    Man, the CD soundtrack gives it the 80's action movie feel that the gameplay goes for.

    Also, Haggar "is" Jesse Ventura and the Andores are modelled after the wrestler Andre the Giant. These pop culture references add to this game's greatness.

      My bro did a prank call at a telephone box down the road to someone called 'Mr Hagger'! Said exactly what he says on this version. Hilarious- we couldn't stop laughing. Aah, the days of 10p phone calls and no tracking no cell phones AND you would even get a phone book in there!.....those were the days....

      +steve klarke I'm personally partial to "Mighty Final Fight" on NES, because it had great music, graphics, and they really added some great "level up" mechanics similar to Double Dragon. Though you're right, this is absolutely the best port of the arcade game (though it seems like it has some extra content).
      The SNES port is actually really good also, Capcom was just lazy and omitted 2 player, for no good reason at all.

    • @MsSteveman
      @MsSteveman 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +poopmaster13 well mighty final fight is kinda a new diff game but still cool i agree, and they got ALOT lazier on the SNES port of final fight then that not only omiting 2 player but also having only 2 characters to chose from and an entire level was removed in the SNES version so theres alot to hate about the snes version sadly but it still had great music graphics and gameplay :) OH final fight 2 and 3 were fantic on SNES though

      @andrewortiz5797 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@freakyfornash the SNES versions of Arcade games were always closer to the arcade versions than Genesis versions. For example street fighter 2 was closer to the arcade than Genesis and had music closer to the arcade. Mortal Kombat on the SNES was closer to the arcade graphic wise and sound wide minus the blood or fatalities. Final fight on SNES was closer to the arcade minus a character. "Wow just like the Arcade"... I miss that catch phrase!

    I never actually had this game, but seeing it still makes me nostalgic, because I can remember how when the Sega CD was first announced, I was dreaming of getting it one day and was reading an article about it in my favorite video game magazine over and over, looking at the pictures of the cool new games that were announced for the system, long before it ever came to Europe, where I lived. One of those games the article wrote about was this one.
    I was nothing less than obsessed with the Sega CD and it felt as if I had to wait a thousand years from the day the Japanese version came out, till they finally brought it to Europe. I was worse than the little kid from that famous Christmas movie, who wants to have that air rifle and can hardly think of anything else, hehehe.
    Sometimes I wish I could still get even half as enthusiastic about anything as I was back then.

    I still wonder to this day why the Mega/Sega CD never the commercial success it deserved to be. You had an additional 12Mhz 68000 CPU and a custom ASIC chip for sprite scaling and rotation (something that was planned for the Mega Drive itself but was cut for cost reasons) plus a cutsom PCM sound chip. I often wondered what games like Out Run and Power Drift would have looked like on the machine. The only drawback I can think of, was the Sega CD didn't increase the number of available on screen colours the Mega Drive offered.

  • @AlestesStar
    @AlestesStar 10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I agree that this port certainly isn't arcade perfect but it's probably the closest out of the lot of them and it is a really good game. I like the music in the game, they seem to have deliberately gone for a seedy/cheesy 80's action film feel and it suits the feel of the play well and works, albeit as a one off gimmick and besides holding all the sprite data I guess they had to make use of the CD format in other ways too. I think however, the game would have done better if it had just been a standard Megadrive game on a big 16-Meg cartridge and come out a year or two earlier with music using the standard Megadrive sound chips and sans the atrocious voice acting!

      There's no way the Genesis could have possibly done Final Fight it's near full justice like the Sega CD version did though. Not sure it would have been any better than the badly butchered Super N.E.S. port either for that matter.

