He wrote this song with Keith Nelson after spending time with a friend who is a senior and suffers from PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). It's the story of a young soldier going from a battlefield abroad to another kind of battlefield at home, and basically being forced to deal with it alone. This song and especially the lyric is awesome and touch me profoundly. I left my homeland Porto Alegre in south of Brazil still young to work far from home and lived in many places. Now in my late 60's I've got severe depreession. To me the biggest problem when I go back is the lack of belonging. To me nothin's really changed but it ain't the same - as said Charlie's song.
