At first, after seeing the anime, I thought Yui would just be another generic heroine. But after reading the LN, I was able to see the real beauty of Yui. Her character development is so amazing. From a person who acts like an airhead and someone who doesn't want to be left out by her "so-called, friends" to a person who will sacrifice her own feelings just to maintain the "genuine friendship/relationship" that she has with Yukinon and Hachiman. Yukinon and Hachiman even implied that Yui is the one who truly supports both of them. In one of the latest volumes, Yui even told Hachiman that "if he will choose someone, he should choose Yukinon". That's why it broke my heart when Yui cried when she saw that Hachiman has chosen to "help" Yukinon and left her. But still, unlike heroines in other stories, Yui didn't stop Hachiman from going. She just silently cried. Moreover, Yui might not be as smart as the other two but she is wise. This is why I'm really excited for this story and its final volume. This is not another generic romantic story. It is more realistic. Even though Hachiman chose to help Yukinon, it didn't say anything about him having romantic feelings for Yukinon. He just said that he was fulfilling his promise with her. To help her. In the latest volume, after helping Yukinon, she said that it's time for Hachiman to fulfill what Yui "really wishes" for. Hachiman said, that he will fulfill it with a reassuring voice. So yeah, you really won't know how this story will end. This shows how amazing the story is.

You don't simply get a genuine relationship because the person is "genuine". No. You turn that crack relationship from zero to genuine. Along the way, developing the character of each other. Now why not Yukino? Simple. Both of them are too similar. That is good. Too good. In fact, both being calculating and ruthless, they would cancel each other out. Their softer sides only present a weak spot in a relationship of two broken individuals. When you combine two broken things, chances are, it does not form anything whole. It just creates a pile of trash. We'll see. Though I am very open to both outcomes. However, my cents go to Yui on this one.

As an American viewer of these vids and the anime I did not know the significance of the honorifics in calling someone by their name, either first or last, so when I finally looked up how the social order works in terms of what honorific to use in what relationship really opened my eyes to how important and adorable it is that they call each other by their first names in the end.

I relate to her on such a personal level: Yui has a bright and cheerful persona that hides her deepest desires, because she knows that If she tries to act a little selfish and seek what she really wants, that could affect not only her relationship with her friends, but their relationship as well. That makes the conclusion of Vol. 14 hurt so much, knowing that in the end, Yui made a selfless decision and was hurt because of it. When Season 3 finally arrives, I will likely rewatch this video to heal my soon-to-be broken heart. #teamYui