    • @colonelsandwich641
      @colonelsandwich641 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The SNES port was only butchered because it was on an eight-megabit ROM, and Capcom was new to the SNES's hardware. Had they been given a larger cartridge space and more experience (and possibly more time) it could've turned out pretty close to the arcade game.
      I'm also sure that a stock Genesis could run Final Fight just fine. Just look at Streets of Rage 2, it has huge sprites and several enemies on screen. Of course the music wouldn't be as good as the CD version, but that's to be expected.

    love the music on the bay area stage! graphics are nice and very sharp with 2 player option and i see NO slowdown. easily one of the best home ports of an arcade game ever. it has the only upgrade that actually worked well - the music. many times, the music upgrade is bad like the ninja gaiden NES series on the snes trilogy cart, or mega man series from NES put onto the genesis/mega drive (wily wars cart). both of those games ruined the music. this enhances it.

    I will never forget on Christmas morning back when I was a kid I woke up and Santa Claus brought me a Sega CD with this version of final fight this is probably the best version of the game the audio was tremendous the graphics were tremendous and it had voiceovers I remember that narrator at the beginning of the game classic! I still have this version of the game I know it's somewhere in my closet I wish they would make some type of retro clone consul that will run Sega CD Disk bass games so I can play it lol

    • @freakyfornash
      @freakyfornash 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Me too, when "Santa" got me this game, along with a Sega CD for Christmas in 95, and was the sole reason why I even wanted that otherwise mediocre console in the first place. This was when Final Fight truly came home, not counting the badly butchered Super NES port, which was a horrible injustice to the game.

    It lacks in overall colour palette compared to the original one and, of course, is always a "translation" from the original CPS1 coin op hardware. The soundtrack is amazing, I wish the PS3 version had this one instead of the simple electronic remix. This one is instrumental, too damn good ;)

    • @dennys82
      @dennys82 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's just a comment on the technical point of view, why dumb? Mega CD is the best version on the soundtrack but not on graphic (same palette of Amiga 500 by the way). Matter of fact.

    • @dennys82
      @dennys82 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you compare the original graphic the best version is the coin op (which has is own structural limits anyway). Obviously! :/

    • @dennys82
      @dennys82 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      And I compared two home systems...

    • @dennys82
      @dennys82 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's why I mentioned an ideal "melt" between those two home systems, MCD and PS3. PS3 actually have a remastered soundtrack but is not orchestrated like this one, this one is amazing.

    • @dennys82
      @dennys82 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      *****
      About the graphic: I think is also a long gap between two types of programming that makes the MegaCD version animperfect translation, interpretation. Probably at those times the gap was too huge between the two machines. If you watch closer, this version is totally different in the way the sprites moves (falling, been hit) making the overall playability slightly different from the coin-op. I'm sure about that cause when I was 8, I spent a fortune on the coin-op lol :D

    I disagree with both of your comments. The music in the first level perfectly depicts the fight that lies ahead, while the later levels are more "cheerful" as the victory comes nearer. Besides, if you watched action movies in the 80's and early 90's, the soundtracks featured similarly "ironic" tunes.

    I keep hearing how this conversion is arcade perfect but there are a lot of sound effects missing and the colors are not that great either, even compared to the Amiga version.

    • @SamaSaku1
      @SamaSaku1 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ghost81 To compare Final Fight CD to the crappy 16 colors Amiga one ... wow. Final Fight CD can't be Arcade Perfect because CPS1 has more colors than the MD, except of that it's an excellent conversion.

    • @trip2themoon
      @trip2themoon 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +SamaSaku1 Amiga Final Final is one of the worst arcade conversions I've ever played. A strange thing about Amiga fans is that they seem to prefer style over substance: Amiga version has more colours therefor the Amiga version is better. Daft logic.

    • @SamaSaku1
      @SamaSaku1 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +trip2themoon Actually the amiga version has less colours than the Mega Cd version ... it's the same version has on Atari ST and Atari ST could display only 16 colours on screen.

    • @Ghost_Of_SAS
      @Ghost_Of_SAS 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      SamaSaku1 I remembered the Amiga version being better, to be honest: I must have substituted memories of the arcade original and though it was Amiga. It does look pretty crap.

    • @trip2themoon
      @trip2themoon 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +SamaSaku1 More colours does not make a better game. I loved my Amiga, I still have my A1200 but Final Fight was a horrendous conversion. Thank God I only paid £3 for a pirate from The Barras market in Glasgow.
