Hi Nick - I dont imagine you have time to read comments, but im from Illinois, and at almost 60 years old now I wanted to share a special set of memories with you and anyone interested here. Though I was a mechanic for a few years and did a lot of car work myself over the years, I was never fortunate enough to be able to own one of these iconic cars, but I want to tell you about my high school years and 40+ year friend Mark who is no longer here. He owned an excellent runnning 1969 Plymouth Roadrunner that was originally dark green and someone had painted it lime green ("sublime"?) - The original engine, a 383 magnum with factory 4 speed was still in place, and it still had the original working Roadrunner horn - we were told it was built and upgraded internally by a highly respected mopar guy who raced at the track, and we believed it because it was the stoutest running 383 we had ever seen. Well, while still in high school in the mid 70's or so when my friend ended up buying that car it was the beginning of a very memorable chapter in both our lives. He and i spent many many hours both working on it to keep it in good mechanical shape and many more memorable hours listening to its awesome sounds as he ran it through the gears and constantly tried to keep the bias ply tires from going up in smoke-lol Even with a total brake system rebuild the four wheel manual drum brakes were of little use above 60 mph-lol We took many a white knuckle ride from 0 to 100 enjoying its torque and HP yet always knowing our lives were trusted to what were essentially taxi cab brakes, so most of our "playtime" was in remote areas. One of your videos I just saw recently I forget which one, really brought back the exact sounds, feel and motions of what it was like going through the 4 gears in that iconic machine. Its the closest ive been to that car and those memories with my old friend since he passed. Though the car was his, we cared for it as if it belonged to both of us, even then we knew it was a special car. One day decades later with age and Illinois road salt taking its toll, he had to face the choice of restoring it or selling it. Unable to sell it yet he put it up on stands and in storage to preserve the body and suspension. I wanted to buy it but had neither the money or proper place to store/restore and care for it due to other life issues, so one day it was sold to a Mopar lover who wanted this exact car, and he had the money to have it professionally restored which he did. Almost a year later he sent us pictures of the finished car. His body man had expertly replaced many panels & restored it back to its original dark green color and in fact the entire car was now back to original appearance right down to the factory steel wheels and plymouth baby moon type hubcaps. It was the straightest roadrunner I had ever seen, and the panel fit was exemplary, after it was done the bodyman found it hard to part with the car and he tried desparately to buy it from his customer but it was his dream car so of course he kept it. The interior was so clean it didnt even need work except for a bit of stitching on the drivers seat, even the original carpet was complete and undamaged. There are many other stories I could tell about this car and a few of the weekend street races we found ourselves in, but im proud to say we never lost a single one. Today as a car guy, its hard for me to say what I miss more, my friend or that amazing car--LOL But, in the end theyre both part of the same memories and must be thought of that way. Thank you Nick for the video that brought back this flood of memories from my youth, ill never know those years again or ride in that car again, but you have brought me back to some of the best times in my life and for that I thank you. Your channel is one of THE best on youtube for us car guys, and I wish you all the best and good health - thanks again, Mike from Illinois.
And thank you Nick for the awesome videos and for bringing back some of the best memories of my youth. Its a good thing I dont live near you as you would probably have to throw me out of your dyno room and shop on a daily basis--LOL -- Kidding of course, but seriously your vids really are candy to all car guys, and im sure medicine to the die hard mopar lovers of which im one.
I have never even sniffed at a Mopar in my life! But since I ran a across you Mr.Nick, I can now hold my own at cocktail partys, when the Mopar subject comes up during conversations! Lol! Thanks Nick!!
Awesome to see the license plate on the car! Thank you for sharing that, it was an honor to send you a set and I'm looking forward to seeing the rebuild step by step. I could never have a car that nice but it makes me happy to see some people able to rebuild them to better than factory and enjoy them. My GTO will always be a blacked out fun car and that's alright with me. Congrats Nick!
The workmanship of your bodyman is absolutely incredable. Just the panning camera indicate true panels, equal panel fitting, beautifully fabrication, (I suspect old school handiwork) and immaculate paint. I understand he many not want his business published but I hope he will have future recognition. Great vid Nick. 👍👍
Hey Nick, Magnifique! A friend of mine had that exact car in high school back in the 70s, U code 1970 Challenger 4 Speed, he had put a 484 lift cam, headers and collectors and header mufflers. Ever since the movie vanishing point whenever I see these cars of course always that memory. Thanks for sharing this gorgeous build with the rest of us it looks incredible! From your neighbor in Michigan! Have a great day
Nick, i want to say kowalski will be proud of you for resurecting his ride. Thanks for the videos, i myself am rebuiding a 99 Dodge ram 1500 4x4, has a 318 137000 mi. been sitting a few yrs. i will be watching the progress my friend.
