  • Andrea Botez and Alexandra Botez, the Botez Sisters, are TH-cam and Twitch’s chess queens, and they’re also signed to OpTic Gaming, compete in poker tournaments, and even chessboxing. Chess used to be boring, but thanks to their hilarious content, sibling rivalry, and the Botez Gambit, the Botez Sisters have made this ancient game cool and compete against GM Hikaru and GothamChess at the top of the streaming rankings.

    I think it was the queens gambit and Gotham chess that really got chess going, I love them but they didn't make chess popular.

      It was, as painful as it is to say, XQC,Hikaru and Queens gambit that really got chess going. Levy benefited from the ball rolling rather than got it rolling.

      @@thebiglebrowski3695 yes but levy followed the train and kinda got chess a bit more popular but not as good as xqc and others

      @EXOTICNICK I can agree with that :) if I had to summarise it.
      XQC got the ball rolling and got young people interested.
      Hikaru helped him and helped get other streamers interested.
      Naroditsky, Botez, Moistcritikal, chessbrah etc really started helping the ball roll
      Queens gambit got non-gamers/slightly older people interested
      Gotham educated those who stuck around and kept the ball rolling

    Very far stretch.
    Role of importance is probably
    -> queens gambit
    -> Gotham
    -> Magnus
    -> Hikaru
    -> Botez sisters

    If your definition of cool is screaming, boxing and making funny faces, and boring is all of the thought, effort and sophistication required to play and understand the game of chess, then I think we're done here - it's childish bullshit.
