I’m laughing to the point of tears. Poor Baloo looks like unintended carnage. Then there’s this happy parade going on still around him. Such talented cast that I am truly happy to see working again. And they really are great! But its hard to look them in the eyes with the low budget dumpster fire around them

It seems..odd... that they would intentionally have Baloo land, be deflated, and rolled up all in full view of the audience, mid-show.

And all the balloon and kite mechanics in full view to the audience. No surprise that King Louis is coming out next. You can watch him being hooked up to the boat. Why didn’t they hang a tarp or scrim around that area? Where’s the magic? Where’s the surprise?
I have to agree with you on that one...I was surprised to see Baloo hit the ground.... YIKES
So not "Stage Ready".
If it wasn’t for the Disney characters, the introduction, and the video title, then one couldn’t be blamed for thinking this was a show at some knock-off, wannabe amusement park. Disney has an entire lagoon to use, but they only use a small portion at one time. I understand the amount of space required for a jet ski, but the lack of energy in the rest of the lagoon is very uncharacteristic of Disney.
This is a mess lol. Although my expectations were quite low, I tried not to be judgemental until it actually debuted, but I didn't expect to see Balou crash into the concrete seating and King Louie drown.
Just like in the movie!
That was aurguable the most exciting parts of the performance.
Well now that makes a $10,000 vacation much more exciting ! ha ha
The concept art looked a lot more… magical 😂🤭 I feel like this won’t even be there when I go in November.

As my father made many kites including complex ones, I can really appreciate this show. A show has to have a script, but these creatures require wind to perform. Wind is unpredictable, so using jet-skis is a great solution. When I saw a single man nicely controlling a kite in a tight space all my muscles started to ache - remembering that without a steady wind how hard it is to even hold it in mid-air.
I assume they spent a lot of time to figure out the aerodynamics for the animal-shaped ones. I easily spent just half a day to figure out the perfect length, shape and weight for a single tail for a simple kite.
I would recommend for everyone if they have time to try this 'childhood play' out to get a better understanding of how hard it is.
One can appreciate the difficulty and skill required to do this, while simultaneously being aghast that Disney thinks this is passable entertainment for a vacation that likely cost almost 5 figures.
That's a lot of faith in the designers/upper creatives. I've driven the watercraft in one of Disneyland's shows, and let me tell you, some of those designs had no business getting to the point of being built. The people who design a lot of their floats/watercraft didn't ever get feedback from those who would use it to adjust a design after their initial attempt because they've already made it. They throw money at it until it can kind of perform at the bare minimum and expected the cast/crew to just deal with it until it begins to cost too much to maintain.
So while the kites themselves are amazing designs, they had no business being in this type of show that depends on unreliable weather and a lot of precision and strategy on the drivers/crew in a live show.
Now I wouldn't dare guess how long the kites took to make, but give it up for the half of a lunch break it took to develop & script out this show.
It probably had a lot of work behind but it clearly didnt work. It lacks something. They could have added some small kites into Rivers of Lights and call it a day but this is just not disney material
My Wife would be absolutely livid with me if I made her sit through this.
Fortunately it won't be an issue, because there is a very minimal chance this show still exists during our next trip in June.😅

My expectations were low but not this low, like even the kites don’t want to be there 😂. I just want Rivers of Light back, or like anything with a bigger budget.

Looks like the back of the parade got lost and tried to improvise. I have much respect for the craft and the skill behind each kite. I also am very pleased to see the cast members back to working their dreams. I think another comment nailed it when they said kites "require wind to perform". I have watched a single kite flyer at the beach and been amazed. This show doesn't reach that. I don't really know if it's just the wind that is missing though.

This is one of the strangest things I've ever witnessed at a disney park... I'm so confused.
I mean, I guess this might be a fun sort of "happening in the background as I walk past to go see something better" type show!
I could see this as some sort of water-parade to amuse guests when they are out walking around. But that's really about it.
I expected this to be terrible but this so much worse than I had imagined.

