Thank you SO much for making a video!! I’ve tried multiple times with this yarn and ended up frustrated and it’s been sitting in the closet for a few years. I’m inspired to try again!
Your blanket is beautiful! I've been crocheting for 45 years all self taught and have never used pooling yarn before. So this was a great way to introduce me to it. Thanks!
For those who are confused, it is multiples of 15 with a N hook (at least the N worked for me) but you either work one less that a perfect multiple or two more than a perfect multiple (so you would make either 44 or 46 for 3 colors across, 59 or 61 for 4 colors across, etc). Since you will still be working 15 of each color you would, for example if i were doing 3 colors across i would do 15 black, 15 red, 14 black on the first official row. Then 1 black, 15 red, 15 black, 13 red on the second row, 2 red, 15 black, 15 red, 12 black third row then 3 black, 15 red, 15 black, 11 red. Then keep it going. It makes sense past the first few rows.
Thank you for making this video. Yes, it took me a few times to figure it out but once my first few rows were done it was so much easier. Marking the chains really did make it so much easier too. After a while it was just counting 15.
YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW IVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS!! i have this yarn but i HATE knitting with color pooling yarn im ok with crochet though, so this lets me crochet this project!!

Hi, I bought this yarn thinking it would be easy to make this blanket, but I am stumped! I can not seem to get it. I know that it's a count of 15 but just can't seem to make it work out right. I was wondering if you could up load your graph chart in hopes of making it easier for me to see the big picture of how to make this pattern work. Thanks
Yes please. For the love of all, I’ve tried to make a paper pattern three times now, and none of them seem to come together right, paper or yarn. I’m completely at a loss.
I am so sorry I never got notification of your comment! As it was a hand drawn chart I can't think of a way to share, but with some graph paper & colored pencils you could make one too - exactly the size you need. Just remember to draw & read the chart the same way you crochet - mine wasn't styled like a traditional chart so I'd also hate to confuse you more!
@@suzysunrise4708 Did you ever find a way to share the chart? I just discovered this yarn and this tutorial and would love to be able to see that chart!
@@elizabethbellotte1510 I am working on it, it is testing my computer knowledge! It will be an excel file, although I think I can also create a pdf. Stay tuned!
Why did I buy this yarn. It looks very complicated! But I’ll try it. I’m obsessed with red and black buffalo check for Christmas! Thanks for the video. I’ll probably watch it a million times! Lol
I'm trying to follow along but my yarn for the first row is too long I can fit 30 stitches instead of 15 for each color but that's mean I wouldn't have enough of that color for the rows going up... should I just do 15 stitches and then do what you showed for row 2 where you have the excess yarn?
I bought this exact yarn and I’m starting a blanket for a Christmas present. My question is, do I have to chain 90 or can it be any combo of 30, for example 120 or 150?
It can be any multiple of 15, but the placement of the various diamonds will change - I would make a chart to ensure you like the look. Be aware however that going much larger will make a VERY HEAVY blanket which will be extremely difficult to launder (this yarn holds a ton of water) without a commercial washing machine.
@@suzysunrise4708 good point! I’ll try to keep with the 90 chains, then. Thank you! I have another question: In the beginning of your video, after the foundation chain, and after you made your first sc, you pulled up a whole section of black so you could then use the red for the next section of sc. What did you do with the black yarn tail you pulled through?
@@suzysunrise4708 Thank you for your help! I can see the pattern coming out and it’s beautiful! I took a picture, but I can’t post it here. I wish I could show you. 😉
This really helped me so much but I don’t know if this issue I’m having is the yarns fault or mine I can not get it to match with my chart I have one section of solid diamonds really really squished and I can’t fix it I’m 2 cakes in and I’m about to give up
First congrats for getting so far successfully! I suggest frogging back to a good bit before the squishing diamond to make sure the error isn't way back there (I frogged half a blanket before I got it right😭) Then count the stitches in your last correct row to make sure you're on track. Measure the sections of red & black to see if they are way off - if they are, cut out the bad section & start as if joining a new ball. When you join a new ball aim for the end of a color section & make sure to pull the yarn until the next color is a full section (the ends are sometimes too short) Don't give up forever but if you need a break, take it!
I love this, I have the yarn, but the joann's link is no longer working for the written pattern. Do you happen to have that somewhere? Thanks for the video!
I have crocheted for 50 years or more but am new to color pooling. I would like to make this in a queen size. I’m assuming I can do this by adding multiples of 15 to my foundation chain?
I'm working on this but in the green and black, I've gone through a ball and a half and out of nowhere it's not lining up anymore. I've frogged a few rows thinking I skipped a stitch but it keeps coming up unaligned. I counted and the number of stitches are the same. Have any helpful tips?
Uh oh, there must be a missed or added stitch somewhere, sometimes they're hard to find. Try going to the very beginning & check your counts from there (without frogging it!) Are you using the chart I made to keep track along the way?
I'm getting so frustrated. I'm going bigger cause this is for my husband..my problem is you do your 30 chains but then chain 2nd from the hook which would mean 29 sc across, at least in my brain...is this right? I've been trying to chart it on a graph like yours and it just is not coming out.
Don't give up! You're absolutely correct there will be one less stitch than chains, that is what creates the color pattern with the color count of 15 carrying into the next row. Make sure you follow the very beginning instructions to start with one stitch of color 1, then switch to color 2 & then begin always doing 15 stitches of each color. You can do this! It is my husband's favorite blanket!
Hi! Your blanket is beautiful. I thought I was following your instructions to the “T” but my blanket turned out with a solid up and down stripe of red, a stripe is alternating red snd black stitches and then a solid stipe of black if that makes sense? I’m not getting solid blocks and diagonal blocks. What am I doing wrong?
It sounds like your count was off on the first row (1 less stitch than you chained) and should have started with one stitch of one color - let's say black, then began the other color- red, & ended that row with 13 sc of the starting stitch color- black, turn, 2 sc black, 15sc red etc. The staggering of the count at the turning produces the diamonds. Good luck!
I’ve been trying this blanket for a while now and I’m stuck on a few different options. Getting the 15 single crochets after the chain is relatively simple, but what about the chain itself? How do you get the 15 single crochets of each color for the chain? Or how do you create the chain so that it matches the rest of the pattern? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks and again, great job on the video!
I'm sorry for the delay in replying, I did but somehow it didn't work. Anyway, the chain doesn't matter for the colors, just chain. Then pull the yarn until you can start with the correct color for row 1.
I use a magic ("invisible") knot. It leaves a bump but the blanket is so thick it really isn't very noticeable in the end - as opposed to weaving ends which always seem to pop out on me! I used Bella Coco's video;th-cam.com/video/15hqoR0KJHA/w-d-xo.html
You didn't have a specific starting point you just started wherever? I don't understand how the colors ever line up properly if you just start willy nilly wherever.
The chain doesn't matter but when you start the first row you pull the yarn through to begin at a color change: the first stitch of row 1 is black, then pull through to continue in red for 15 sts. I hope that helps to make it clearer, it is confusing but the graph helps.
Join in whatever manner you usually do but makw sure to keep the spacing of the colors the same (you may have to cut some from the new skein to match up) or look ahead & end your working skein early to match the new skein.