An absolutely amazing transformation - There won't be many ( If at all) like this around. It's thanks to people like you that there are some survivors left !!
@ 9:20 the look in Nicks eyes says it all . Truly the Hemi Orange in that Alpine White engine bay is simply beautiful . At times when I get a bit depressed by the condition the world is in today I can turn on some Nicks Garage and in short order a smile comes back as my tension levels go down . I for one am glad Nick and his exceptional crew and professional camera and editing man make themselves available to us all. I'm proud of Nick and that feels good. Thanks man .
I am sooo proud for you. This time a good guy won. Anyone who works as hard as you deserves the best. That's what it will be when you get him all together. I can't wait to see it completed. It will be one of a kind. GOD bless
Absolutely awesome. Your bodyman is an artist. A 1970 Challenger body in white. Amen. The keeper looks so cool on the new stand. Glad to see all the flags are up in your shop. Very colorful. Anxious to see and hear more from the dyno room too, including the 440 Vassili was putting together.
The bodyman is obviously smart, skilled, honest, and dedicated. Just like you Nick! Great car - it will be one of the best Challengers in the world. Congrats from the West Coast.
Nick, You are a Godsend, I can't wait to see The Vanishing Point Challenger all finish and you are driving her on the road. You bring a tears in my eyes. Thank you!
Nick you have many fans in America among lots of other places and I think we all are excited about the 70 alpine white Challenger project. I was 14 years old and Vanishing Point was the first Movie I got to go see by myself. I was in heaven watching that white Challenger race across country. At that age my friends and I lived and breathe hot rods and muscle cars we read every magazine we could get our hands on and watched all the racing on tv we could.
why the pills though? why does it always have to involve recreational drug use ? And then suicide.... Spoiled the movie for me....I lost a niece, my God child, to a heroin OD. I like being clean.
It would be nice to have more mechanics like this man these days 👍 Dedication and passion .... these days most mechanics do it for the money not from the Heart Thanks Nick keep up the Hard work....
Wow! Looks fantastic. A close buddy of mine has a 1970 SE edition with the 383 burnt orange flake color with the opera window as sported on the SE only. Way back. In my church youth group one of the guys had a white 440 4 speed RT 1970. I do remember hearing that sweet engine starting up after we all went our ways back home. It was a bone stock car and later in life he became a dentist. As time went on I have lost touch with him. However, I still have my car. 1967 Camaro RS/SS 350 the first year for the Camaro and only car produced that year with the 350. I often wonder what everyone did with there cars. My close buddy still has his 1970 SE and is having the original dash board recast down in the Los Angeles area. It is not cheap adventure to restore these old cars. He has been restoring that old car for many years now and it is a beauty. He also owns a 1970 2 door New York with a 440. It is all original and really nice. As for me and my old Camaro it is still original and looks great for a 50 year old muscle car. Well kept makes the differences. Looking forward to the build as it progress towards completion.
Now Nick i just started following you and that car done right, now my Neihbor is a Car Builder with Units in the FEMA magazine as well as front page and center fold in HotRod Magazine, my point is i have seen some very nice Restorations but my friend that Body is the very best i have ever came across, to me it looked as if it was just pulled from the Factory line at the Plant.
Its so beautiful my first car was a 70 Challenger 383 /727 AT. That 1977 See this 70 Challenger in all white It so Angelic it brings a few tears to my eye's. Your a blessed man Nick. Your a God send Resurrecting 1970 Challenger From its Coma in ICU.. God bless you Nick . Peace Love and many more Blessing to you and yours. Reporting live from, The Grand Canyon State..
I’m not a dedicated MOPAR guy but I enjoy your video’s very much. Nick is a cool guy with a great shop that works on some wicked muscle cars! Thanks for posting great content and greetings from South Alabama USA.
The Kowalski Challenger looks STUNNING! Man that EW1 white looks fantastic. Love that hue of white. So very anxious to see the build progress. Great start. Keep up the good work. Cheers! from Arizona USA, and thanks for sharing.
The paint and body work on a Kowalski car is really second to none that is so impressive because I remember what it look like when the car was picked up at Thunderhead Bay wow what a talent whoever did that
I watched the whole video before commenting. I'm glad you are putting the 440 in your Kowalski dream car Nick. Keeping it original is always best. Especially with the U code matching numbers eh. The body and paint work looks SO awesome! It can go into a museum now lol! The body and paint guy should have put his signature on the body after all this IS a masterpiece! I look forward to watching you put it back together again in future episodes... Thumbs up! 👍🏻 💯% 🇨🇦Beauty EH! 😎
I grew up in Monreal and moved West in the 70's. Glad I found your videos Nick and can't wait to see the Kowalski Challenger come together. Love the technical stuff too lke watching the 440 assembly on this video. I was going to send you a Saskatchewan flag but see one hanging in the shop already.