I loved rivers of light...hard to create magic in the daytime with jet skis running by. Reminds me of water ski shows from the old days...but not Disney.

Want to know the truth. This was about 35 minutes from start to finish. I cut out the majority of the preshow because it was just waving crowds and the puppets interacting with other guests.
@@TheDIS I think if these were standalone kites (the big ones) that came out spontaneously during the day that it would be a cute addition. Trying to turn it into its own full show though is a bit much. P.s, I couldnt focus on anything but the slowly dieing Baloo in the background anyways. 😂

This was hilarious I cannot wait to see it when we go to disneyworld next year. It's the most entertainingly awful show I've ever seen Baloo collapsing in the background was a highlight and the cardboard cutout characters glued on sticks were brilliant. I can't believe this is an actual show, two jungle book characters, face down being dragged around a lake 😆
This actually, literally looks like something they would've used on The Imagineering Story as an example of Imagineers being forced to deliver half assed products, which supposedly was something that would never be allowed to happen again... Depressing. "Guests aren't stupid, they notice, we know that now" they said. Wow.

This is truly one of the worst things I have ever seen in my life. It looks like something your local county fair would put together.
Honestly I don’t know why they don’t do a show like world of color at animal kingdom. Call it colors of the wind, could even have a bunch of Disney IP related to nature, and no fireworks so it won’t scare animals. It is the best space for this imo

The irony is when Animal Kingdom first opened there actually was a Jungle Book show in that same area. To later become Tarzan Rocks.

This is even worse than the new fireworks show at MK. Disney is completely devoid of creativity at this point.
I love how they warn for your safety to clear the walkway and the kites land In the stands
They need to do something similar to California Adventure's World of Color in this space.
It's cool but if it's going to be an amphitheater show, why not include more elements? Boat floats, water ski performers, just more stuff?

Is it just me or does this remind me of the “color guard” in high school during Friday night football games? It’s like they combined Macy’s Day Parade on boats with high school Color Guard. Do better Disney… do better.

Reminds me of an elementary school production where the kids make paper objects and run around the stage. The audience feels sympathetic and wishes it was over quickly! Show should be called KITEstrophe:.

🤦 Ever since this show was first announced I never expected much from it, but that really did fail to live up to what was anticipated. If this is the best that imagineering can come up with it says a lot about the current running of the parks. Kudos to the cast members for trying to inject some energy into the performance, but seriously Disney it’s back to the drawing board again on this one 👎
Live shows and entertainment is technically a different department from Imagineering, but I get your sentiment. With amazing shows and parades that we've had in the past, and it's the 50th celebration, this is a let down.

Wow. I love kites. This show was so sad. I mean really, how did this get the green light?
I'm trying to figure out why they even called it Kite Tails. I expected a large scale show with lots of kites and people working those kites into configurations, etc. Dragging 'kites' behind a jet ski is not what I would consider kite flying. And 'balloons' aren't kites either. And those things are sticks being danced around - I don't know what they are. As far as needing wind, I'm sure Disney could have put a few more bucks into this show and put in wind machines so they could have a genuine kite flying extravaganza. They could have done something wonderful with this if they'd put more thought, imagination and dollars into it.

I think this would be a lot cooler of a concept if it was a street show or parade that you didn't have to sit down to watch, but if you're stuck sitting in a concrete stadium in the Florida sun there better be some hook or story that justifies being presented like a theater show. The idea of doing a show like this kind of reminds me of the Epcot parade they used to have in World Showcase (Tapestry of Nations), except this looks cheaper, has a worse story and theme, and the audience is more firmly anchored in place with no interactivity. What a waste

If anyone from WDW is listening... what in the world are you thinking. This seems like a show you'd see at a low budget amusement park. Harmonious should be at AK in this space.

They didn't need the jet skis. The performers could have just walked the puppets around the viewing area and it would have been a cute moment.
My 2 year old would probably love this? The puppetry is fun and would be a good addition to a parade but the actual water show is a bit sad.
Yeah you're right put this in a parade with some large designed imaginative floats.
