The Three Bells of Sapperton, Gloucestershire

Another video from the 8th August 2014 - I've been sitting on a goldmine!
Sapperton is a tiny village, located near Cirencester, in the rolling Cotswolds. The church has the unusual dedication of St Kenelm (an Anglo-Saxon saint, and - legend goes - boy king and martyr, murdered by a relative, even after a prophetic dream warning him of the danger). This beautiful building, with some fine ornate memorials, is in the care of The Churches Conservation Trust.
The three bells here are listed as unringable, although most the fittings - at a glance - looked in pretty reasonable nick. The treble and second date from the 1300s; the tenor was cast by Abraham Rudhall of Gloucester in 1698. They sound excellent for their age; the tenor is a particularly fine bell. The frame is a substantial oak construction from John Warner & Sons of Cripplegate from c1899; I presume that it was at this point the bells had their canons removed. The bells are tuned as the front 3 of a 4.

I reckon they'd go too - lack of ropes was the main problem we had. I'd certainly be keen!

@@sdgwebb Maybe when the Covid restrictions have been lifted you could actually test out whether they were ringable, ay least for rounds, with a couple of brave friends.

Tenor stay would need to come off or get shortened .. that's a brave chap ringing that...
