The max stat being 7 is a great balance I’ve seen a few times from other players. You aren’t a god and you don’t suck. You are just good enough for things and it helps with teamwork in getting stuff done.
This is great, thanks for posting it. As a new GM to Cyberpunk, this is really helpful for understanding the core concepts behind characters made for the Interlock engine. Quick note, if we decide to roll characters cinematically, I'll use your suggested process but probably do 65 points, since Red has one more core stat than 2020.

thank you. i was having difficulty with the book. your video helped a ton. in my D&D games i had a sanity stat that basically determined if you could reign yourself in at any given time, so if your interrogating someone and you have low sanity, you might not being able to stop being violent after you get the information you need. i'm kicking off a cyberpunk campaign with that stat but i'm rolling it into the humanity stats to decrease sanity the more cyberware you have
Interesting, in our group we use 65 points and we let player put them where ever they like, however we limit the starting max career skills to 7(or some times 8) and pick up skills to 6
I must admit, I have changed my rule since this video. I do exactly what you're doing now except I also allow pickups to be 7. Only 3 skills can be an 8.
I think things are much better this way

Minor Supporting Character to me "feels" like Joseph Gordon-Levitt's character in the film "Inception" with Leonardo DiCaprio... Where he could still kick ass and run sideways along a hallway in the Dream World, but wasn't the Main Hero.

Great work man, thank you. I'm just getting started with 2020 but the rulebook can be too much at first if you're used to simpler character creation systems, and this is a great summary that helped me put it all together. I was wondering about the gear part and your idea of giving a flat rate to all characters really does make sense.

Quick question ik u talked abt skills and pick up skills but what do I put in the rest? Cause I damn well know 20 points cannot fill out all those skills
In the games I've GM'd, we've gone luck of the draw, basically they roll 12 times, drop the lowest 3 scores, then apply each roll to their stats. Makes for characters who win or lose the genetic lottery. Had one character who rolled a 9 and a 10 and a bunch of 3 and unders. Player ended up with a good looking rocker who could play guitar (ATTR and TECH) but was basically useless in every other way. Wrote a tour across america for a band (had a couple of NPC band members and members who did not have rocker or tech characters *the drummer was a techie* played some supporting role, like music journalist, band security, roadie, or groupie).

Question. What is the role of a Rocker in a team of "Runners"? One of my players asked me something about it the other day and I didn't have a good answer other than to say that they were more like activist than anything else.

Why do certain skills in the list have numbers in brackets like 'Demolitions (2)' or 'AV Tech (3)' in the 2020 rulebook? Is the idea that increasing one of these skills by one uses up two or three points?

What's the max a stat can be? I'm really new and making my first character today, I rolled 61 for my Character Points and I'm a Nomad so put 10 in Ref, Cool, Body and Ma but is the limit less or more than that?
In 2020 the max is 10. Everything past that you have to gain with cyberware
In Red character creation: max stats are 8.
When I played 2020 I always had my players limit their stats and skills numbers. They just made it a baseline thing in red
So I'm slowly working through this video and finding it helpful but what I don't understand is when I'm allocating my 40 career skill points and then my pickup skill points (17 for me right now), do I allocate any of those points to my special ability as well? Or is that at a sort of "pre-set" power level? And if it is custom to allocate points to the special ability, is it possible to... well... not. For example, does a COP have to have any authority? Or a Nomad family?
I do hope I've articulated my question properly and thank you for the help you've already provided.
In Cyberpunk Red you can only improve ability scores with Improvement Points (IP). So I wouldn't allow my players to raise their special ability at character creation. Has to be set at 4. Also this video is fairly old and is information on converting your 2020 character to the Red Jumpstart Kit and not Cyberpunk Red Core Game

And to be clear, as I'm not converting for Red just yet, I'm just trying to set up some characters for classic 2020, this process would be the same and special abilities should be at 4 to be upgraded later, correct?
@@NoName-sv7pp ah ok, actually for 2020 there was no limitation. you could upgrade your special ability to whatever you want at character creation. many GMs would set a personal limit as a homebrew

no unfortunately there is no roll20 support other than anything user generated. the rulebooks are not present

Yes for sure. Roll20.net is the most popular tool but there are many different ways to do it. Finding a game is the difficult part. Unfortunately, it's a tale as old as time. Many players but not enough GMs

Oh god, random dice rolls for stats... my least favourite method; thankfully that seems to be gone in RED, although just started reading it, so I dunno.
It's still there if you choose. There are 3 different ways to make a character and 2 of them involve dice rolls. The last method is a hand-picked method that you would like.
