a Family Holiday.
Hey Chris, love your content. I want to throw out a video idea. I have been trying to look for videos on historical US military personal but am having trouble finding good ones. Can you make a video on generals such as Nathanael Greene, Henry Knox, John Laurens, and Philip Sheridan? I am sure you can think of more to include as well. The title could be something like, "The Forgotten Leaders in US Military History"
have you tried chronophoto? it gives you a photo and you have to guess the place AND the year it was taken. Could be a really cool opportunity for history!
can you please do a reaction video to pawn stars american historical items? it would be super fun and a lot of information there. creative way to learn more history! 🤩
I would like to see you do a reaction video to Pax Tube - Why America should not have joined in WW1. It came up on my feed and blew my brain- I knew some of it but not all. Oh yes, he talks about your favourite president
25:33 :D Not Romanian. It usually goes like this. If it looks like Germany but the writings are a combination of Spanish , Italian, French and Portuguese then its Romania :))
Hi Chris, with the election raging here in the US, I was curious what your thoughts on the STAR voting system. I recall watching one of your election trail videos and you mentioned obviously wanting more candidates. Here in Oregon in my county we voted on the STAR system :)
I recently learned that my great great grandfather was from Steubenville Ohio and the first thing I thought of was Chris lol. Second was Dean Martin. Do i watch too much VTH?

I'm loving the new video ideas you have been coming up with lately. keep it up man!
10:00 looks exactly like the location where they filmed the "Bear Jew" scene in Inglorious Basterds.
I recognized the place immediately, I had no idea that the site they filmed was on a battlefied of the great war.

I can attest to this. I’ve been to Fort Pulaski, although I’m a Wisconsin native.
I can confirm this. There is also a fig tree in there, if you go there today, you can pick some if its in season.
