Actually the basic trolls are just trolls, the stone trolls are a specific specie that lives in the moutains and caves and can notoriously eat rocks which makes their skin extremely hard and resilient.
The lore about cutting a trolls stomach out must have been discovered by a dwarf determined to find the best way to kill one. Only a dwarf could be that dedicated.
So, what if Trolls are the Clan of Dwarves that went North and was never heard from again... hence the craving for dwarven flesh. They went North, got super duper mutated by chaos as they were closer than the Chaos Dwarves were.
I remember a piece of old lore from way back, though I don't remember where from, there was a massive ork army making there way to the capital of the empire and sigmar in a cowardly fashion took off all his armor and weapons left them on his throne and disguised himself as a peasant, he then snuck out of the city and wandered the countryside looking for a place that wouldn't attract the orks attention. he didn't make it very far however before he was eaten by a troll, and sigmars servants seeing all his stuff on the throne, thought he ascended and became a god.
Maybe they procreate by ripping of some parts and a new Troll grows out of it.Would be a better thing to imagine instead of the alternative.Just saying.

+katthedemon Really it's no easier setting fire to a Stone Troll, their hide is not only as tough as stone, as far as I know it actually IS stone, which grows out of their hides as a result of their mineral-rich diet. That's why you need magical fire or like really nasty napalmy stuff, it won't give a shit if you jab it with a torch or shoot it with a fire arrow, the fire won't catch and the physical damage caused by such feeble weapons certainly won't do anything to help.

cool video. I helped set up a battle at GW as a kid (I basically helped put the pieces out in the store, was a bout 7) but I knew there was a river troll under the bridge, and managed to kite some Orc's right into him. He definitely attacked the Orc's, he was there to attack anyone. This was in the 80's though so maybe rules changed so that trolls won't attack Orc's? I'm not sure. It was cool when they were just part of the map and could ambush anyone walking by.

Mind you that information's taken from it's Blood Bowl description, as it doesn't show up much in Warhammer, Although there was an old Norsca Army List in a White Dwarf from years back that included them. Okay, so the troll's regenerative abilities are strong enough to be able to mend a hole through its heart and get it working again before the troll dies from it's heart not pumping blood around it's body, but they're not strong enough to regrow the stomach of said troll in the time it would take for it to starve to death? Considering the size of a troll, that might not be too long, but at the very least several days (if not weeks). Is there any more lore behind this? Does the fact that the troll can't feed inhibit its regenerative abilities? Is it so stupid that the brain can survive without oxygen for a very long time?
It's been bugging me for awhile but since we've got regular trolls in Total War Warhammer, what are the chances we'll be seeing their stone, and river cousins? I know for a fact that Chaos Trolls have got to be include for the Forces of Chaos.
Troll reproduction: it has been hinted that a troll can grow out of a severed limb, it is possible that many trolls are just 'clones' of one another. As for how did they come to be, well you better ask your mom about the birds and the bees.

Well, the WH world trolls are like traditional D&D trolls or from most fantasy worlds. Fire kills them, they eat a lot and vomit acid. Most people know how to dispose of trolls, therefor if they manage to injure one, they can kill it. The problem is getting to that point, since they vomit in a 180 degree radius, killing everything the vomit touches.
They can reproduced from any limbs they lost, this takes time. Sometimes, depending on what they lost, a mutation can occur which leads to multiple limbs sprouting, but this is more often seen due to Warpstone mutations. That said, they can force themselves to reproduce by cutting their own limbs. The only reason they don't do this is because Trolls do no play nice, they are constantly hunted, they usually eat everything around them, which means it is not in their best interest to call too much attention to themselves, they can be smelled miles away, the more of them you got, the more obvious it is they are around.

If you look in the army book (8th edition) vk.com/doc703852_222162588?hash=9cc9dd462477116a02&dl=4cd66f376784e2e781 There is no mention of goblins being less grown orks they refer to them as "cousins", plus if you read from 68 onwards you will see the description of a handfull of goblin "heroes". The interesting part here is that of Grom a goblin that ate the flesh of a troll which made him grow in size as the flesh regenerated inside him, The army books explains that goblins idolize him because he represents what they will never be, large and ferocious. So when it does not state that they aren't lesser grown versions of the orcs and you can be rigth it points more that they are different species

Sigmar, the god is different to sigmar, the man. Sigmar the god is a chaos entity, built from the empire's collective belief in the cult of Sigmar. Essentially, the collecti e belief of imperial citizens making Sigmar into a god is essentially the same effect as a chaos champion ascending to daemonhood, albeit on a much larger scale.
because every god IS a chaos god simply because of the way godhood and chaos works. each chaos god represents base human emotions and concepts although the traditional chaos gods take them to the extreme. khorne while being a god of violence is also a god of honour and strength. tzeentch represents schemes but also change and intelligence, and these things are no inherently evil or good slaanesh represents pain, but also pleasure, if there was no suffering the good times would count for nothing (ironically this is what caused slaanesh in 40k) nurgle represents disease but also durability to power through that disease. its the same with other gods. sigmar represents order and protection uhmm sigmar is the only one to cover new ground all the other gods are just highly specific variants on the 4 main chaos gods, this is why they are the strongest because while yes most of the power of the elvish worship of khaine goes to khaine because it overlaps just a little bit of power goes to khorne when a bretonnian worships the lady of the lake with all the pride and honour he feels a little bit stronger does khorne become etc etc.
theres no such thing as a " good faction " in warhammer just factions that are less destructive. The lizardmen are the opposite of chaos so they whould be the good guys but they´ll mercilessly and with out anny remorse eradicate entire races if a slaan said it was part of th eplan, also they´ll gladly help anny that opposes chaos if the slaan gave a go ahead. the few i´ve seen thats not total ass hats have been Vlad Von Carstain who treated his subjects better than the former human nobles and who was rather honorble and Arkhan who while being a undead monster was rather content in just sitting in his dark lair not being bothered and Arkhan did have some decency left in him.

