    I live in Thunder Bay and did my first crown land camp at Onion Lake Road. Love it there.

    Great stuff lad, reminds me of when I first started solo treks on crown land. Drive down the road to Pembroke some time and I'll take you oooot and aboooot in the Valley, eh.

      Four seasons angling cool! I need to post up more regularly, been a bit lazy with it. I’ve been loving the wild ice this winter! Was just out at Silver Harbour yesterday and today and you can skate way out. Unbelievable.

    Lol.. strap on a 45lbs pack hike 10km spend the day fishing and setting up camp plus all the fresh air and when it gets dark you are too tired to care if a bear eats you...😅

      That’s a great idea 😂 but seriously that’s a great point, my best sleeps have always been after long physical day adventure trips!

    Awesome for you to do this camp even though anxious about it, good on ya! I do a lot of day boating and hiking on Crownland but haven't yet did a solo overnighter, am working up to it though. I don't fear animals but more so people, may try maybe a winter camp or an island camp my first time. I very much enjoy Justin and Saku's travels as well, they are an inspiration! You had a great learning experience, keep going and gaining more knowledge and confidence! Thanks for sharing. :)

      Thanks Jacqueline! Yes as anxious as the dark still makes me I plan to keep pushing on. Hopefully when I have a better understanding of wildlife behaviour I’ll be more relaxed! I agree - Justin and Saku are incredibly inspirational and I’ve already learned so much from watching his adventures!

      @@livefree.roamwild.8723 I am not sure if you carry bear spray but it a great deterrent for any type of critter that may get it in it's mind to bother you. I carry it always in wilderness areas. I also have a small marine air horn that I take hiking at times as well. It is a loud novel sound that I am hoping will scare most animals off. I thought about a bear banger but feel they sound too much like a rifle and while that should scare wildlife, some might be used to it because of hunting season. Keep food away from camp and try not to cook at it either. In my experience, wildlife don't want to have anything to do with you. I think they would only be attracted if food in their natural environment was scarce and they were really hungry. :)

    Stainless steel or cast iron on fire’s. But you survived. Aluminum it’s not good on fire. I would cook on heated rock

    Always sleep with a bear spray can in your hand with your fingers through the hoop duct taped or rubber banded to you. Safety on so you don't set it off at night by accident. Also sleep with the headlamp ready to go. Predatory bears do exist

    Seeing a road there and guess it is accessible with a 4X4 vehicle?

    • @livefree.roamwild.8723
      @livefree.roamwild.8723  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The road goes pretty far in and honestly I probably could've made it with my car. At one point the road ends and there's a little atv trail I followed until I cut into the bush.

    My Cottage is in Bancroft. What your doing is very dangerous my friend. Here's a tip if all the mosquitoes suddenly disappear it's typically because a larger animal is nearby.

    • @bobabooey4537
      @bobabooey4537 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Totally false.... unless he happens to be on crown land that is also part of a bear sanctuary, which its not. Nothing 'very dangerous' about this adventure.

    • @samkostos4520
      @samkostos4520 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bobabooey4537 ok, clearly you have never been to Bancroft. Bancroft isn't anything like the city. It's east of Algonquin Park which does happen to be a bear sanctuary and if you think they don't migrate east you're nuts. It's cottage country. Bears frequently come and are drawn to the fishing and bbqs. Wolves stalk the western section of my property line. There are bear dens and visible signs of large animals which are never hard to find. Trust me when I say if you were injured and dozed off you would almost certainly be attacked.
