Thank you! I was wanting to use 2nd gen donor squirters for 1st gen. Even though it looks the same outside, they are quite different underneath the chrome plated plastic cover. Great detail in your video! Cheers mate from across the river.
Thank you, I actually need to replace R53 of the head light (L) of my beloved, she was crying because accidentally hit the deer at night, now I know how to follow your step... thank you
@@tweedbean Do you have any videos showing you prepping and respraying your chrome headlight surrounds? Would love to see this done properly, so that it lasts and doesn't peel after a few months.
@@blowfishes hi however much that’s a great idea for a video, I’m not a paint expert so wouldnt want to advise as it can go wrong easily. My Bodyshop did all the prep and paint on the r53
Thanks for watching, I've had a number of requests for this however I dont have a spare set of lights, if I take mine apart again, I will make sure I record it
Thank you! What I really want to do is to replace the foggy headlight lenses - I would think that would be needed much more often than replacing the trim rings! I'm looking around the 9 minute mark, and it's not clear but I'm guessing they can be either snapped or screwed off and replaced, am I right?
People tend to remove the headlight rings to colour code or paint black rather than replace. If you are referring to the headlight lens. They are glued on, check out my r56 joey mod video as the r53 ones are held on in a similar manor: How To: Mini R56 How to joey mod your R56 Headlights also clubman coupe roadster Cooper S JCW One th-cam.com/video/44uTPphABoA/w-d-xo.html
Hi thanks for watching. Firstly check the plastic covers on the back where you change the bulbs are on properly as they have rubber seals. If they are ok you can spilt the lights and reseal them, that’s how people joey mod them.
Hi use a hair dry to heat around the edge of the lens to loosen the glue. There are a couple of metal clips from memory near where the headlight washer attaches that you need to remove, they should pop straight of with a flat headed screw driver behind them. also helps to leave in the sun or store in the airing cupboard before hand. Hi, do you have any idea how i go about replacing my mini cooper r50 front fog light trim rings? My drivers sides' silver trim casing for bottom fog lamp has mysteriously gone missing (stolen maybe? as i cant see how it has just fell off?), so before i buy a replacement , i just want to know if its a simple job or not? Thanks!
Sorry to hear that, Unfortunately that’s due to a poor design by mini not the process you followed. Hence they changed the design for future models, they weren’t designed to be removed because at that point they didn’t plan on offering none chrome versions like they did with other generations so they weren’t design to be removed easily. Unfortunately these cars are coming up to 21 years old in some cases so the plastics are brittle and some do break, I know that doesn’t help you
Yes!!!! I've been waiting ages for this video. I've got some chrome rings to wrap. Cheers mate.
No problem, good luck with the wrapping
The only clear and thorough video I've found! thank you!

A timely discovery, this video. I have to polish the one headlight lens, and need to get the chrome rings off to keep them in good shape....

Hi. Is the rest of the headlight unit sealed? I have a lot of condensation on mine!

@@tweedbean Great thanks for the heads up.
Do you have any tips for removing the whole lens of the headlight ?
Do you mean the clear lens so you can paint the inside chrome parts?
@@tweedbean Yeah those

can you do a grill removal video?
I will take a look this weekend, cant see why not
Is it really necessary to take the whole light assembly out just to remove the rings or can I do it while they are still attached to the car?
You can but you can’t see where the clips are so run the risk of breaking things.
Thanks!!
No problem!
thnx!
No problem! Thanks for watching
Skip to 5;54 minutes to see how to do it
Thanks for the tip