Ogres can speak a language like humans do. They can understand concepts such as clothing, armour, constructing items, using the creatures around them to their advantage, ogres can think about the future. Also although more muscular and fatter than most, the ogre body is more like a human body than a troll's body would be. Trolls have animal-like minds. Instead of talking, they roar, growl, yelp and bark as an animal would do. Trolls cannot understand the mental concepts mentioned above. They are also stupider than many animals. However trolls are creatures of constant adaption, creatures of greater adaptability than any other humanoid creature in the warhammer world. This is why there are so many types of troll and why there are trolls all over the place. Trolls' bodies are constantly adapting/evolving to the environment around it. If the bodies are grazing in harsh, rocky environments, the bodies will toughen up and become harsh and rocky itself. If the bodies are in a wet area, then the bodies will become that which is easier to swim in, so smoother, slimy perhaps. These adaptions do not take lifetimes/decades/years like a normal body would but over mere days. Also should a troll be injured its body will heal itself remarkably and almost supernaturally fast, if you remove the finger of a troll then a new one will grow soon enough. Also trolls have deadly effective stomach acid so it can survive eating almost anything such as rocks and a troll can throw up with a thought, just in case anything gets caught in its throat or if it eats poison or whatever. What differs Trolls from other humanoid creatures including ogres is that while ogres and others will change their environments to suit their bodies, trolls will change their bodies to suit their environments.

There is no mention of goblins being less grown orks they refer to them as "cousins", plus if you read from 68 onwards you will see the description of a handfull of goblin "heroes".
The interesting part here is that of Grom a goblin that ate the flesh of a troll which made him grow in size as the flesh regenerated inside him, The army books explains that goblins idolize him because he represents what they will never be, large and ferocious.
So when it does not state that they aren't lesser grown versions of the orcs and you can be rigth it points more that they are different species

Sigmar, the god is different to sigmar, the man. Sigmar the god is a chaos entity, built from the empire's collective belief in the cult of Sigmar. Essentially, the collecti e belief of imperial citizens making Sigmar into a god is essentially the same effect as a chaos champion ascending to daemonhood, albeit on a much larger scale.
because every god IS a chaos god simply because of the way godhood and chaos works.
each chaos god represents base human emotions and concepts although the traditional chaos gods take them to the extreme.
khorne while being a god of violence is also a god of honour and strength.
tzeentch represents schemes but also change and intelligence, and these things are no inherently evil or good
slaanesh represents pain, but also pleasure, if there was no suffering the good times would count for nothing (ironically this is what caused slaanesh in 40k)
nurgle represents disease but also durability to power through that disease.
its the same with other gods.

theres no such thing as a " good faction " in warhammer just factions that are less destructive. The lizardmen are the opposite of chaos so they whould be the good guys but they´ll mercilessly and with out anny remorse eradicate entire races if a slaan said it was part of th eplan, also they´ll gladly help anny that opposes chaos if the slaan gave a go ahead. the few i´ve seen thats not total ass hats have been Vlad Von Carstain who treated his subjects better than the former human nobles and who was rather honorble and Arkhan who while being a undead monster was rather content in just sitting in his dark lair not being bothered and Arkhan did have some decency left in him.

Ogres have human-like minds, although they have the minds of children (at best). Ogres can speak a language like humans do. They can understand concepts such as clothing, armour, constructing items, using the creatures around them to their advantage, ogres can think about the future. Also although more muscular and fatter than most, the ogre body is more like a human body than a troll's body would be.
Trolls have animal-like minds. Instead of talking, they roar, growl, yelp and bark as an animal would do. Trolls cannot understand the mental concepts mentioned above. They are also stupider than many animals. However trolls are creatures of constant adaption, creatures of greater adaptability than any other humanoid creature in the warhammer world. This is why there are so many types of troll and why there are trolls all over the place.
Trolls' bodies are constantly adapting/evolving to the environment around it. If the bodies are grazing in harsh, rocky environments, the bodies will toughen up and become harsh and rocky itself. If the bodies are in a wet area, then the bodies will become that which is easier to swim in, so smoother, slimy perhaps. These adaptions do not take lifetimes/decades/years like a normal body would but over mere days. Also should a troll be injured its body will heal itself remarkably and almost supernaturally fast, if you remove the finger of a troll then a new one will grow soon enough. Also trolls have deadly effective stomach acid so it can survive eating almost anything such as rocks and a troll can throw up with a thought, just in case anything gets caught in its throat or if it eats poison or whatever.
What differs Trolls from other humanoid creatures including ogres is that while ogres and others will change their environments to suit their bodies, trolls will change their bodies to suit their environments.
