Very impressive. There are a lot of videos of people turning piece but not many that take the time to thin out and hollow there vases and bowls instead of leaving them really thick or just enough for a glass insert. Great work.
Beautiful piece of cedar highlighted by masterful work. One of my favorite woods to turn both because of the smell, the contrasting colors, and having sapwood interlaced into the heartwood giving it even more character. Wish we could share pictures on here so I could show the case I made with it still attached to the log it cane from. Much like you displayed the piece at the end only burnt to highlight the imperfections and add character. Another of my favorite cedar to turn is Sugi. Think I love the smell of it even more, along with it's more earthy coloring. If you havent turned any of it you should give it a try. You will love it 👍keep up the good work! 👏👏👏
Thank you for your comment! It is a kind of cedar family Juniperus chinensis. It is harder than cedar and has good workability. In addition, it is my favorite because it is redder than cedar and has unique annual rings. However, I haven't dealt with Sugi so much, so I will try it in the future. Greetings from Japan.🙇🇯🇵
I really respect that you don’t automatically fill your vessels with sparkly resin. You let the wood show it’s striking character. The irregularities remind us all that while the object may be shaped like a vase, it’s really about celebrating the wood. 💕♥️💕
@@YamabikoWoodArt Your eye & skill are always a thrill for me. I much prefer your vision to those that try to turn beautiful wood into sparkly bowling balls. 💕♥️💕
This wood is gorgeous. I think this one needed resin though, to fill the big hole. I don't think every piece needs resin, even if it has holes, but the hole in this one wasn't particularly nice, so I don't think it adds anything to the piece, but filling it with resin would look amazing. I also prefer pieces polished up more, because I think it makes the wood look much nicer, and brings the colour out even more. That's just my preference, plus I like watching it be polished to a nice shine... 👍
Thank you for your feedback! For future works, we are considering using a resin, but we did not have a vacuum device, so this was the finish. I want to study more about sanding too!

Thank You for Your hard work and pure content. I only wish if You Might consider steer clear of the allure of resin casting. Yours is one of the very few woodworking channels left that hasn't succumbed to that visual and ecological pestilence and for that I am extremely grateful. Pardon me for speaking my mind on the issue. Similarly to most of western takes on raku pottery, resin in wood strikes me as unattractive to the point of vulgarity and mainly done for the sake of novelty. High level craftsmanship draws imagination from timeless repetition in dialogue with pure material. By introducing wanton alien elements we risk losing concentration and thus the ultimate aim of eliminating borders between self and the world through constant betterment. Just look at masters such as Ernst Gamperl or Pascal Oudet. Thank You again, though, Your work brings me great joy.
Thank you very much!! I'm happy to hear that!! I decided to keep this piece as it is. Consider using resin when strength cannot be maintained or when it helps processing.
It is definitely a very nice vase. Eastern Red Cedar (Juniperus Virginiana), or aromatic Red Cedar is a tree which grows essentially in the US...this looks more like like Chinese or Tibetan Juniper...they all belong to the Juniper family, and share similar colors (sometimes reddish-pink and sometimes more orangish.