@nicks-garage - congratulations on realizing one of your bucket list cars. I remember seeing Vanishing Point in the theater... several times. Later, I bought one of the first bootleg copies on VHS. Among the many 60's muscle I've owned: 1970 440 Sixpack 'Cuda 4-speed, 1970 440 Sixpack 'Super Bee 4-speed, 1971 440 Sixpack 'Super Bee, Air Grabber (Mr. Norm's Dodge - Govier documented), and. yes, I owned a 1971 HemiCuda convertible for about 4 years (it was my daily driver). Nick's Kowalski-mobile is fascinating. I just got what may well be the final project for me. It's a 1968 Olds 442 4-speed, convertible, fact. A/C. It needs pretty much everything this Challenger needed, so the more detail in these videos the better. Thank you for posting. I've subscribed.
WOW! All the body work you folks have done Perfectly is incredible. And that show quality paint job is beyond awesome! I can just imagine what the finished car will be like. KUDOS Dudes!
Great to see you guys fixing restoring old and new treasures! would definetely also enjoy having coffee and doughnuts juice and pies from that frenchie breakfast truck!
I'm very happy for you Nick, your the most deserving of the Mopar Gods, spring is gonna be a beautiful thing, but cruising is in the cards, and our boring NY winter just got better for me, something to look forward too, every week, that disappearing Pistol grip, was a great touch
Hey Nick ! There you go living my dream again .... maybe I should say SOME MORE !! LOL ! I'm so happy for you ! You work hard and truly deserve a beautiful car like this !! I can't wait to see how it comes out !! I already KNOW it will be BEAUTIFUL !! It's easy to tell what a great guy you are just by watching your guys do their jobs ! They are all happy and grateful for their jobs ! It really shows. I know they have EARNED the privilege to work for a MASTER !! If I were 30 years younger I'd ask you for a job. My passion has ALWAYS been MOPARS. I know a little about them but would love to learn from you !! IMPATIENTLY waiting to see the progress !! TAKE CARE !!
Now the fun part of documenting the build can begin! :) I'm very excited to see the Kowalski car come together. That paint and body man of yours did an amazing job. Look how smooth and pretty it is! I hope Nick has some time to share with us some of the individual component restorations. I'm going to be in the process of doing a lot of refurbishment of parts on my own project cars and would love to see how a master does it.
Awesome! Way better, compared to when it left the factory. On a business trip to Montreal I had no Canadian money, to pay for hospital parking. My customer said, "are you kidding, the lot attendants will hug and kiss you, nobody wants Canadian Rubles".
Beautiful Car! I've restored many GTOs over the past 35 years. My 68 verdoro green GTO convertable is my baby. I picked up a clean original 69 bonneville wagon in the mid 80s for $500. It's a factory 428 4speed car. Also verdoro green with a mix of parchment and green interior. Never been repainted or restored as its always been garage kept. Fun car to drive!
Wow just wow Nick it's looking pretty special at this time mate and can't wait to see it finished either. The painter did an awesome job too. Vasili sure nailed on on the head with that comment about meditation!
Project Kowalski looks awesome Nick!! Cant wait to see the next episode, will be great watching it all go back together. Very happy for you to finally get your dream car 👍🏼🙂
Nick, I am so happy for you and your dream car!!! I LOVE WHAT I SEE & you seem to have a little perma-grin and smile with you when talk about this particular toy! :-)
Kowalski is unbelievable. I will be checking in often to see the progress. I once heard they destroyed multiple Challengers in the filming of Vanishing Point. Nice to see one resurrected.
You have a wonderful car and it looks like it was done 100% perfect. Good luck on the assembly, I have done a few and I know the work you about to undergo. Thanks, Nick Bless you and yours.
Nick! In all my years of fooling around with these dang Mopars, I have never had the opportunity to do one totally from scratch like you are now. That Challenger shell is simply AMAZING. I think I'd just sit and look at it for a while before commencing work on it. :-) That hemi looks gorgeous in it, too. Seeing the 18 spline behind the hemi reminded me that I need one of those desperately for my own GTX - I've got a 23 spline behind my 440 right now and it needs gone - real bad. Unfortunately, I can't afford one - medical bills have taken that away, at least for now. I got my GTX sort of complete but I've gone through the whole car stem to stern in the last 6 years, replacing and repairing everything mechanical in the car, under the hood, interior... It gave me something to keep me busy while mending up from all the surgeries and such (cancer 4 times). That 4 speed is the last of it. I hope. Some day... :-) Y'all stay safe and warm up there, -Ed on the Ridge
@@robertlee9395 Thanks, Robert. I'm doing ok, just missing a few parts now. :-) Any day above dirt is a blessing. I hope things work out well for you, too. Biggest thing is to never surrender.
❤ love to see a fellow body n painter do and understand how its done right , and offc love your tubs Nick with great work on engines . Greetings from Norway
Wow, Nick, that is absolutely a beautiful Kowalski Challenger. Just great work !! I can't wait to see when she's ready and going for a test drive. Nick's Garage is just great !! Greetings from Finland !!
Very cool ,i watched vanishing point over and over, and i saw it at the drive in.my mom coverd my eyes with the lady riding the motor bike.coolest car ever, cant wait to see this done.👍
That is some dream/reality Challenger, it's absolutely a "direct connection" masterpiece!! I hope she gets nothing less than a 6-pack 440 screamer! Thanks for sharing, Nick, good luck!
I was surprised to see the Hemi in the Kowalski car! April First came early! The body looks beautiful Nick! Your friend did an awesome job! It's going to be a treat to see the Kowalski car come back to life! Next up, a Cuda for the Keeper! Maybe a convertible!
Looks beautiful this is the car that got me loving mopars I whatched that movie a thousand times yep that kowalski car got me hooked on mopars wen I was about 15 my first car was a 383 b5 blue 1970 charger I’ve had various mopars throuout the years but money and health I have no more mopar so it’s nice to look at them nicks garage is a great channel good videos keep them comming nick
Being a U code I understand the decision to go with the 440, but damn that hemi looks good in the engine bay! Beautiful work so far. Can't wait to see it complete!
I have a regular size die cast model of the Kowalski Vanishing Point Challenger still in it's original box as well as the Vanishing Point VHS video cassette that was only watched once or twice. When I find them, I will send them to you Nick. Your Kowalski Challenger is going to be a work of art. I can't imagine there being a finer one.

I look forward to watching you put it back together again in future episodes...
Thumbs up! 👍🏻 💯% 🇨🇦Beauty EH! 😎
PiratePete66 👏👏👏👏🇺🇸EH!
@@johnbeer5242 Thanks eh! ;) Nice last name! Cheers! 🍺
Thanks for watching.
Nick, your body/paint man did an awesome job! Looks great! Can’t wait for rest of build.
WOW! All the body work you folks have done Perfectly is incredible. And that show quality paint job is beyond awesome! I can just imagine what the finished car will be like. KUDOS Dudes!
Great to see you guys fixing restoring old and new treasures! would definetely also enjoy having coffee and doughnuts juice and pies from that frenchie breakfast truck!
george kosmos. Come and join us. I'am treating.
I'm very happy for you Nick, your the most deserving of the Mopar Gods, spring is gonna be a beautiful thing, but cruising is in the cards, and our boring NY winter just got better for me, something to look forward too, every week, that disappearing Pistol grip, was a great touch
Great video, the quality is awesome, music and comments. Car is absolutely gorgeous.....cannot wait to see final product.
Oh wow, you have the assembly line markings on the transmission. THAT is awesome Nick!!!!
I love how that pistol grip slowly descends through the tunnel!
Project Kowalski looks awesome Nick!! Cant wait to see the next episode, will be great watching it all go back together. Very happy for you to finally get your dream car 👍🏼🙂
The body man deserves a big thank to that work that's an amazing job u guys do it the way it should be done makes me proud to be Canadian
Nick, I am so happy for you and your dream car!!!
I LOVE WHAT I SEE & you seem to have a little perma-grin and smile with you when talk about this particular toy! :-)
Love it ,Nick! Greetings from NY and NJ here in North Wildwood.
That Alpine White is Beautiful on that car..its so smooth...👍👍
The way the light was shining in the engine compartment it looked like something Holy.. lol So happy for you Nick
Nick!
In all my years of fooling around with these dang Mopars, I have never had the opportunity to do one totally from scratch like you are now. That Challenger shell is simply AMAZING. I think I'd just sit and look at it for a while before commencing work on it. :-)
That hemi looks gorgeous in it, too.
I hope.
Some day... :-)
Y'all stay safe and warm up there,
-Ed on the Ridge
Hope you get better soon and can get back on on your car. Health issues have me way behind.
@@robertlee9395 Thanks, Robert. I'm doing ok, just missing a few parts now. :-)
Any day above dirt is a blessing.
I hope things work out well for you, too. Biggest thing is to never surrender.
